Maikel Cleto DFA

He gone.

I wonder if this is the quickest a reliever has ever been designated for assignment after starting the 9th with a 1-run lead. Less than a month.

It was time. I thiought they might give him one more shot, but it doesn't chap my ass they didn't.

Maybe Mitchell Boggs with St. Louis. There has to be closers who have been DFA'd during the season.Valverde got DFA'd as the Tigers closer.

Meant to specify non-closer, i.e. what would normally be considered high-leverage relievers.

Guess I won't be humming the Lido Shuffle every time he pitches any more.

I think the best thing about Cleto going is that Sox actually had better options to replace him. They aren't just shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

Part of me hopes that he gets an option to AAA. There's definitely talent there.

Fastest 2.25 era to dfa I can recall given enough appearances

I think he has some talent also. Just needs to figure out location. The bullpen just seems to be a constant work in progress but getting better

If he has gotten dfaed he will get a new location.

Not necessarily, he could clear waivers and wind up in Charlotte.

Where's Caulfield ? Holden I told you Cleto would be gone. I don't remember what thread but it was a recent one.

Here.

A lot of this is because Putnam's become so reliable now, and they don't want to risk losing Noesi, because of his potential ability as a starter.

They also were able to pile up some experienced veteran depth in AAA in Guerra and Francisco.

What they're planning to do with Webb going forward, no idea.

IMO I think Webb or maybe even Petricka are lead candidates for the closer role in the future. I think both could be a very good 8th-9th inning when their control is good.

You can't deny that arm. He just doesn't seem to be willing to sacrifice a little bit for some control.
