    MLB Winter Meetings Thread

I was saying I do want all those guys, just not Gallo. I mean, yeah if you ask about Darvish or Hendricks, you're going to pay a lot. That's ok. It's time for the Sox to take a swing for the fences.

Don't want Gallo. Gross. Lynn or Darvish, heck yeah! And ask about Hendricks while talking to the Cubs.

Official: McCann is a Met, $40/4 years

Anyone who still says Grandal is a top 2 catcher. I would have to assume they read stats, but rarely actually watch baseball games.

    Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)

I agree with most of this. Though I wouldn't call Cease's 2020 horrible. Just a bit disappointing. I'm very happy we have a new pitching coach to work with him. The tools are there.

    Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)

The Sox have to get someone near the TOR. Bauer is probably going to be a tough one with the Mets out there wanting to spend gobs of money. I have a hard time imagining Jerry outbidding them. But I hope we somehow do land him. That would make the Sox among the World Series favorites for sure. Otherwise, give Jed a call and see if they are interested in moving Hendricks or Darvish. I know the rumor is they are aren't doing a full rebuild, but you never know.

Official: McCann is a Met, $40/4 years

McCann at half the price of Grandal would of been the better route as we look at this a year later. But that ship has sailed. Grandal is hard to figure out. His defense gets high grades from the analytics people, but often fails the eye test. And now I understand why we heard these negative things from Dodger and Brewer fans about his defense. He makes some real basic errors and often times has trouble catching breaking balls. But he also brings a lot to the table - particularly offensively, and the pitch framing.

    Offseason Targets

Man, they've come so far in the rebuild and appear to be so close. It would be such a shame if they cheaped out this late in the game. And I agree that I'd be uneasy handing the keys to DH to Vaughn. He needs to show some success in the minor leagues first IMO.

Len Kasper is new White Sox radio play by play announcer

This is good. Too bad he isnt replacing Benetti on tv.

Manhattan is awesome. But you would need double for the crazy cost of living expenses.

Whoa! I don't know about that man, but hey, I love your optimism. Reminds me of the Manny Machado winter. Jerry surprises us every couple of decades. We're overdue.

    Kris Bryant

I would probably do it, but only if they are unable to sign Springer.

    The Blake Snell Thread

OK you guys are splitting hairs a bit more than I had in my mind when I worried about 'losing the trade'. If it was close and pushed you over the edge, of course it would be worthwhile. My bigger concern is that the Rays front office usually makes the right move - and if they're all of the sudden wanting to move Snell - I'm suspicious as to why. I know they like to recycle their assets, but I would be concerned that there might be more to this from their point of view.

    The Blake Snell Thread

The Sox don't have the payroll might to make a Sale type trade, where you expect to ultimately lose the trade value-wise. They gotta hold on tight to cheap controllable talent.

    The Blake Snell Thread

I wouldn't make a move for Snell. I wouldn't like our chances of winning a trade with Tampa. And if you do give up Kopech and Vaughn, and then Snell doesn't work out (he's only thrown more than 129 IP once)...you may of just ruined the rebuild with this trade. Just open up the checkbook Jerry and sign Bauer. Then we have a more reliable #1 than Snell, and we get to keep Vaughn and Kopech.

Some much needed good news - Crochet

    Good news....for now
  17. I do think TLR should resign. And I hope he does. But taking this to complaining to advertisers seems overboard. And ultimately could really hurt this franchise long-term if any of them actually pull their advertising from the Sox (doubtful).

    Tony La Russa named Manager

Signing Trevor Bauer would be a nice silver lining.

    Tony La Russa named Manager

It would feel weird to me to hire Tony La Russa when he's almost 80. But eh, if they do, they do. Hopefully big spending comes this winter with whatever managerial decision is made. That's the more thing here And if they do hire TLR, man that will bring me back to my childhood. I was 11 years old in the right field upper deck on the day they clinched the division in 83. Those are some great memories.

    Mazara and Right Field Thread

The difference is, Mazara was already at a point of his team giving up on him before COVID hit him and his performance slipped. The Sox need to find something better.

    Convince Me: Marcus Stroman

Didn't Stroman opt out in 2020? What makes anyone think he wont do that again next year? The pandemic isn't going to go poof and go away, no matter what our president says.

    Shifts could be endangered

Shifting has always happened, but it's spiraled out of control in recent years. I guess I'll be the lone one in support of this if it happens. I've always found it lame to stack one side of the infield. Put the onus back on the pitcher to not let the hitter get hard contact.

What would you have done ...

I think it's way easier for us to sit here Monday morning quarterbacking and say we would of quit or blown it open. But in real life, you don't narc on your team and co-workers. I suspect most of us would of done similar to what AJ did.

Will the Front Office Fire Renteria?

As someone else said, my heart says yes, but my head is skeptical. But I'll take the leap of faith and say yes. They've invested so much in this rebuild. Why would you let an idiot steer the ship with so much on the line?
