He's having a nightmare second half.

Mere presence of Drogbas corpse showing up has made for an awesome atmosphere. 2 quick goals too.

While I admit his presence alone changed the atmosphere and gave Ivory Coast a boost, he's also been a handful for Japan. He's still deadly, just maybe not for 90 minutes at this level.

Bar bet: ask someone to name two countries that border the Ivory Coast.

Japanese defense got too lackadaisical.

Ghana and Senegal?

Japan had a few chances to push it to 2-0 in the first half.

They offered no threat of a second goal after the break.

Ghana and Senegal?

Liberia, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Ghana; its southern boundary is along the Gulf of Guinea.

8 games played so far and no draws. Groups A-D all have two teams with 3 points and two teams with none.

Illinois and California.

But ya, I have no idea where the Ivory Coast is.

With all of my years in futures, about the only thing I know about IC, is most of the worlds cocoa comes from there.

In 6th-7th grade, we extensively studied Central/South American and European Geography, but never did Asian or African. I've learned a fair amount of it on my own, mostly through following current events, the Olympics and soccer, but I'm still pretty weak in African geography. I would have guessed Liberia and gotten that one right, but I think I also would have guessed Togo and Benin, which at least are close.

The thing I know most about Africa is that Toto blessed the rains down there.

Wow. What an ending for Switzerland, goal at the "buzzer" to win after Ecuador had a chance and just didn't shoot. Awesome.

That was going to be the only boring game of the cup so far then that happens. Incredible start to this tournament so far

So is Switzerland ever going to be dangerous offensively for how high their FIFA ranking is?

Soccer flopping is hilarious. I'm pretty sure a gnat touching them is a mortal wound.

Argentina giving up a late goal there to make things a BIT interesting.

Shouldn't have been that close.

I had that game as 2-1 in my pool, so that was good. :)

Bosnia outplayed Argentina but could not finish at all unless it was on their own net. Messi on the other hand was terrible but man could he finish.

If Messi was terrible, I'd love to know what he needs to do to be good in your eyes.

I'd like to know what game you were watching then. Outside that great finish, he was terrible, though his teammates also being horrible didn't help. Attempted just 6 forward passes the entire game and connected on 0 of them. That's as bad as it gets. Fortunately for Argentina that finish was good enough to make that not matter.

That Messi goal though. Geez.

It's remarkable he didn't get knocked down by that tackle flying at him, but he's so used to 3-4 players hounding him and flying all over the place that it's just second nature to hop over by instinct.

I think Messi's dealing with the LeBron syndrome. So much hype, that it's becoming impossible to live up to it. For example, in the Argentine press, they've opined that if Argentina doesn't win the World Cup, he will be forgotten in 20 years and only Maradona will still be remember. Hard to live up to those expectations, and hard to control the talent/quality of your teammates as well when you play on a national team, not to mention the coaching problems/controversy in 2010.

Messi seemed a little off, maybe trying to do too much with all the pressure on his shoulders. Wouldnt call him terrible.
