May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 27, 2016 -> 09:24 PM) Unless Brian backs it up, I have zero faith in White Sox Dave. This is the same guy who bet his reputation that Cespedes and the White Sox had finalized a deal this winter, like four times. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 27, 2016 -> 09:27 PM) And with Shields' age, contract, and declining performance, I wouldn't give up anything of value for him. Posted in the other thread but more relevant here ^
May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 27, 2016 -> 09:29 PM) Posted in the other thread but more relevant here ^ To be fair, Shields has been good this year on a really bad team, knows the AL, and I'm pretty sure he has an opt out after this year or next.
May 28, 20169 yr Oh yay, wasting financial resources on a team that is sinking fast and could be in 4th place by the end of next week.
May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2016 -> 09:42 PM) Oh yay, wasting financial resources on a team that is sinking fast and could be in 4th place by the end of next week. But...but...we are still in first place. Edited May 28, 20169 yr by soxfan85
May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 27, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) To be fair, Shields has been good this year on a really bad team, knows the AL, and I'm pretty sure he has an opt out after this year or next. Why would he do that? He's not going to get MORE money on the open market...unless he just had a tremendous season this year and led the White Sox to the playoffs and went into next year's FA market, but what exactly are the odds of that happening?
May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 27, 2016 -> 10:27 PM) Why would he do that? He's not going to get MORE money on the open market...unless he just had a tremendous season this year and led the White Sox to the playoffs and went into next year's FA market, but what exactly are the odds of that happening? Yea, I cannot possibly see a 35 year old pitcher forfeit $42M to take a chance on a weak FA market. He's be nuts to do that.
May 28, 20169 yr SP is like our 3rd or arguably 4th biggest need right now. Wouldn't be a fan of this unless we got him for literally nothing.
May 28, 20169 yr We would definitely benefit from another starter and his contract dictates you'd have to give up very little talent. Note that it's a backloaded (sort of deal), so $10M last year and $21M each year until it ends. I'm not sure if Shields is the guy, but I would imagine as Hahn looks at deals he's checking out guys that are making a lot of money that he could basically in exchange for eating the contract

May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 28, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) Dennis Lin on twitter: @sdutdennislin Sources: Padres, White Sox discussing James Shields trade. Unclear if deal is imminent, but talks have "energy" Alright, a more reliable source. I'd only be down for this trade if they pay a lot of his backloaded salary
May 28, 20169 yr .@barstoolWSD mentioned yesterday that the teams were in discussions. https://twitter.com/sdutdennislin/status/736654075152891904
May 28, 20169 yr The Padres are willing to eat some of Shields' contract in a trade. Good. His velocity is down and his peripherals aren't as encouraging as his oft-cited ERA, however
May 28, 20169 yr #WhiteSox are in trade discussions with the #Padres for James Shields, as talks have "significant momentum," according to @sdutdennislin. https://twitter.com/MaxWildstein/status/736654846678405120
May 28, 20169 yr I'm just going to be upfront about this, I'm not a fan of this trade unless San Diego eats a lot of his contract.
May 28, 20169 yr Does he replace Gonzalez or Latos? I assume Gonzalez but he has done well against KC the last 2 times out
May 28, 20169 yr Despite my general negative attitude on this potential acquisition, I will say that Sale Quintana Shields Rodon Latos/Fulmer looks a hell of a lot better than what we currently have.

May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 28, 2016 -> 03:34 PM) Fulmer? Guy wont sniff majors this year. Latos/Miggy. I know he's pitching horribly right now (Fulmer), but don't be surprised if he does get called up this year, even before September
May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 28, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) Keith Law said, Tim Anderson is available for a SP... *shrugs* Oh god no
May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (fathom @ May 28, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) Oh god no Rabbit from here said they weren't discussing him with this deal..
May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 28, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) Keith Law said, Tim Anderson is available for a SP... *shrugs* I really, really hope that this would be for a pitcher much better/less pricey than Shields
May 28, 20169 yr QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 28, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) Keith Law said, Tim Anderson is available for a SP... *shrugs* If the Sox trade Anderson for 34 year old James f***ing Shields, I might just have to turn in my fan card.
