Or punt the 8/9 spot in your lineup and handcuff moves. That’s where it’s nice to have 3 catchers.

A poster or two were suggesting he’d go unclaimed on waivers as recently as like 10 days ago.

He sat the 2nd game yesterday tho, immediately after it happened.

The Grandal will come out tomorrow, you can bet your bottom dollar
This. Shit the dude they signed in AAA already is probably better. Cool story and I hope Zavala is enjoying it while it lasts.

Trade Deadline Thread
Looking back at my posts, you mentioned that if Kopech isn’t ready to start he should be in AAA on a Rehab assignment. Which is silly because he’s arguably the best arm in the pen. I want him starting games in Aug and Sep because I think he has the upside to be one of the best SP in the game in 22 and beyond. But I sure as shit am Not wasting his arm in AAA when we aren’t even getting service time benefits. Let him get stretched out while pitching to a 1.50 Era in the big leagues. Again, not sure what any of this has to do with an 8.5 game lead and the Sox having the luxury to wait for prices to drop.

No. And I have no idea what Kopech has to do with this. I’ve said repeatedly that they need to get Kopech stretched out and he needs to get to 80-100 innings this year. I said nothing of the 5 innings he’s pitched since he got off the IL other than he simply wasn’t ready to be anything more than opener last night so I wasn’t all up in arms about him not making a 2 inning start.

They have an 8.5 game lead and no real competition for the division. They can afford to wait until the prices drop.

That’s true tho. Eloy and Robert are elite players and far better than anyone that could be acquired via trade. Doesn’t mean Hahn won’t shore up some weaknesses tho.

Yeah, I mean I said as much in my post. But Leury has been hitting over .300 with an OBP around .400 since Nicky got hurt. And has played great D at 2B. If you wouldn’t give him an A+, I don’t know what you’d give him. He’s been amazing. Is it likely to continue thru Sep? Nah. Would I not acquire someone like Escobar due to the performance? Also nah. But Leury has been awesome the last 6 Weeks or so.

I’d love to upgrade on Leury and put him back in the role he should be in. But let’s not act like the dude hasn’t answered the bell. He’s been phenomenal since Nicky got hurt. A+.

ELOY back Monday against KC
And they just send Vaughn to the bench?
-
Luis Robert cleared for Rehab Assignment
Eloy is the primary DH next year. Vaughn is already a much better LF, and will continue to improve out there. They'll sign/trade for a RF. If the Sox run out an Eloy-Robert-Vaughn OF with any regularity next season (especially just to get Sheets in the DH spot), they're going to get exactly what they deserve. Which is dogshit OF defense and a likely injury to Eloy. Eloy needs to play some LF to keep him happy and so he can pretend in NL ballparks. But if hes the everyday LF next season, they Sox are fucking up.

ReyLo skipped at AAA: Spot start? Hug watch? stayed tuned
ReyLo pitched decent. Was surprised to see him not get optioned last night tho. He’s likely unavailable until the weekend. Guess Sox really want to see if they can make a reliever out of him.

I am fairly convinced Billy hits the IL when the roster crunch arrives. That way Sox don’t lose him and as soon as he’s needed again, he’s there. He’s most definitely not 100% healthy anyway.

White Sox Winner!!!
ReyLo was decent. He at least deserves that praise!

7/19 - Twins @ Sox Game 2 "He is Risen: The Return of Reynaldo"
Why? He’s a quite useful pen piece as is. I’m nowhere near in support of how they’ve used Kopech this year, but the dudes been unhittable. Only way I want him throwing AAA innings is if they option him to get a year back. And that ship sailed in May.

7/19 - Twins @ Sox Game 2 "He is Risen: The Return of Reynaldo"
Yeah. I mean I just don’t think he’s there yet. But that process needs to start soon and this was certainly a natural spot.

I don’t get it either. But Kopech would have been nothing more than an opener. 2 innings max. Not that Reylo is gonna go deeper.

7/19- Twins at Sox Gm 1, 4:10
Well that was a tough one.

Kopech isn't stretched out at all. He's not really in a position to start a game right now. I guess you could run him out there for 2 innings as the beginning of the stretching him out process. But I don't really care that Kopech isn't starting today - the bullpen would have for sure had to cover 5 innings in the 2nd game, which ideally is something you want to avoid. What I do hate is TLR not using Kopech for 2 innings yesterday. Again, the dude needs to get stretched out and 10 pitch single innings aren't going to get his innings up. He's pitched 36 innings so far this season, and we need to see that number more than double in the next 10 weeks. And burning Liam in that game was just dumb. That all said, don't really get why ReyLo is one the getting the start. But I guess if Kopech isn't able to go 3-4 innings, Sox are not exactly flush with options. I get the now or never attitude with ReyLo, but he makes $2.1M this year. He's almost certainly getting non-tendered in December unless he provides a miraculous 2nd half out of the pen, which simply just isn't happening. So its a real head scratcher for sure.

Fangraph's 2021 Trade Value Series
Agreed. I think the biggest issue with Moncada looking forward is he's no longer cheap after 21. He's well worth what he's going to get paid (plus some), but the days of getting monster value for a couple million are gone starting in 22 for Yoan. Certainly that is why he's not on the list in front of guys like Max Kepler. Yoan is a significantly better player, but Kepler is due much less moving forward.

Yoan and Vaughn in the HM category as well. Dropped Yoan from #7 last year to HM is notable.
