The Harris-Rahimi show is just bad.  Was driving last two days and it’s just not a good listen.

It’s very disjointed.  Her entire schtick is to tell people that she already talked about something happening.  Harris is very mid.  I love Grote, always have because he is just a funny guy to me, but he was thrown into the mix to save it and it’s not happening.   Tough to see this show continuing through another year, I can’t imagine their numbers are good

Marshall Harris has been great at calling high school playoff games, but he’s an absolute dud on the radio.  It’s also painful to listen to Rahimi try so hard to act like “just one of the guys” and fake laugh at everything, including their dirty jokes.  I don’t even like ESPN 1000 much but The Score is an immediate station changer these days.

By the way, it looks like Shane Riordan finally got a gig as Executive Producer of the Michelle Beadle and Cody Decker podcast.  They aren’t even on a radio station after previously getting booted from SiriusXM for complaining about their time slot being replaced by Stephen A. Smith.

I know what people will say here but I stopped listening to the Score during their show and really only listen to Mully and Haugh. Bernstein and Abbatacola’s podcasts gives me the sports insights that I need in the way I want to consume sports commentary. Harris and Rahimi lacks a driver and a certain style expected on the Score.

Mully and Haugh are still good.  I just wish they were on later than the early morning slot.  Harris and Rahimi have to be the worst sports talk on the radio and I can’t believe they can’t figure out a better duo.

The ESPN 1000 is solid nothing has ever really stood out.

The SCORE is much better at providing content that is informative.  ESPN is more conversational chat that doesn't do much for me.  Harris and Rahimi are both sidekicks neither can lead a show.

I always thought Jurko and Bernstein would be an interesting grouping similar to Boers and Bernstein

I have a hard time listening to Bernstein because it’s not really live.  I still will check it out here and there, but I still listen to the score because of the updates and breaking news

When I used to read Boers’ column in the Sun Times, I didn’t like him - mostly because he always ripped the teams I liked (Bears, Bulls, Sox, ND). He was especially hard on ND and Lou Holtz when they were good in the late 80s/early 90s. I eventually felt that he was correct, and though I’m still fond of those ND teams, his assessment of Lou Holtz was spot on IMO.

After college, I had a job that allowed me to listen to the radio all day. I’d start with Stern and Brandmeier, then North and Jiggets, then Heavy Fuel Cruel until the Score signed off. Made my days fly by.

HFC embraced “Who You Crappin?” and made it a sometimes hilarious segment rather than the hosts being embarrassed that Ditka essentially called Boers out for flip flopping on Ditka showing emotions on the sidelines. The ability to give and take criticism was what made the early Score great. I felt like Boers & Bernstein didn’t have the same ability to take criticism, so I stopped listening and moved the ESPN with McNeil. But I always remained a Boers fan.

Now, I rarely listen to sports talk radio.

I feel like when someone passes, so does a part of me. It’s been 30ish years since I listened to him regularly, but I’m forever fond and grateful to Boers for the countless hours he entertained me in print and radio. RIP.

Edited to add that I saw one of the commenters on twitter say all these years later he thinks he remembers the theme song word for word. I’ll give it a try:

“We’re happy for ya

we speak our mind

we won’t ignore ya

or what you find

you call up

with acumen

we’ll be here waiting

looking for a friend

the afternoon guys

here on the score

the afternoon guys

McNeil and Boers”
