I'd love to get JP Howell from their bullpen but probably unlikely.

Do we think Ethier's last year is an aberration or a trend? I don't mind how he fits in our lineup.

 

He was one of the most consistent players you're going to find for 6 years straight putting up a wRC+ between 120 to 134.

Last year he had a bad April, a good May, a bad June, and then after that he only started 22 games the rest of the season because of their logjam. You can't be sure if any player is going to return to form, but he's definitely had a consistent track record.

 

If you ask me who's going to have the best year next year (given that they get regular playing time) between Ethier, Crawford, Markakis, Melky, Morse, Rasmus, Aoki, and Travis Snider, Melky might be my top bet, and Ethier would be 2nd.

If Andrew Friedman is half as good as his hype, I don't see how the White Sox get useful parts for next to nothing.

Well, that's too bad, because the best fit may be Ethier. He is a left handed bat that could hit behind Abreu. He's not the hitter I had hoped for, but he would do vs. RH pitching.

However, if he thinks that he's going to face LH pitching on the Sox, he can go ahead and pout.

He is not a viable option against LH pitching. He could work, platooned with Semien or even Shuck, who hits lefties, even though he is left handed, himself.

However, Ethier is not an every day player, especially hitting behind Abreu. if he faces lefties, he should be batting way down at the bottom of the order.

Get the Dodgers to kick in some money, and tell Ethier to shut up and play when and where he's told. Geez, I hate these modern day prima donnas!!

the problem is, he has no leverage to play hard ball. he has 3 outfielders contracts

that is like an anchor around the dodgers neck. he has 2 prospect that should be

starting.

 

if he is going to play hard ball, then the dodgers should be prepare to buy out some

contracts.

especially if he going to make a trade. he is going to be very tough. to show he

Peterson definitely should be playing. Van Syke's probably more of a 4th although he would be playing a lot more for many teams.

On a sidenote, I really don't get people complaining about the Dodgers OF'ers wanting to play and being unhappy about sitting. They didn't sign 100M deals to sit on benches and not play everyday. They were put in this position by Dodgers management who brought in too many guys for an area (part of that was due to need because of various injuries, etc) but the reality is those guys are starters in the league and are paid to do so. It is perfectly fair for them to want to do it.

 

Ethier played the good guy role back in 2012 and then asked to be traded last off-season. Dodgers didnt' do so and he was very very unhappy and it is no surprise his performance dropped.

The Dodgers would have to take Danks and kick in cash, or just kick in a lot of cash, for me to take Ethier. That being said, I'd still do it.

Figure out a trade where the Sox get Kemp, AJ Ellis, and Arruebarrena and the Dodgers get Alexei and John Danks.
