A's called up JB Wendelken, acquired in the Lawrie trade.

Not a good debut. Machado hit a grand slam.

Oakland a bit premature in calling up Wendelken (to say the least).

Josh Phegley was Oakland's best pitcher today. Even got a K.

Strasburg signs a 7 year, $175 million extension with the Nationals. Apparently during the middle of a start!

Nice job Strasberg. For that injury history, that is insanity.

And promptly gives up 4 runs to a Tigers team that just got swept.

Straus also gets two opt outs, and an extra million for each time he goes over 180 IP.

SP free agent class after this year was already really thin, now it's really horrible. The best SP available will be... Volquez? Cashner? Iwakuma? Hill? Yuck.

I think Harper might get fined or suspended for this, but it's absolutely hilarious.

Is a guy kicked out allowed back onto the field even on a walkoff like that?

No idea.

I mean he was just tossed like 30 seconds before. Who knows.

He's trying to be the new face of the mlb right? Well he should get suspended for that. Cmon, so many kids are going to see that. Show some class.

Isn't the game over by then?

Isn't the game over by then?

Game is over when the batter touches home plate. Was he on the field before or after then?

Based on my novice level lip reading ability, it looks like he might be doing a quick homage to Andrew Shaw.

Nats will regret this contract.

They should be saving every dime for Harper right now. He'll be worth the biggest contract in baseball.

I like how the umpire reacted to Harper. Just turned and walked away, lol.

Silly Question.

Regarding a walk-off HR...

If the run doesn't count until the batter touches all of the bases - including home plate - how can teammates leave the dugout and celebrate without being considered to be in the field of play? Guys are all over the base line, etc. The game isn't officially over, correct?

Would Harper have been considered to be returning to the field illegally after being tossed?

If the other players can be out there too, then he's not technically on the actual field if he's outside of the baseline?

I think 7 years and $175 is a great deal for the Nationals. Strasburg is very good and that's what those guys cost. He could have gotten more on the open market. Should have a front 3 of Scherzer, Strasburg, and Giolito for years to come. I'd love to pry Tanner Roark away from them.
