Internal Hitting Options (Split from Escobar thread)
Completely agree (probably don't need to cut Gonzalez yet tho), but I doubt we see it today. Also, where TF is Kopech? We need to get him back.

Heyman: Sox interested in someone on some team. Nightengale: *nods*
I said preseason Mcp candidates. Luis is easily one of the best handful of OF in the AL with ginormous upside.

To be fair, it’s a miracle the Sox have weathered this as well as they have. No team can really recover from losing 2 legit preseason MVP candidates and 33% of their lineup. Not to mention all the other injuries. No one is insulated for that.

The Offense - Near Term Actions
I think Yermin needs a couple weeks regardless. Let him get his confidence back in AAA. He has none right now.

Lynn hires new agency
I was all for extending extending Rodon to a cheap deal full of team options a couple years ago when he was recovering from injury. Posted about it a lot with a lot of people telling me I am crazy. Would have worked out pretty damn well for the Sox. Now? Extending Rodon would be crazy. He won't be cheap and chances he is both i) this good; and 2) healthy, are remote. Lynn on the other hand? He'll be 35 right after OD next year and is heading into an offseason with some uncertainties with the CBA. I'd be all over trying to get him to sign a similar deal to what he signed in TEX. 3/$30M won't get it done, but maybe something more like $12-13M AAV over the same term would? Probably not, but Hahn should be trying.

The Offense - Near Term Actions
Do they still do any form of "taxi squad" now that minor leagues are fully operating? My guess is not. Just thinking of possible reasons why they'd have gone with Gonzalez - really doesn't make any sense.

Top 10 Prospects (Trade Value)
I read here recently Cespedes' issue was almost sorted out and he'd be reporting to A+ or AA. Any update there? It is an absolute travesty this guy isn't playing. For all we know, we could be an option in the OF at this point if he had been getting game reps since April.

Micker Adolfo
I think that is one we may regret moving. I could see him (and have felt this way for awhile) turning into an above average corner OF offensively. He lost so much development time and losing 2020 was horrible for him to compound all the injuries. He is an absolute monster of a man. But yeah - if they're not willing to try him out now with the OFs they're running out there lately, his days on this 40 man are numbered.

Micker Adolfo
Pretty sure Micker is out of options after 2021 even with the Sox being granted a "bonus" option on him. With that being the case, I see no good reason we shouldn't give him a shot with all the injuries. He's either on the 2022 OD roster, or he's in another org. He would strike out a ton and I am sure it will be super ugly, but he's pretty close to a do or die spot in this org. I certainly would rather see him than Gonzalez.

The White Sox are not in a position to punt Vaughn's development in order to give Jake Lamb, Brian Goodwin or Leury Garcia at bats. Those guys are all who they are - below average players who are lucky to have MLB jobs right now. Andrew Vaughn is a consensus top 15-20 prospect in the game who is widely considered to have the potential to be an elite MLB hitter. IS he right now? No. Will be be buy August 2021? Probably not. But we already know who Lamb, Goodwin and Garcia are and it isn't pretty. Vaughn has enormous upside, especially as a LF/RF. I also don't think playing any of those guys over Vaughn puts the Sox in a better position to win now. If Eloy, Engel and Luis were healthy - I'd have no problem sending AV to AAA to get a year of control back and let him get his swing hitting bombs in a bandbox. But we just simply don't have that luxury at this stage, and I am dumbfounded that some posters (frankly just a couple) can't wrap their head around that. There are no better options than Vaughn in LF right now.

This team just called up Luis Gonzalez and is currently without their #1,#2,#3,#4, and #7 OFs on their depth chart and you want to send Vaughn down? Its obvious he's struggled against RHP - no denying that. But he's the LF, and due to all these injuries, its just the way its going to be. Vaughn learning to hit RHP at this level and continuing to mash LHP is far better than demoting him. Is it ideal? Nah. But such is life when the team is this banged up.

I am never taking at bats away from Vaughn for the likes at Good, Leury or Lamb. Ever.

Adam Engel Back to the IL - Hamstring
At least there is some semblance of upside there. There is none with Gonzalez. But obviously Gonzalez got the call with the ability to play CF. But you have Leury and Goodwin covering CF...how often is he actually going to play? I get we have a full 40 man, but anyone seems like a better option than Gonzalez.
-
Heyman: Sox interested in someone on some team. Nightengale: *nods*
I'd say Vaughn developing against RHP is right up there in terms of long-term importance for this club. Plus, with the current state of this OF, we're a LONG WAY away from Vaughn not being one of the best 2 options in the OF corners.
-
Adam Engel Back to the IL - Hamstring
There is one thing I am fairly certain of......Luis Gonzalez isn't the answer.

Adam Engel Back to the IL - Hamstring
Just brutal. Hope its more of a 10 day thing as opposed to 3 months again.

In any event, I am not too concerned about Beckham. Mendick for Escobar would be disappointing. That would be a very nice return for AZ for a dude that hasn't been that great last 1.5 seasons and is a FA in 3 months.
