  1. A guy spends 3-4 years in AA/AAA and comes up to the Majors at age 26/27 nobody has a problem calling him a rookie. Another guy spends the same amount of time in a foreign league, whose skill level is equal or lower than AAA, before making it to the Majors and those same people don't think he's a rookie. Where's the logic in that?
  2. Sale 300th k of the season. 1st time in AL since '99 (Pedro).
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:44 PM) He may end up with the worst back half of a hall of fame career ever right? If he plays out his contract, or even most of it, his career average will drop below .300 and his OPS may drop into the .800's. Crazy after how good he was the majority of his career.
  4. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) Because Avi is not going to settle for ~25 million guaranteed like TA. He's going to be looking for something like 4 years 90 million. At best 4 years 75 million. I simply don't think Avi has the track record to give that kind of contract out. I know from Avi and his agent's perspective this is who he his, but from the Sox' perspective they have to consider the whole picture. Not a chance Avi would look for 4/90 or even 4/75. He's only looking at $6M-$8M next year, $10M-$12M in 2019 in his last arbitration years. Even if you slip him a little extra those two years, say $25M total that would buy out his first two FA years at $25M-$32.5M per year. Neither he nor his agent would be delusional enough to think he could get that.
  5. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) Well how about this: Yoán Moncada (age 22 y, 110 d): youngest #WhiteSox player to reach base 5x in game (H, BB or HBP) since Frank Thomas (22 y, 109 d) 9/13/1990 It's kind of cool that literally the two biggest prospects to come up with the Sox during my lifetime share a birthday.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) Trade. Probably this winter. I think he would have been gone already if Hahn had his way. I don't think the return would be high enough to justify trading him.
  7. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) lol, this is incredibly misleading. 14 days would already be a ridiculously small sample...but he was on the DL. He's basically been back a week. I'm a backer and I'm not worried about him, but come on now. What exactly is misleading about it. I made a simple statement that is 100% true. You don't think a guys performance coming off the DL holds some weight when compared to his poor performance leading up to the DL stint? The guy has 184 PA's in the Major Leagues. A 42 PA sample size represents nearly a quarter of his entire career.
  8. No way in hell anybody takes on the $184M guaranteed to Miggy over the next 6. If he rebounds next year and has a good year the Tigers would still probably have to eat at least half to move him.
  9. Yoan with a .306/.375/.527/.902 slash and a tolerable 25% k rate so far in September. Can't complain about that.
  10. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Jose can pack his bags if he asks for that. One great year shouldn't overshadow the last 2 mediocre years. He was a middle of the road 1st basemen who can't field his position. Factor his age into that. No way Jose. And over those two "mediocre" seasons fangraphs still valued him at $40M. He made less than half that.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) Good luck to him then, I don't think theres any chance he gets that. It seems that teams are learning not to pay big/long money for DH's on the wrong side of 30. That's neither big money, nor long term.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) I'm not the first to mention 120 losses on here. And guess what? With this bullpen, it's a 110-120 loss team. The bullpen right now is as pathetic as I can ever remember seeing. The Sox are on pace to "only" lose 97 games. They have gone 14-22 since trading their two stud relievers in Robertson and Kahnle, which would also be a 97 loss pace. Where are those other 13-23 losses coming from? With Moncada, Giolito, and Lopez being up for the whole year plus a full year out of Rodon and another year of development for all the young players, something would have to go horribly wrong for this team to lose even 110 games. Not to mention 120, which as I stated before only one team had ever done. Do you really think next years team is going to be among the 5 worst in the history of baseball? Give me a break. Quit talking about s*** you don't have a clue on and go watch your precious Royals and be done with it.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) I forgot about him. Nasty. I do think we should not let our future studs play on 120 loss teams. Keep them in the minors until we at least have the possibility of .500. But hey, I want to win now so I will accept the rushing of players if that's what it takes. Your hyperbole gets real old. This is nowhere near a 120 loss team with or without our prospects being called up. Why? Because there has only been one 120 loss team since the turn of the 20th century.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) If Kopech forces his way into the MLB rotation next year, even EARLY next year, fine. If Kopech is in the MLB rotation on Opening Day, the White Sox are stupid. Service time is important. Hahn is not stupid enough to give up basically a whole 7th year just to get the 2 extra starts Kopech would have by being on the opening day roster.
  15. QUOTE (Soha @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) Even if he earns it, don't they want to at least wait until mid May for control purposes? You only have to keep a player down for roughly 11-12 days to earn that "7th" year. If you're worried about Super 2, it will be around the end of May.
  16. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) Will his production be there at that age though? I'm not too sure about that. The way it's going, Nicky D will be a superior hitter at that point imo. Maybe he'll be a coach by then. I think Jose will be a lifetime sox though. He will have a job with the organization whenever he wants. Kudos to him for being a grade A human being The team will be contending in 2020 and should be at least be semi competitive by 2019. Jose will be all of 32-33 years old. I think he'll be alright. But according to you he's not productive now, so I don't know.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) 100% this. He was the worst tactician I can remember AND he was awful with people. If I remember correctly, wasn't it Bevington who signaled to the bullpen for a pitching change but didn't have anybody warming up?
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) Not quite as much as the inevitability of a useless throw away comment by yourself when you have nothing of value to add to the conversation. You are the poster child for adding nothing of value to the conversation. We get it, you don't like Reinsdorf. Move on you broken f***ing record.
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 06:49 PM) They don't have the MLB package? Does a WGN black out the DirectTV s***? I live in SW WI. We are considered in market for the Sox but are 180 miles from Chicago. Any of the affiliates that broadcast the WGN games are too far away to get a signal unless you have a perfect line of sight. I can get CSN games only. The MLB packages are blacked out because we are in market. Its ridiculous.
  20. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 06:34 PM) I will pm you a link if you want. Thanks but im good. Sitting at the bar hoping to watch it there but no WGN where i live.
  21. Of course tonight is a WGN game so I have no legal way to watch it. s*** gets real old.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) Yes, NOW it is too late. But if he had taken a traditional trip through the minors it might have looked like this... Drafted 2014, signed late. Goes to rookie ball for some short starts and relief appearances as is traditional for starters the Sox don't want to rush to limit IP. 2015, start off in Low A, eventually move to High A after the ASG. 2016 run through AA, maybe a late move up to AAA. 2017 start at AAA, called up around trading deadline to replace a traded pitcher. That's the type of timeline you give a pitcher drafted out of high school, not a college pitcher who went 3rd overall. 22 year old Carlos Rodon in low A ball would be a joke. He would be lights out.
  23. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) It's a reason I just don't see it compelling. I'd rather him continue to build confidence in his new mechanics without any MLB pressure. I don't really mind either way but personally unless they really want him to work with Cooper for his last few starts just keep in AAA. Would you rather just have him sit at home doing nothing? Knights last game is 9/4.
  24. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 1, 2017 -> 12:12 AM) Willie Harris. Kind of ironic both he and Willy have the same pronunciation in their name in a collision injury. That injury and season sucked. They hit 242 home runs that year despite losing Maggs for 2/3 of the year and The Big Hurt for 1/2 the year. Had they both been healthy they may have made the playoffs (though their pitching was mediocre) and probably would have set the all time single season team home run record.
  25. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:30 AM) thank you, additionally hes taking up a 40man spot and ARB 3 & 4 aren't cheap even with his down year. He'll be gone. He's on the 60 day DL. He's not taking up a spot on the 40 man.
