I looked at Urquidy for possible help at #5 with Noah scuffling, not at #1/2 for Martin.

Freddy Peralta to Rays
Interesting the Jays held onto the likes of Bieber and Bassitt…who pitched well last night. Dodgers kept Lauer and demoted Sheehan. Orioles traded Ward/Rutschman but kept Roger’s and extended Y.Cano.

Bubic on the shelf, too.

"Ken Rosenthal" and "big" in the same sentence is confusing me. Little Ken knows how to keep his 'sources' happy with propagandistic articles like this. I think pretty much every baseball fan knows why teams like the Rays and Guardians are consistently good despite low payrolls, but financial parity simply does produce a more competitive environment. Frankly, this whole idea goes out the window if MLB contracts were structured like they are in every other sport, ie it takes less than a decade for a player to start earning his market value. The small market teams can keep up at the moment because the best players in the game haven't had a chance to reach free agency. That doesn't make it acceptable that 2 or 3 teams are the only options for the top tier free agents. That's been a plague on this sport since the early days when every good player just went to the Yankees.

Doyle did have a 779 ops the second half of 2025, but then everything really fell apart this season…

His wife had a miscarriage early in the 2025 season. Doyle took some time off to spend time with his family, but regrets not spending more time with them. Seven days wasn't enough. However, the off-season helped him a lot by giving him time for his family. “I regret how quickly I rushed back into the season,” Doyle said. “Maybe I should’ve taken more time with my wife, to be there for her and my family. She’s super-extroverted -- the complete opposite of me. But opposites attract. She’s my rock, and she’s a rock star. “The offseason was a good time to catch up on family time and be there…” Rockies' Brenton Doyle Ready to Rebound After Challenging ... Yep. We’re undefeated against the Red Sox this year when facing a righty starter.

Wouldn't judge a person going through either (miscarriage or your scenario) but I think the two are a little different! Tray rubs dirt on his miscarriages and gets back up.

I'm going through IVF with my wife right now, hasn't been successful for about a year and a half and it's certainly taxing and I have my wife by my side most days. I can't imagine how painful losing a child at any age would be. There's this sense in the IVF circles that once the child is born you can relax a little so to spreak, but then you hear stuff like this where tragedy can strike at any moment. To say someone should put that all aside to focus on playing a child's game is a pretty brutal take.

Haha not at all, but Martin has been brutal. Woulda been nice to get a league average starter at the TDL.

Ken Rosenthal, on the big picture: “The dirty little secret of a salary cap and floor system is that it would not guarantee small-market teams success. Many would need to develop more of a killer instinct, an instinct the Dodgers demonstrate time and again.”

Are you excited about Jose Urquidy coming to the White Sox?

Sox acquire Brenton Doyle - trade Adams and Carlos Vielma (SS)
My oldest son is getting ready to start college. He just found out recently that one of his football teammates and classmates at Brother Rice died in a car accident. The kid hadn’t even turned 18 yet. I can’t imagine how the parents must feel right now. I know I wouldn’t be able to focus on my job, and I damn sure wouldn’t care about the game of baseball for a long while, if ever.

Looks like two good 5 inning starts for Urquidy so far but he’s not striking enough batters out.

I'm thinking that tonight might be our best chance for a win, unless Castillo reverts to past form.
