Chris Sale

From a MLB.com article on the Red Sox site is this silly reference:

Given that these are guys who do little on a small scale maybe they can cobble together a package of players enticing enough to

make the White Sox consider trading Chris Sale...

So, since we're likely headed for over a week long lull - what would it take for Boston to entice YOU to trade Sale?

You forgot Cecchini, Ranuado, and Fenway Park.

Everyone has a price....even Chris Sale. The package would need to be in the range of Swihart, Bogarts, Ceccini, Betts, Owens and Ranaudo. And that just gets me to start thinking. I'd probably force Danks on them as well.

If we trade Sale, then we're punting the 2015 & 2016 seasons. If that's the case, why would you care about John Danks' salary being on our books?

Chris Sale is 1 (great) starting pitcher....if we have the chance to get 2 or 3 offensive starters and 2 SP's in return we wouldn't be punting anything in 2016, we would be a much better team actually. I like Sale as much as the next fan, but when you are talking about building a WS winning team no 1 player is too valuable to trade. Like I said, everyone has a price.

Look at all 8 of the names availabke for King Felix a few years ago. Some have had OK careers since, but even if Boston gave you all 8, you still lose.

How'd Hanley and Anibal Sanzhez for Beckett work out for the Red Sox?

But this isn't even worth arguing over....Sale isn't getting traded anytime soon. Just a fun thing to think about, I'm a junkie for trade ideas lol

Pedro circa 1999?

The Red Sox acquired the best player on a World Series winning team in that trade. I feel like I'm missing your point here, since Sale would be Josh Beckett in this case.

That worked out awesome for the Red Sox. In 2007, Josh Beckett was the Cy Young runner up and Mike Lowell finished 5th in the MVP race. In the playoffs, Beckett gave up 4 ER total in 4 starts and won all 4 games. Mike Lowell was the World Series MVP.

ReD Sxo won the WS. So why would the White Sox give someone else a better chance ar a WS?

Ok, ok I forgot the Red Sox won the world series. Still an example of trading an ace pitcher for a good return. If the Marlins weren't the Marlins Hanley and Sanchez should have been much better for their long term success than Beckett and Lowell.

Obviously all prospects are risks, but Owens, Bogarts, Swihart, Betts, and Ranaudo would have a really good chance of starting for us in 2016. Of course that's in a prefect world where they all succeed, but still a risk worth at least entertaining in my opinion. Not like they are 18 year olds, they have all had success in the upper minors with a good bit of pedigree behind them.

You should want minimum 2 players that have had sustained success in the majors. And thats just the start.

You are punting at least the next 3 years making this deal.

Its not a popular opinion... But, I wouldn't be closed minded to a deal for Sale. I read something last year about how the Sox could possibly get a Hershel Walker like return for him. If they did trade him, and then signed a top notch ace like Sherzer to take his place, I would have to think the team would be better overall.

The problem is the odds are near 100% that you won't be getting back anyone who will ever be as good as Chris Sale. Your hope is when you are trading an 8 on the baseball scale, is that you get back 2 or 3 5's, to fill other holes. I'd rather have the star.

That was close to 10 years ago. The fact that it takes that long to find a clear winner for the seller, probably is evidence alone of how often this works out.

I would not be opposed to it but I ma not certain there is an equitable return.

Off the top of my head Pittsburgh would be an option with McCuthchen and then top two players or Houston with Appeal and good young position players.

Sale is good, young and cost controlled.

I could see Q making a lot of sense for Boston if they miss on Lester. They would probably prefer Hamels at that point because he would cost less in prospects due to his related contract, but I could see a deal bring made if the Red Sox want to put something together.

reading is a skill that i lack right now and frequently
