  1. Yeah, obviously. I just don't think the Sox, more specifically JR, are just going to punt everything they've built and cry poor at this point. But maybe. Would be awfully disappointing. I also just don't think TLR would be interested in coming back if his buddy didn't tell him he's going to be after legit difference makers in FA.
  2. What was the point of this rebuild if you're not willing to spend when its time to win? Obviously last offseason was a HUGE step in the right direction, but we still have two massive holes (RF and TOR SP), need some backend bullpen help and still have a relatively cost controlled core for a couple more seasons. Things have changed economically with the current state of the country, but I have a really hard time believing JR is going to be cheap this offseason. I also have a really hard time believing TLR would be interested in the team if they weren't going to at least supplement the existing team with good fits in those spots. Sox may very well miss out on Bauer and Springer, but other than those two, no one else that makes sense is going to break the bank. There are plenty of ways to improve this team via FA without those two, though obviously my plan 1A and 1B include one or the other.
  3. I think its pretty clear, at least on the pitching side, that these bargain basement AAVs aren't going to happen like some projected.
  4. I probably would. Means we can sign someone like Brantley for LF and move Eloy to DH most of the time where he belongs. Much better fit for our team in the near time, and slugging 1B/DH can almost always be found on the FA market. Not sure why the Astros make that deal though.
  5. Yeah, I mean Odorizzi would be fine back up option on a 1 year prove it deal, but he's not a great fit for Sox Park. He's likely to sign elsewhere, IMO. I know the Twins want to retain him and have a bid on the table.
  6. Just to live in la la land for a couple mins.... Trade Vaughn, Cease, Stiever, Collins, Adolfo and Matthew Thompson for Yelich and Burnes. Sign Michael Brantley to play LF. Move Eloy to DH where he belongs. That is one amazing lineup. Anderson SS, Yelich RF, Abreu 1B, Eloy DH, Moncada, 3B, Robert CF, Brantley LF, Grandal C, Madrigal 2B LOL. You could pick that lineup out of a hat each day its so good. So much balance, power and OBP. WOW Never happening, but yeah. Fun to think about. Sox would still need to add 2 FA SP, so JR would need to approve like a $175M payroll.
  7. Its likely not close to enough. But if there was a trade I'd give up Vaughn in, this would be it.
  8. 5/$100 probably the baseline but I'd bet the over. But tough to know for sure what teams are going to do.
  9. I don’t. It’s trash and I don’t follow. But I see him in mentions all the time. It’s like tonykowalski or some shit like that.
  10. Pretty sure Peavy44 does have a Twitter tho! 😂😂
  11. Rodon? Lol. C'mon WSD. He gowneeeeee.
  12. Ok. So sign one of Bauer and Springer. If you sign Bauer, supplement with Joc/JBJ + Quintana. If you sign Springer, supplement with two of Tanaka/Quintana/Paxton/Walker/Odorizzi/Minor. Or trade for a SP that doesn't require creating a hole in the 21-27 lineup like moving any of Madrigal/Vaughn/Kopech/Cease/Dunning/Crochet would do. The Sox don't have to trade major prospects to put a championship level team on the field in 2021.
  13. Yeah, I guess I’ll need to see it to believe it. Hahn has stated over and over and over again that they’re in this for a sustained period of contention. They’re not interested in stop gaps, etc. Not looking for a flash in the pan of success. Trading any major prices for one year of Lance Lynn goes against everything we’ve been told since the beginning of the rebuild. I agree at some point things turn from talent cultivation to moving said talent for MLB assets. But trading MLB ready cheap cost controlled talent for short term fixes isn’t the answer. And it’s not like any of our major MLb ready assets don’t have a clear role on this team moving forward.
  14. One could ask the same of you.....
  15. But then he walks in a year and we’re now without what ever we traded for him with a huge part of the window still ahead. If you can get him without any of the elite prospects, I’m more interested. But I’m not trading any of Vaughn, Kopech, Madrigal, Cease, Dunning or other long term mlb assets for 1 year of Lance Lynn. Stiever + lower level pieces makes sense, but I’m sure TEX can do better. Why give up major future building blocks when we can sign SP for nothing but dollars in a depressed market? 2021 is just the very beginning of this window of contention.
  16. Nice. Guess not all coaches are scared to be associated with TLR.
  17. I understand. I said the Sox will be just fine. He said they won't. We're not discussing ethics in this particular conversation. I too think the Sox should fire TLR today. But they're not going to.
  18. I am far from a "Reinsdorf apologist" and nothing in my post would indicate as such. But I am not about to throw myself off a cliff because the Sox hired a guy with the 3rd most wins in MLB history because he got a DUI and he is old. Its a bad hire - I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. But its not going to be the beginning of the end for the Sox. As i've told you several times, the organization will be just fine and the Sox will still be very good in 21 no matter who manages them.
  19. It doesn't have any effect on FA, despite lots of naysayers wanting to believe it will.
  20. Yeah, I disagree. The Sox are going to be fine. Doesn't make it not frustrating. Doesn't make it not embarrassing. But TLR isn't going to tank the White Sox franchise or cause TA, Abreu, Moncada, Robert, Eloy, Grandal, Gioltio and Keuchel to forgot how to play baseball. 99/100 players are still going to go to the team that offers the most money. So JR may not offer what is necessary to get the FAs we all want, but they aren't not signing with the Sox directly because of TLR. Except for Stroman, who according to people that apparently have sources, the Sox weren't interested anyway. This isn't an ideal scenario and I get why some fans are up in arms. But this isn't the beginning of the end. People get DUIs. I don't support it, but it happens thousands of times everyday to people in high and low places.
  21. Sure, until the Sox offer real American dollars that surpass the real American dollars another team offers. Things change real quickly then for the vast majority of players. But in summary, I agree. They should can him and hire someone else. But they won’t. And the Sox will be just fine.
  22. We've seen one player turned off about coming here due to TLR. No one else other than Stroman to my knowledge. 99/100 guys are going to go to the team that offers the most money. Obviously we've seen that it isn't 100% with Wheeler, but a guy can much easier swallow a couple million less when were talking about $118M over 5 years, especially if its to keep the wife happy. Realistically, its very unlikely that another guy spurns the Sox if they're the top after tax bidder this offseason, just due to TLR. Look, TLR is an asshat and this was a poor hire and its looking worse by the day. But TLR should be competent enough to manage the team (he is third all time in MLB wins after all), and JR isn't going to pull a full 180 and fire the guy when by all reports the Sox already knew about this prior to the hire. Its embarrassing and really hard to understand their (his) logic. But it is what it is, and kicking and streaming about it is incredibly unlikely to change anything. Only way I see something happening is TLR gets sick of all the questions and just says fuck it. Short of that, he's going to be the manager, and the Sox are going to be just fine.
  23. I haven't read every post in this 20 page thread, but maybe the Sox knew about it prior to yesterday, but didn't know about it prior to hiring him. I don't think Reifert's comments would be inaccurate based on that timeline. Perhaps if that is the case, the Sox may actually decide to move on. But realistically, they knew about it beforehand and didn't care.
  24. I'd happily eat Blackmon's contract to get Marquez assuming the return would be substantially lower than just Marquez by himself. Blackmon, while not a fantastic defensive OF, would be a really solid fit. He has one year and $21.5M guaranteed left. He has two player options for 22 and 23. 22 is $21M so pretty much guaranteed he takes that. So you're looking at 2 years and $42.5M and he has another $10M player option in 2023 which is probably a coin flip if he takes at this point. Its a lot more than he'd get on the open market (obviously), but if you can get Marquez with him without giving up any of the marquee young players, it'd be worth looking into IMO.
