The Dominican Relief Octavio Dotel has just come to an agreement for two years with the Chicago White Sox, according to a relative of the player entrusted this Thursday at Impactodeportivo.com.do.

El pacto es por 11 millones de dólares. The pact is $ 11 million.

La temporada pasada, Dotel tuvo un salario de cinco millones de dólares. The last season, Dotel had a salary of five million dollars.

Su récord del 2007 fue de 2-1, 11 juegos salvados y efectividad de 4.11 con Kansas City. His 2007 record was 2-1, 11 saves and effectiveness of 4.11 with Kansas City.

Felicidades. Congratulations.

Wow. My initial reaction to this is good. That's a pretty solid backend of the pen, even having injury considerations for Dotel. Its smart of Kenny to add bullpen arms when you are looking at the pen doing a lot more work this year versus recent years past.

Another good move to address the team's biggest weakness.

Yeah, MLB Trade Rumors has an article up from some Dominican reporting site as well about this.

Wow, he is going to make $1.5 Million more than Linebrink in 2008. I like the move though. If healthy he will be a solid addition.

773 K, 282 BB in 641 IP. That is nice.

Great signing, its only two years, so if it does not work out, no biggie. But if it does, sweet.

I also think its a solid move.... I could have sworn they were saying Dotel wanted to close. So thats why this is such a surprise.

I am sure he did, but someone else has to want him to close as well. Would you put your closing role trust in a guy with his injury history? As a set up man, that is one thing, as a closer that is quite another.

If we could bring in Bartolo now, I would think our team should be at least highly competitive this year. Our O is gonna be very good, D should be solid (although Swish worries me a little,) and the rotation should be about average and if our young guys step up could be solid and our pen should be good as well. At least the Sox will more fun to watch.

I still don't hink Ozzie will use his bullpen anymore than in past years. However, no matter which way you look at it, a good bullpen will make a good manager and a bad pen will make a bad manager.

Yeah, I like that pen as well, and agree on MacD. I hope they can trade him away for something. And with the utility type guys we have for the bench (Owens, Ozuna, Ramirez, Hall) the team could probably get away with a 4 man bench and a 7 man bullpen like that. If not, and if they get stuck with Uribe, then Haeger probably loses out.

So the Sox really now have a few pieces that they should move - Uribe, MacDougal, Crede... I wonder if there will be a few moves in ST.

Solid move, despite the recent injuries. Dotel's always been a name I've thrown around here in the past about wanting him on our staff. This is later than I ever expected it to happen, but I still like the signing. I see this being a very low risk, high reward type deal.

Yeah, 2006 was basically a wash with his surgery and last year was his first real year, so it is expected that he would not have pitched a lot of innings. This should be his first true healthy year with a rehab free off-season, so he could be back to shape and his workhorse self this year--at least I hope.

Unless Danks or Floyd suddenly show they can consistently get to the 7th inning, he's going to have to. I like this move a lot. You can never have too much pitching. KW needed to spend money on the bullpen and he did. I will congratulate him for that.

Moments ago the Score said we signed Dotel to a 2 year contract 5.5 million per year.

Jeeezus. 5.5 per? I like the move but that's more than I expected for a guy who's had the track record Dotel has the last few years..

They had the money to spend, so they spent it. It's better than them not spending any of it or $2 million for some s*** dude. I would rather they overpay a little for a guy who could be great than spend less for someone who could be good.

Paying for potential? KW probably didn't want to lose out on such a critical area of the team, similar to the higher price for Linebrink.

If Crede is moved ($5.1), then the payroll will almost be unchanged with this move.

Although I like the addition I'm wondering about that contract. If Kenny is willing to pay that much for a guy who's barely played recently then why not spend a lot for a proven, healthy commodity (Hunter, Rowand, etc)?

There is a huge difference between 2 yrs/$11 million and 5 yrs/$90 million.

Would you rather have Hunter for $15+ or Swisher, Dotel, Linebrink for $13?
