September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) No real definition, I just didn't want the thread to be people arguing about what is a "star" and what is not. I wasn't arguing for the record, just putting my reason across really. Good calls on Graff and Wunsch by whoever brought those up. Loved both of those guys. And as Tex said, Graff made me love him even more after game 2 of the ALDS in 05.
September 25, 201312 yr Stars or not, I always gravitate towards the catchers. It was "my" position, and it doesn't matter if it's Fisk or some rookie that may only play a season or two, I always like 'em.
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) Lyle Mouton! Ron Karkovice! Matt Thornton! You would say that.
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) Wait a second...Willie Davis??? You mean Willie Harris? Mr. MLB fan cave better blame this on auto correct lol *hides under rock* haha, yeah I definitely meant Harris. No clue why I put Davis.
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 03:14 PM) You would say that. It's only appropriate that his name got me a consolation game finish.
September 25, 201312 yr One more I just thought of: Scott Radinsky, because he was the first South Bend White Sox (now SilverHawks) player to make it to the majors.
September 25, 201312 yr I always liked Scott Fletcher and Jose Valentin. Ron Hansen and Pete Ward too
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) I liked Serigo Santos a lot when he was closer Good call. Remember that behind the scenes video of the brass telling him he made the team? Beautiful moment.
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 03:44 PM) It's only appropriate that his name got me a consolation game finish. You would have won it all if you didn't lose the last game of the season. You would have outscored your first round opponent and then me in the finals.
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) Gary Redus was a guy I really WANTED to like. He had insane speed, I remember seeing him do something I've only seen him and Rickey Henderson do - steal 2nd while the pitcher was holding the ball. He also had some power. But he just couldn't get on base enough - wild, hacky swings. Gary Redus A Bedtime Story Claudell Washington Shawn 'Lil Abner Matt Merullo Scott Radinsky Wayne Edwards (because he was part of Stick Figure with McDowell) Wayne Hagin/John Rooney Dave Wills Eddie Williams Ivan Calderon McKay Christensen (don't believe the hype!) Brian Simmons Chris Singleton
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) Ivan Calderon, Dave Gallagher and SALOME BAROJAS!!!!!! You just jinxed Dave Gallagher. He's not dead yet, is he? Or maybe I was thinking of Joe DeSa or one of the other relievers of that time period, Ernesto Escarrega or something was his name?
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) Chris Singleton There's another one for me. He was my favorite player on the Sox when I first got into baseball.
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) He was a huge help during game 2 in 2005! I remember feeling pretty bad for him though, like "Why him?!".
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) I always liked Scott Fletcher and Jose Valentin. Ron Hansen and Pete Ward too I remember some years ago I worked with a guy around my age who grew up within blocks of Comiskey Park and used to play fast pitch against the outside wall of the ballpark. He said Pete Ward would often talk to the kids and even play with them (please don't think anything perverted). He was a real nice guy. Good call on whoever mentioned Salome Barojas and Kelly Wunsch, two I forgot to mention.
September 25, 201312 yr One of my favorite players I remember cheering for and liking as a kid was Danny Tartabull. He only played the 1 year, but I just loved him.
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 04:07 PM) Was/Is One Dawg considered a star? I'd put him on the board. I wouldn't put him in the star category. Likewise with Carlos May, kinda borderline and an old favorite of mine.
September 25, 201312 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 04:43 PM) You just jinxed Dave Gallagher. He's not dead yet, is he? Or maybe I was thinking of Joe DeSa or one of the other relievers of that time period, Ernesto Escarrega or something was his name? I don't think Gallagher is dead he was a young outfielder in the late 80's and had a hitting aid called the Stride right or something like that. According to wiki he is alive and living in Trenton NJ. Edited September 25, 201312 yr by ptatc
