  1. Past hour
  2. Yeah, I have a tendency not to ignore the bad stuff So did his arm just start hurting at the start of the 2nd start? Only went 2/3 an inning. Was it 100% healthy for the start 3 before the IL? Selection bias is always ripe at soxtalk! If we exclude the starts that Soxtalk decided shouldn't count, he had a 4.97 FIP, 5.23 K/9 and 4.13 BB/9. Abysmal.
  3. you mean the two starts right before his elbow injury?😂
  4. he's definitely the first pitcher with elite command to struggle in his first 9 games
  5. I’m not expecting much from Thorpe this year, but I do think he’s interesting in the long run. Great news about Teel. I didn’t think it was as serious as an Achilles tear, but I also didn’t think we’d see him again this season.
  6. A guy that got some mention here.
  7. He will need more than just a return of low 90s velocity. He needs another tick or two on the radar gun otherwise his margin for error is slim. It also remains to be seen if his command and the elite changeup remain intact. Sometimes after TJS, some pitchers gain a bit of velocity. If he can get up to 92-95 instead of 89-92, it would be very helpful.
  8. I'm getting used to Ray Ray arguments now. He always leaves some key fact out.
  9. By any name, Boston Smith is making impression, impact in...BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — In order to start making a name for himself, Boston Smith first considered the name for himself. His actual first name is Noah, but as he explored playing baseball beyond high schoo
  10. "I have a bad feeling about this" Panican @ron883 should stop trusting his feelings but be relieved.
  11. It is with a heavy heart that I retire ‘Lenyn Sosa Scared of Ball’. Maybe a Blue Jays fan can put it to good use. Another contender for avatar was ‘John and Gordon Share a Glizzy’.
  12. Kumar Rocker is coming off a tough outing (5.2 IP, 7 ER) vs. Houston, but was pitching to a solid ~3.5 ERA until mid June. 90 innings and counting is a career high for him, so the Rangers are probably hoping the break helps him bounce back. His slider is very good and he throws it 38% of the time. It has a 40% whiff rate and just a .182 average against. Everything else (sinker/cutter/4seam/changeup) is vulnerable to getting hit pretty hard. Velo is a bit below average at ~94mph. Pretty strong splits, LHB are putting up an .857 OPS against him. TEX pen is still limited; their top 2-3 are fresh to protect a late lead, but they’ll have some tough choices to make if tied or trailing. Old friend Tyler Alexander is available, so we’ll likely see him.
  13. He was a top 70 prospect whose velocity dropped a tick or two when he first came up. If his velocity returns, his command and changeup along will make him a valuable SP.
  14. Nice Zombie Meidroth avatar and yes I know the origin of the picture but the artist is a mystery.
  15. This was only announced close to an hour ago. Perhaps we need a new title or another thread informing our community. I only see an announcement on The Tribune's website . There should be tweets out there parroting the Tribune's Lamond Pope article. My uninformed guess is 4 to 6 weeks.
  16. The typical thing to do is move him up little by little over those starts. But keep in mind the last time Thorpe threw a competitive pitch was 10 days short of 2 full years ago, July 31, 2024. That's 720 days. No need to rush him.
  17. I completely agree with: Quero is the obvious choice. Plus, he has so much talent. Hopefully, he can fix himself with a 2nd chance.
  18. I'm partial to Indian Standard Time since the time adjustment is to the half hour rather than the hour. Or Calcutta Time which was determined to be 5 hours, 53 minutes and 20 seconds ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. Don't even get me started on Madras Time. Speaking of India, I feel like Kumar Rocker has been in MLB for a decade but I've never actually seen him pitch.
  19. Today
  20. And just to be clear, back in 2024 when he was not yet scheduled for any kind of surgery, Thorpe said when he went on the IL that his elbow was hurting him in his last two starts and he had tried to pitch through it. Nobody is required to look at that and crown him the next Cy Young as there was plenty to nitpick during his healthy run of starts. But his numbers really got killed by those last two starts when, by his own admission, he was pitching through elbow pain that ultimately stole 2 seasons from him. Maybe he'll never recapture his old self, maybe his old self was always going to run into a buzzsaw even if healthy, who knows. But I wouldn't rule out that the one-time widely acclaimed prospect might actually be good.
  21. Getz hates Sandlin
  22. Let me do what I can to help Schultz again tonight. I’ll make the same doofus pregame comments I made his last start, so he can again prove me wrong. I’ll go a little bigger this time: Why the hell are we pitching Schultz tonight?? It should be Sandlin. Sandlin is clearly better with a higher floor and ceiling. C’mon Venable, go with Sandlin.
  23. Goodman would cost a ton.
  24. Seems to me Quero is the right move now. He has shown ability in the past. Even this season he got a few big hits, but mostly he knows the pitching staff, and it is a continuity factor. A familiar face and just keep pushing. I know someone will throw up his stats and say no way. All true he has mostly sucked this season, and his defense is bad too. All things considered a trade, or a signing are risky too and internally Lee must be poison. So, bring Quero back. Stay the course.
  25. Are all those starts going to be with the Dash? I would like to see a couple there, then up to AA for one start. If all is going well, get him starting as soon as possible in Charlotte. Let’s try to (again if all is going well) fast track him up to AAA. Also, knowing nothing about his defense, I like to see Boston Smith being used at catcher with Charlotte as soon as possible also.
  26. He's a 23 year old who has never been over 75 IP as a pro. He sure doesn't have top value.
