Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan
Maybe I just can’t read your writing style tonight and am a little too hyped up on our Sox losing a tough one today. 😆

My first impression of this trade is not to do cartwheels. However, Getz and this staff have picked up some great reclamation projects that have worked out so Im hoping they've seen something with Castillo that they can address and turn him into a quality starter again. Also, $25 million may not be a huge salary next year. Assuming a deal gets done, there will definitely be a salary floor. Teams like the Dodgers and the Yankees will have to trim payroll but at least 8-10 teams will probably have to add 30-50 million in payroll to reach the floor. As a result, you'll see some contracts that will look worse than this. In summary, I'll wait to grade this deal but im giving our staff the benefit of the doubt.....they've earned that.

Hello, reason.

This is crazy. He saw the same amount of righties as lefties last year. This year he has seen 80 more lefties than righties.

Hope you are right

The deadline isn’t until Monday…asking prices are always going to be inflated until the clock winds down.

He isn’t providing capital in a deal like this. He’s the guy you’ll be looking at when they extend Mune this offseason for a franchise shattering contract.

"On This Day in Sports History: July 31, 2009, Jake Peavy Was Traded After Cementing Himself as One of the Greatest Pitchers in Padres History. The Padres traded 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy to the White Sox in exchange for Aaron Poreda, Clayton Richard, Adam Russell, and minor leaguer Dexter Carter." C.Richard had a longer career than many expected...but a nothing burger overall in terms of prospect cost, except wasting picks on Poreda and Ring.

Not to pick on you but this couldn’t be more false

Skubal to Dodgers
This move has nothing to do with payroll, as even the Brewers were willing to take on his remaining salary.

And Jose took some time in the year he was acquired to put it together under Cooper until he became a pivotal piece of the 2005 championship. I could see Castillo having shades of that path with a shorter runway / quicker turn around possible since he isn’t NEARLY as much of a project.

Wild times. The Dodgers are like the mlb team you create on franchise mode in the show and you set the mode settings to be able to acquire anyone you want whenever you want however you want

I'm not buying the catcher want. I think that's just speculation not based in any fact. Bringing in a new catcher could be disastrously disruptive to the pitching staff and negatively outweigh any offensive benefits. I'm guessing the Sox are content with what they have despite the terrible offense.

Also in power pitchers it's usually command that goes first and then velo.

The evolution of Castillo throughout the years is kind of crazy. He went from having one of the best change ups in baseball to having one of the worst.

A wizard and a leprechaun on the same pitching staff.....that would have to be a first in MLB history.

As fathom hinted at, lefties have been killing him and this is the second year of this trend really getting exposed. This is the 3rd year of the trend in general, as he lost the change up when he moved to Seattle and that was his out pitch to lefties. The trend has been getting worse every year, and this year he's seen 40%+ more lefties than righties.

How many times did we hear “Robert only makes 20 million, him being on the roster doesn’t impact other moves”…only for it to absolutely impact things.

I will say this though, everyone was 98% sure a lockout was coming December 1, those odds are now up to 100%. And I'm willing to go out on a limb and say reglar season games will be missed next spring. How many and how long? No one knows but I don't think this is going to be settled quickly (especially with JR on the labor committee advising Manfred.)

Targeting top of the line starters or elite bullpen arms with control in the trade market is EXACTLY how they have to operate if ownership isn’t willing to buy those assets in free agency yet. I don’t understand your point.

IDK, but he does have a pronounced platoon split (albeit at a similar level that he has always had)
