  1. Past hour

  2. Joe Rock was DFA'd yesterday . A's claimed him. That's an open 40 man spot.
  3. He's being paid like a 2 WAR player and I think that's what the Sox expected of him when they signed him. But then he got the hamate injury which drained his power and he also lost a lot of his athleticism and could no longer play the OF. If he was hitting like he is now and played above average defense in LF, that's probably close to a 2 WAR player. Unfortunately for us, he's basically unplayable in the outfield and is now a DH who's a league average hitter. It's not unplayable, but it's also not really worth what he's being paid. You could argue that him being a good hitter in the clutch adds some value (WAR is context-less, after all). Benintendi's 1.09 WPA is around the likes of Randy Arozarena, Shea Langeliers, Rafael Devers, and Sam Antonacci. All of those guys are 20-40% better than league average while Beni is just an average hitter. So you can maybe make some sort of argument that he's producing like a 120 wRC+ hitter. In that case, he might be worth maybe 1 WAR instead of the replacement level player that he is.
  4. Sandlin pitched on Saturday and would have to go on three days rest to pitch even the Wednesday game. I can’t see them doing that. I think he becomes a serious option for a rotation spot as soon as next week.
  5. Pretty sure we should hear something today. The 17th was supposed to be decision day with him
  6. My bad, making the gamethread at the same time!
  7. Both Sam and Antman?
  8. The Chicago White Sox go for 4 in a row while yours truly tries to keep his perfect Gamethread streak alive and go 5 for 5, Let's Go Sox!
  9. To be completely honest, I think asking him simply to be a league replacement player would be bare minimum for me.
  10. Absurd how? I just think you have enough positional versatility that you can keep Mune, Chase, Colson, Vargas, Roch, Caleb and Antman and play matchups and give guys days off without rostering a Beni full time DH type.
  11. That's about right but I don't think pushing Thorpe is in the cards yet. Sandlin is a better option. We may all want to see what Thorpe can do but he needs more reps and endurance.. He knows a lot about pitching and can look good falling out of bed . How many times has Sandlin been yo-yo'd this season.
  12. Fair enough. What numbers do you think would be good enough to justify $15 million a year AAV?
  13. I think you could put Sandlin in the mix. Cannon too as a long shot. He's pitched better than usual lately though still prone to too many center cut pitches that result in HR's, but he's cut way down on his walks.
  14. When he hits a go-ahead home run in the World Series this year, he will be worth every penny of the $75 mil.
  15. This is absurd. Totally with you on arb years though.
  16. @JoeCredeYes do the thing before the board Cubs fan does the other thing.
  17. I mean, he is DHing because he is such a bad defender, his WAR probably looks better because they won’t put a glove on him. Again, I’m happy with what he has done this season but if I could do things over this would not be a contract I would have given
  18. If we walk into 2027 with a rotation of Skubal, Skenes, Burke, Castillo, Martin / Kay and a starting 9 that incorporates Sato with Bonemer lurking… I’m shitting my pants and retaining joy while doing so. Nothing in life would bring me down. 😆
  19. Good point - but I wonder how much WAR is a good metric to describe his performance considering how much of his playing time has been at DH. I certainly didn't expect back to back 20 HR seasons from him the past two years.
  20. 100% not worth his contract. Waste of money. Glad the Sox are finding a way to make him useful though.
  21. Today

  22. This year has been really nice from AB, but he has been worth 0.7 WAR over four years while playing for the biggest contract this organization has ever issued. Thanks for 26 but I am not even close to admitting he has been worth the contract
  23. No Swanson for them. Weakens their D a ton.
  24. I think an interesting topic for conversation for the next couple of years will be whether Beni was actually worth his contract. It could be that he actually is.
  25. Great signing by Hahn.
