2014 FIFA World Cup

The USA is getting badly outplayed in the 2nd half so far. They really need to start doing a better job keeping possession.

This is the soccer equivalent of prevent defense.

He had a back post run he cut off short for no reason. It was a sure goal.

That's what happens when you play for a 1-0 win.

And then they shut me up

Gotta play better Sunday but 3 points!!!!

But going forward, if Jozy is out then that will be devastating.

Not the best game but 3 points sure feels f***in nice! Find a way to tie Portugal now and we should be golden.

If only they had another guy on the roster who has experience scoring lots of goals.

Didn't take long for the crappy Donovan reference.

Nice to see a win to start The World Cup

They really played way too conservatively the 2nd half and had no business getting that win if you look at the number of possessions, shots and quality of attacks.

That said, even Christiano Ronaldo or Messi can be shut down quite easily by 2-3 defenders or a marking scheme, so losing one forward shouldn't be the death knell. It all comes down to Portugal vs. Ghana and the US vs. Portugal. Wasn't expecting much this World Cup so a win still feels nice, no matter how it transpires.

We should be rooting for a Portugal Ghana draw right?

US plays Portugal next. Best case scenario is US beats Portugal and Germany beats Ghana, then everything is decided before the last match and the US and Germany can just sit down and have a nice picnic next week.

He's right. Attacking from the kids was absolutely atrocious today. Someone like Landon would have been perfect. But we got lucky, got the win. Let's hope we play better the next two.

Grant Park was awesome by the way. Crowd was great.

Got some air time on ESPN.

Aron Jóhannsson has done pretty well this year in club. He actually replaced Altidore at AZ Alkmaar.

Yeah love him. On paper might even be a better option than Jozy but today he was not good at all.

The execution wasn't there, but he did what he needed to do. The US wasn't keeping or getting possession much at all, and certainly not forward, so he tried to create chances by himself by going at defenders. It didn't work, but if one of those does it's a clear shot on goal for a team that couldn't create a chance passing the ball.

You want someone who was terrible? Michael Bradley. He made several poor passes and that decision to cross to no one instead of going to the corner in the 95th minute clinched what was a totally bizarre game from him. That looked more like the Roma Bradley than the one most USMNT fans love.

Has Essien really fallen off that much in his play? Guess I'm too attached to the glory days of Chelsea when Lampard, Essien and Drogba were absolute studs.

I wasn't able to watch the game, but I sure wish I did.

Jozy just can't catch a break. Hopefully, Dempsey's nose isn't too broken.
