May 10, 201411 yr I wonder if this is the quickest a reliever has ever been designated for assignment after starting the 9th with a 1-run lead. Less than a month.
May 10, 201411 yr It was time. I thiought they might give him one more shot, but it doesn't chap my ass they didn't.

Less than a month. Maybe Mitchell Boggs with St. Louis. There has to be closers who have been DFA'd during the season.Valverde got DFA'd as the Tigers closer. Edited May 10, 201411 yr by Dick Allen

May 10, 201411 yr Author I think the best thing about Cleto going is that Sox actually had better options to replace him. They aren't just shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.
May 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (knightni @ May 10, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) Part of me hopes that he gets an option to AAA. There's definitely talent there. Good post!

May 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (sammy esposito @ May 10, 2014 -> 05:41 PM) If he has gotten dfaed he will get a new location. Not necessarily, he could clear waivers and wind up in Charlotte.

May 10, 201411 yr Where's Caulfield ? Holden I told you Cleto would be gone. I don't remember what thread but it was a recent one.

A lot of this is because Putnam's become so reliable now, and they don't want to risk losing Noesi, because of his potential ability as a starter. They also were able to pile up some experienced veteran depth in AAA in Guerra and Francisco. What they're planning to do with Webb going forward, no idea. Edited May 10, 201411 yr by caulfield12

IMO I think Webb or maybe even Petricka are lead candidates for the closer role in the future. I think both could be a very good 8th-9th inning when their control is good.
