Yoan Moncada should volunteer to play 2b this year
This is brought up every thread. The answer is still no.

ReyLo skipped at AAA: Spot start? Hug watch? stayed tuned
Still doesn't make any sense for a spot start. He can start Wednesday, and then again on Monday on regular rest. I would think the Sox would prefer him on regular rest than 9 days of rest.

That makes sense. Dude was always posting the foodies.

Hmmm. Why didn’t Carlos pitch on Tue then? Lame

Except Escobar has been measurably better than Story this year. And is actually a 2B. You also have the reality that Story has never been that great of a hitter outside of Colorado. That said, I probably agree. Story is definitely a more exciting name, even tho the production may not be worth the extra acquisition cost.

I don't think Story would cost THAT much. Maybe a Burger/Sheets type + some low level back-end top 30 flyer. They just need something better than the comp pick. There won't be much competition for Story (outside maybe the Yanks) as the teams in contention are pretty well covered in the MI. I also don't love the fit, but I'd certainly support a Sheets + insert prospect rated between 20-30 in the system type deal. Thing is, you might be able to get Escobar for just the "insert prospect rated between 20-30 in the system". Is Story THAT much of an upgrade on Escobar, really? Then again, does Sheets really have a role on this club moving forward sans some doomsday injury scenario like we've seen this year. Sheets (and Burger) do still have 2 more option years after this, so Sox could certainly milk that if they chose.

ASB trade priorities
Agreed. At this point, I think I'd be good with Escobar and a reliever or two. Keep your eye out if a RF presents itself for a good price, but I really don't want to trade Crochet.

I hope Reylo figures it out someday. Seems like a good guy. Likely won’t be with Sox tho.

Eaton to Atlanta rumor
Jerry is ordering an expensive bottle of wine tonight! He just saved $300k!

Even if he’s being DFAd, doesn’t mean he needs to be scratched. He can pitch in AAA even if there an an impending DFA no?

I would have a problem with it, but got to give to get. The Sox lineup is mostly set for the foreseeable future. I'd MUCH rather see them open the pocketbook for RF than shorten the window by trading away a key piece like Crochet. Anderson SS, Moncada 3B, Abreu 1B, Eloy DH, Robert CF, Conforto RF, Grandal C, Vaughn LF, Madrigal 2B is the stuff dreams are made of. My god almighty.

Cleveland about to blow it up?
They will be. I am confident of that. Hahn has said as a much a million times.

I disagree, but its a fair take. Springer would have been nice, but he wasn't a perfect fit by any means. Conforto will also require significantly less financial commitment at htis point. This lineup needs balance. Not go get all Lillian, but we need a LH bat that isn't allergic to the walk in RF. This team remains very right handed heavy and free swinging outside of 2 players. Gallo would work too, but I personally would balk at what it would require. I don't even know if a Crochet + Burger + Thompson/Dalquist/Kelley gets it done. Its very possible we don't have the bullets to get Gallo without subtracting more than Crochet from the MLB team. I personally don't even want to move Crochet for him. Also, I am not penciling Cespedes or Colas into anything. Neither are that highly regarded around the league. If one of them turns into an everyday regular in the OF, great. But I don't think anyone should be counting on that.

lol. Conforto has a very solid track record as a 3.5-4 WAR player. Lifetime wRC+ and OPS+ of 125 in the league. He's a very good player, he bats LH, good OBP. He's a great fit for this club. I don't know exactly what is going on with him this season, but before the 2021 season he was looking at $100M+ deal. His price tag has certainly gone down in 21 due to his performance to date, but he's by far the best FA fit for the Sox in RF. If he returns to what he has always done, he is going to make a team very very very happy and create a ton of value. Who would you suggest is a better FA option?

More Moncada hot takez
Which is an incredibly important part of the game of baseball......

We legitimately, especially with his terrible season, could likely sign Michael Conforto to a 3 year deal for the amount of money Blackmon is owed as of the trade deadline. It makes no sense for a 3 month rental of a player we're going to have shift to a position he's never played anyway. Conforto will certainly have a market, but he's definitely hurt his bank account this season. Really hoping he's our RF next season.
-
Trevor Story
Yeah, Marquez + Story + Blackmon + cash is at least something worth considering, but its a video game trade that has no real basis in reality.
-
Trevor Story
Absorbing anything more than a few million bucks per season would be a terrible use of resources. He sucks and is not a solution to anything, but rather a hinderance.
-
Trevor Story
Except Blackmon sucks balls and is paid like a star. I'd rather just go get Escobar for next to nothing, and sign a legit LH RF this offseason for the money we'd be paying Blackmon. The White Sox absorbing ~$40-$45M for 2.5 seasons of Charlie Blackmon would be such a terrible use of resources.

If you're only willing to give up is Stiever/Adolfo types, you're not getting any of Frazier, Marte, or Story. edit: Maybe you could get Marte. But hard no on Frazier with secondary 40 man garbage stuff. Story obviously isn't going to cost an arm and a leg, but I think would require at least Burger ++.

ELOY back Monday against KC
I think Eloy should be the primary DH moving forward. But I want his bat in the lineup at NL parks and in the the World Series, if we're ever lucky enough to get there. He needs to play some LF this season and next until Abreu is gone (which likely isn't even happening after 22) and he can learn to play some 1B.

2021 Plan for Kopech and Crochet
Lots of options. I am not too concerned about the 2022 rotation. Giolito, Kopech, Cease and Keuchel is a great start. I don't think either Lynn or Rodon will be back, and that is OK. Obviously would love to get one of them back, but I am not paying for $15M+ AAV for Rodon. I think Lynn is a possibility. Just get a solid mid to back end guy, and FFS sign or trade for a legitimate LH RF and lets go to fucking battle. Let Crochet take 10 or so starts sprinkled throughout the year, mostly towards the backend and he can take Keuchel's spot in 23 if the option doesn't vest.

2021 Plan for Kopech and Crochet
I would be shocked if Kopech isn't starting regularly in August and September. Crochet? I don't even know at this point. No chance he is starting full time next season. But I don't see them sending him to AAA to get stretched out. So maybe a plan similar to Kopech's this year (assuming they actually stretch him out more in the 2nd half), and get him up to 80-100 innings in 2022, and transition to rotation in 2023.

Draft Day 3 Thread rounds 11-20
Why does teams not drafting kids that won't sign anyway mean the draft is fucked up? Honestly just curious why you feel that way - I am all aboard any train that is anti-Manfred.
