It goes to the quantitative analytics of 2026. Is it better to play for one run, or is it better to play for the big inning? The numbers seem to say it is the big inning, and so far the Ryan Fuller philosophy with the hitters seems to go this way. It's kind of the same thing with going for it on 4th down in the NFL. The odds of expected scoring go up when you go for it more often, but the public glare of failure puts a lot of pressure on teams to go the less productive ways. Thinking of Ben Johnson gifting Carolina a TD on Sunday by going for it on 4th and 1 inside his own 25, statistically the expected scores outcome no doubt was higher if he went for it. But the actual results may vary.

There are absolutely ways this CAN fall apart, but judging by the agencies and cooperation between the directly affected parties, the odds are pretty good that this happens. What form will it take by the time we get there is probably the biggest question, but with Ishbia cooperating with Amtrak and the like, I am not sure what could stop it, except maybe a Worldcom/Enron type financial meltdown.

They have to beat Griffin on Tuesday....up to Davis Martin. Monday would seem to give the second best odds but Gavin Williams throws gas just like the Pirates' youngsters. Wednesday early day game against Messick and maybe Kay or Fedde or Castillo or Hagen....God knows. They are unlikely to pitch Sandlin on short rest, or bring up Thorpe for what could be the most important game of the season.

Problem is I don't even know what "showing up" looks like with this unit. It's just bad. Sweat is a "good" player but nothing more. The rest of the D-Line is below average. The linebackers are OK but in 2026 that unit isn't really that important anyway. Jaylon looked like a LB playing CB yesterday. Stevenson got burned a bunch. Thought Thieneman looked really good, but that's not going to be enough. I think this is going to be a situation (at least I hope) where in 3 years, we're going to look at the defensive depth chart from Week 1 this year and see new names at every position outside of Thieneman, and say "Can you believe this is what they were rolling out there?" But, as bad as the defense looked, the offense looked just as good. They could do some special things this year, but I fear this could also just be a maddening season, and there are going to be games they put up 40 and lose.

I would bat Mune 9th. The only good thing he has done during this slump has been getting walks. Grichuk should be hitting 3rd or 4th.

It's hard to be optimistic at this point from what we have seen lately. BUT this team has a flair for the dramatic. I do think you have to put your hottest hitters in the line-up for the whole series (Yes, I'm talking about Grichuk). The demise of Mune is baffling and just doesn't make sense. If the baseball gods owe us anything I would wish for Mune to get hot the last 13 games of the season. Here's to hope..............

I agree on the teams of the past not having guys as big, fast and athletic as the modern day player but somehow the game just isn’t as good and as you said it is what it is. No one is forcing me to watch but I still love the White Sox.

It's the state of Illinois. All hands will be out to receive something. In the end Ishbia will get tired of dealing with the city/county/state political disaster and lease the land for a medical facility or high rise condos. Amtrack is putting their lot in Bridgeport and they can protest all they want. Illinois is just not good at playing politics anymore.

I can’t believe I have to say this, but the 2005 and the 1959 (lol) teams would get destroyed by today’s pitching and we’d be cleverly inserting K’s into a lot more names. The game has changed. It is what it is. But that doesn’t mean I’m not frustrated by the Sox inability to make adjustments.

Here’s the way I see it: Yes, it’s unfortunate and embarrassing for the organization that there’s a history of appalling behavior among staff. Yes, Shirley’s resignation does not magically undo what those affected experienced. Yes, sadly, I do think this kind of thing continues to go on across the league, whether unreported or without repercussions. BUT at least Shirley is no longer one of them. It’s one less shitty scumbag that people have to be subjected to.

Well, anyone doing that in a corporate environment these days would probably be shitcanned pretty quickly.

The whole point of growing up is to actually grow up. We should be proud to get better. We are did stupid things as kids, and the worst of them I am glad to have learned from.

It’s just tremendously weird that there is a large subset of people who openly opine for the better days when they could openly insult people in work spaces and it was fine. I don’t come to work for that. I don’t want to do that to other people. Just doesn’t make sense

It wasn’t massive, it was definitely higher, up around the top of the letters but still at the knees and not any wider.

Yet the MLB took no action and Clevinger didn’t lose his job. Perhaps there may have been more evidence of the accusations against Shirley. The White Sox apparently didn’t treat Shirley with zero tolerance considering there was a previous allegation against him in 2022.
