  1. I would like his offensive profile a lot more in LF than RF to be honest, but we have the ghost of Benintendi for 3.75 more years.
  2. I get that most of these are inconsequential, but the scary thing to me is how nearly every move he’s made fizzled out incredibly quick. His whole “defense will help pitching” plan has been a complete debacle. He came into the season with zero depth as well. And yes, there’s absolutely a chance that Mena never adds velocity and also fizzles out, but I think we all know that the Sox were never going to get the most out of his arm. That should concern all of us.
  3. What’s the upside to Fletcher? Below average power and speed who can’t hit lefties as a corner outfielder.
  4. They’re playing? You could field a team full of five year olds and only have three less wins.
  5. Should be leading off if he’s going to be playing
  6. From what I heard, some of the smarter teams in baseball were interested in him at the deadline and during the offseason. Don’t forget that a lot of other teams didn’t care about the performance of Sox players last year due to awful environment and defense.
  7. I just don’t understand what they saw in Fletcher. Limited power, limited speed, can’t hit lefties at all….is this really the corner outfielder you want to give playing time for the next 3-4 years? If they thought Mena was never going to throw hard enough, that’s fine to trade him, but it sure seemed like they put too much value on someone they could play right away. Anyone with a brain knew this team wasn’t contending this year.
  8. Then why was Thorpe the main trade chip back for Cease? Can’t have it both ways. I also happen to think Mena has more in the tank.
  9. So the 24 year old in A ball with a 4.70 ERA is doing well, but the 21 year old in AAA with a 3.75 ERA is a “work in progress”? You Getz apologists are trying way too hard.
  10. Sox went for quantity over quality. Other teams were absolutely interested in him, but Getz used it as a trade to fill roster spots at the big league level.
  11. Wasting 4 million on one of the worst players in baseball was a really bad idea. The Braves trade sucked as well, as they didn’t get a single interesting piece.
  12. Don’t trade one of your best pitching prospects for a 26 year old, light hitting platoon outfielder
  13. And promised he could build a competitive team with low salaried, defensive-minded players
  14. But he did such a good job developing players!
