Source: There is growing confidence in the Dodgers organization that they're going to be able to finish Aroldis Chapman trade.

 

Dodgers want to finish off games early. Jansen was the only really reliable guy all year. Cubs want to go ahead and do the same thing along with the Astros.

This should be a very interesting haul for Cinci. Curious to see what the Dodgers give up if they do trade for Chapman.

Not sure why, but I was kind of disappointed to see this. Was really hoping Greinke loss would allow doc to take advantage of a Q trade.

I don't forsee it. Their GM has been on LA Radio the past two weeks. They want bullpen help. Plus it doesn't make sense to acquire Chapman just to dump Jansen contract wise.

Agreed. See 2015 Washington Nationals. It ended with the new closer strangling the team golden boy.

They had Cueto, Chapman and Leake.

 

They had the great Bruce (see earlier threads fawning on this guy), Votto and the speedy Hamilton and the elite, the super duper, the best of the best Todd Frazier. They had Marlon Byrd and Brandon Phillips, both of whom outhit Melky.

 

Why did they suck so badly with all of this elite talent? Seems like 1 or 2 pitchers would have put them over the top.

Once they let go of Baker, it all fell apart. You can say maybe that team proved it cannot play up to its talents, but Dusty, for all the s*** he gets, got the most out of them like he did for the Cubs and Giants.

In all seriousness, that probably gives them the most dominating back end in baseball, but listening to O'Dowd yesterday, it makes you wonder if this messes with Jansen. He mentioned the human element when Sean Casey said Jansen probably wouldn't mind if he was a set up guy if it meant wins. O'Dowd mentioned that Jansen really hasn't been paid yet, and a lot of his future earnings are tied into saves. Not closing games costs him money.

Depends on the prospects and if the Dodgers are able to extend Chapman which I'm sure they will try and do.

I think this is real. Now, lucky for him, with the royals success even non-closers are getting paid 10 million per now if dominant. But this is certainly a risk.
