Excellent, right on the money.

9/19 Sox vs. Tigers 1:10PM CT
Who is starting? Who is even available in the bullpen? Sox used what, seven pitchers yesterday? If they play this game, it may be really ugly.

Burke vs. Jobe Many (most?) seem to have thrown in the towel, but we still hold a playoff spot with 8 games to go. Call it optimism or delusion, but I still believe. Put the pedal to the metal and lets grab the division back and the 2 seed. It's go time! Looks to be a wet one, but i'd imagine they are going to do everything they can do get this one in.

Besides the last 3 weeks it has been for the most part great. The funniest thing was the leaping up and down Met reliever.

And obviously Hagen Smith the biggest recent revelation, which is a double edged sword with the glaring need for starting pitchers

Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan
What stuff? He has nothing. Have you watched him pitch? Movement is down. Velocity is down. Control is bad. He just sucks and is likely cooked. He's going to be 34 next season. Believing you can "fix" a 34 year old pitcher who has been declining the last couple seasons is the ultimate in stupidity. He's old. How many pitchers improve in their mid 30's?

“The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire

Honestly impressive what their bullpen has done considering their workload.

Some posters mentioned it, is Castillo so awful that you can't even rely on him to get you 3 or 4 innings and not give up 6 runs after the Sox were up 8-2? At the very least, give the BP a break, can't even be an innings eater at this point? Such an indictment on Getz, made the team worse with his tradeline "additions".

We never had the horses for a marathon that is a 162 game season. The offense still is the top scoring offense in the AL, though most of the damage was done pre All Star break, they've been pretty bad recently, scoring a bunch of runs here and there and not scoring enough way too many times. Hitting with RISP has been abysmal too. Mune fell off a cliff, along with Kolson and Braden, the bullpen started shaky but became a strength up until a month ago when it started to show wear and tear from over usage which comes back to my first point, and baseball pundits were saying it pre ASB, the starters would need to go deeper into games to spell their BP arms, they never did because our starting rotation is ass and Getz tradeline acquisitions were complete and utter trash and apparently no relief from the farm system. What started as a feel good story, first franchise to have two straight 100 plus loss seasons and comes back to win their division now seems unlikely and the takeaway will be the late season collapse, due to the fact we have no starting pitching, we were never gonna actually compete for a title though, not with these hacks we have as starters. Just for comparison sake, take any one of our four 2005 postseason starters, Contreras, MB, Garland or Freddie Garcia and stick him in our current starting rotation and that one pitcher would be our ace, easily...also not having a true closer is screwing us rn. This is mostly on Getz though, Will isn't a good in game manager but to be fair, not a whole lotta options to pick from from our pitchers.

Just a devastating loss, the Sox have come back all year but when your starters can’t get to the 5th inning with a bullpen that is cooked this could be the season.

Except when he was learning they were in their 2013-2016 window with TWO WS teams. Something the White Sox have taken 67 years to accomplish for their part.

An ominous future...
The mlb fan version of Thucydides' middle income trap for growing second and third world economies... as that's actually what billionaires and deca millionaires are compared to the mainstream fans
-
Fire Chris Getz
Isn't it true they haven't developed a single reliever internally...that was actually a signed White Sox draft pick? Other than Pallette for the Guardians? That the only correct answer now is Hagen Smith...a 1-5 draft pick, kind of speaks volumes about getting your relievers from lower in the draft/s.

Both.

He should be fired but won't, not this soon. JR doesn't like to admit he f#$%^& up. I just assume there were issues, restrictions, situations behind the scenes that at least help to explain what happened although what those could be I can't say. My hope is that if the Sox completely fall apart the final week, not even get four more wins for a winning seasons that the mainstream media will hold him to account.

Venable on bullpen usage...
Venable will blow through them by the fourth inning, even if Burke is throwing a no-hitter! 😄

The Sox came into Friday’s game ranked last in the majors in September in average (.207) and slugging percentage (.357) and over the last 10 games hit .179 (15-for-84) with runners in scoring position. Sox fans booed Venable as he came out to remove his relievers, showing their frustration over the team’s recent downturn. https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/09/18/chicago-white-sox-will-venable-bullpen/

that's often an issue in modern MLB baseball too many throwers but so few pitchers
-
Venable on bullpen usage...
So, basically, you have ... two pitchers available tomorrow? lol

wasn't a good farm director............and still not a decent farm.........one can spout the ranking but they are not accurate The reality is Getz is not good but got lucky. Didn't he also start out in a habitual losing organization? Hopefully he's gotten over his Royal envy.
