January 17, 201412 yr I'll still be shocked if the Yankees don't get him. It just makes too much sense for them. As far as the bad meeting -- Cashman is the longest tenured GM in baseball and I doubt he's the type to show up completely unprepared. But who knows
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) The White Sox can sell the success of Iguchi and Mr Zero. Speaking of Iguchi, he's still playing in Japan.
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 10:59 AM) Sure he does, he did the same thing with Peavy. Swung and missed on the first attempt to trade for him, and told the press "we will revisit this later", and then got him a few months later I don't see how that's "the same thing."
January 17, 201412 yr I know the Mariners have Japanese ownership and have wooed Japanese players in the past, but if I had to bet about being unprepared, my money is on Jack Z.
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) I know the Mariners have Japanese ownership and have wooed Japanese players in the past, but if I had to bet about being unprepared, my money is on Jack Z. I agree here. Seems he's fired most of the people that were there for his other big signings, too.
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) I don't see how that's "the same thing." He openly talked about trying to acquire a player. You just said that he never talks to the press about trying to acquire a player, so it must be a smoke screen
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (almagest @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) Speaking of Iguchi, he's still playing in Japan. And playing well too. He had a .297/.390/.511 slash with 23 HRs and 83 RBIs last year.
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) That's incredibly unfunny. Aww shucks.
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) And playing well too. He had a .297/.390/.511 slash with 23 HRs and 83 RBIs last year. And he made that Jose Iglesias play last year before it was cool.
January 17, 201412 yr Jesse Sanchez @JesseSanchezMLB Source tells me clubs have not heard back from Tanaka & nobody knows where they stand. Most had about 60 mins to make a case. No visits. https://twitter.com/JesseSanchezMLB/status/...225081196171265
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (Downtown518 @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) Jesse Sanchez @JesseSanchezMLB Source tells me clubs have not heard back from Tanaka & nobody knows where they stand. Most had about 60 mins to make a case. No visits. https://twitter.com/JesseSanchezMLB/status/...225081196171265 Now this makes all of the other rumors laughable. If no one really knows where they stand, it means that all of these writers who have been deciding leaders for Tanaka have just been making s*** up.
No visits. https://twitter.com/JesseSanchezMLB/status/...225081196171265 This, combined with the tweet about a team bombing and KW's statement, is making me feel that it might not actually be just about money. This gets more and more intriguing as it goes.
No visits. https://twitter.com/JesseSanchezMLB/status/...225081196171265 This pretty much echoes the sentiments of Hahn in his statement to the media after he met them. It also coincides with what his agent said when he said it would be confidential and negotiations kept from team to team. If anything all this scuttlebutt shows the teams that have been putting this out are nervous. Maybe that's why you have seen report after report of a team willing to throw top dollar at him. It could really be its not about the money and teams like NY La and CHC may be throwing that out there to drive up Prices. I don't know what to think anymore, but I agree this is intriguing to say the least. I also would count the Cubs out if something isnt announced this weekend at Cubs fest. January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) How long will this go on? Another week? 24th is the deadline.
January 17, 201412 yr Ken Davidoff @KenDavidoff 31m The #Cubs and #WhiteSox are both serious contenders for Masahiro Tanaka. #Yankees #Dodgers http://bit.ly/1i69tAF
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) How long will this go on? Another week? It's over next Friday the 24th at 4pm eastern. If he hasn't signed he goes back to Japan till next year and they do it over. His personal assistant said they don't expect it to go to the last minute.
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 11:18 AM) This sounds more credible than anything else I've heard. Yeah, that's about the one thing I really do believe. Honestly, I like the Sox chances more and more as this thing goes on.
January 17, 201412 yr I'm waiting for Chris Broussard to confirm the teams in play for Tanaka through his multiple sources..
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) Ken Davidoff @KenDavidoff 31m The #Cubs and #WhiteSox are both serious contenders for Masahiro Tanaka. #Yankees #Dodgers http://bit.ly/1i69tAF Love we are hearing more and more Chicago. I would hope its cause he is warming to making this his home. And it will come down to $ over a more imediate chance of winning between the 2 CHI teams Edited January 17, 201412 yr by Frank_Thomas35
January 17, 201412 yr One of the things that makes this fun is that the Cubs, Mariners, and Yankees are all under various amounts of pressure to make this move. Tanaka's lack of communication/fickleness HAS to be driving them insane. The WS, on the other hand, don't NEED him at all, and are almost certainly much more comfortable being patient.
January 17, 201412 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) Ken Davidoff @KenDavidoff 31m The #Cubs and #WhiteSox are both serious contenders for Masahiro Tanaka. #Yankees #Dodgers http://bit.ly/1i69tAF He posted the same article yesterday. So I guess it's nothing earth shattering or breaking today.
January 17, 201412 yr Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 42s Sources: #Mariners in same place, needing ownership approval to keep spending. Do not appear in play for Tanaka. N. Cruz still of interest.
