Jenksismyhero Posted May 8, 2014 Share Posted May 8, 2014 I think Breaking Bad ruined it for me. I want something to happen in the 50 minutes I'm watching, something I haven't seen before. Mad Men is just interesting conversations/scenes, which at times can (and has) been great, but too often it's just repeating past themes. Again, that entire episode arc with Don wasn't interesting. It was old and boring. We've literally seen him do this 50 times in the past. Hell, the previous episode he was at home drinking, sulking, at rock bottom, and then he "redeems" himself by accepting the lesser role at work. And we just went through the same crap again this episode. I enjoyed the hippy commune stuff, that was fun seeing Roger in that environment. I enjoyed Peggy's difficulty/unease with the situation with Don and the new account. Everything else has been done before and is no longer interesting. flavum Posted May 8, 2014 Share Posted May 8, 2014 In my opinion, what made Mad Men great was learning about the characters and their back stories as they went along. Once you know everything about the character, it gets a bit familiar to things that have already happened. It's still good. The writing is top-notch. The stories are interesting. I live with a guy that watches 60+ shows a week... and he claims it is within his top 3. Just so many different ways to go with that series. I knew what to expect from the books but that was so perfectly written and acted.
