“The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
In the past, the neighborhoods (Bridgeport, Armour Square, Bronzeville) were always limited on what could be negotiated on the 35th and Shields site, because Reinsdorf had ultimate veto power. Jim Thomspon said so himself -- as he mentioned in his oral history, his plan was always to have mixed retail/housing on the old Sox Park site, but Reinsdorf had final say as the site's only tenant. And JR wanted parking revenues over development: https://johnowens711.substack.com/p/is-this-what-sox-park-was-supposed

Upcoming Free Agent Signing + Labor Contract Uncertainty
It ended March 10th last time and they missed no games
-
Upcoming Free Agent Signing + Labor Contract Uncertainty
The last one ended on 3/10 and they pushed back opening day. Greedy players won't allow it to end earlier. They don't care about fans who schedule vacations around spring training and opening day. Both sides have equal respect for the fans who make this possible. And those same fans just decided which side's s%*# smells better.

Upcoming Free Agent Signing + Labor Contract Uncertainty
Memorial Day weekend when the 60 game clauses in the national TV deals automatically kick in and the owners lose negotiating power regarding their desire to lock in new deals.

Upcoming Free Agent Signing + Labor Contract Uncertainty
Only reason I think it will be March 1st or so is because these greedy POS won't want the revenue loss of cancelled games. Doesn't matter how much it will screw over the players' schedules.

I read he was still facing disciplinary actions from the NFL. Even if anyone would buy his story it really shows a serious misunderstanding of the optics. I would hope Green Bay fans would protest.

Upcoming Free Agent Signing + Labor Contract Uncertainty
The lockout will end on like March 1st and you're going to see a crazy run in the first few days, similar to when NBA FA opens I'd imagine. Some guys will be left hanging (and teams) and the Sox will have to be prepared for a billion scenarios. Not going to be easy, luckily we don't have any real core players to re sign, unless you think Fedde or Grich or Newsome is a core guy, I don't. I think Grich is going to get overpaid and go back to just being like a 1 WAR player. Fedde I'd welcome back, same with Newsome, but they aren't core guys.

When the choice is siding with JR or the players, it's an easy choice. But, still they are both shitting on the fans.

I’m simply riding the vibes here, truth isn’t necessary- Sox picked 13th, Detroit 7th, Cleveland 8th, Cubs 17th in early 2027 ESPN projections
Sox were 29th or 30th last year, so my grains of salt are massive.- Sox picked 13th, Detroit 7th, Cleveland 8th, Cubs 17th in early 2027 ESPN projections
Staying healthy instead of blowing out their arms would be a great start.- “The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
There's no other site as good as the proposed one. It's right near the old one, massive and not used currently. Finding a different site is easier said than done.- An ominous future...
https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/billion-dollar-reason-mlb-team-103000194.html Still, the growth has paled in comparison with the way that team values have skyrocketed in the NFL (up 308% since 2016) and the NBA (352%) during the same decade, prompting a sense that baseball owners are leaving some money on the table. The average MLB team is also valued at seven times annual revenues, much lower than the average multiple for the NFL (13.4x), the NBA (13.1x), the NHL (8.9x) or MLS (8.9x), indicating that investors are less optimistic about future growth in baseball. If MLB teams could command a revenue multiple in line with their peers in hockey and soccer, it would translate to $800 million in additional value per franchise on average at 2025's revenue levels. Of course, a salary cap isn't the only reason that other leagues have been better investments than MLB. The NFL and the NBA, for instance, both generate billions more in centralized media rights revenue that is distributed among their franchises each year, whereas MLB teams are more dependent on local TV deals, which have become less dependable after the collapse of the country's largest regional sports network operator, Main Street Sports Group. I found that a bit Cringy. Guy does something very cool and you kind of s%*# on him.- “The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
Excellent observation. So far, I've seen denial, anger, and bargaining. You're right, they should have been trying to promote to ISFA and the Sox an entertainment district at least when the 78 proposal was announced in January 2024. Perhaps much earlier than that as they knew the lease was ending in 2029 and we've all seen what most other teams around the league are doing around their ballparks. I don't know if that would have worked, but it seems too late now to start scrambling with suggestions for site redevelopment. Trying to convince Amtrak to select an alternative site might have a better chance of success than threats of lawsuits since it's been clearly settled law that railroads can do these kind of things on their own property.- World Series GameThread
The Brewers 3 seasons since Counsell left: good, better, best. Also, not too surprising he would make that claim since Counsell was friends with Parkins’ older brother who passed away. A little bias with that and being a Cubs fan- Official NBA 25-26 Thread
But the valuations worked out for him. Cuban bought the Mavs for about $285 million in 2000 and sold his stake in the team for $3.5 billion in 2024, according to ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania. But Cuban says it's a bit more than that. "$4.3 [billion]," he said regarding what he made from the Mavericks deal. "Yeah." And he hasn't left the business. In July he joined Harbinger Sports Partners, a $750 million private equity fund that took a minority stake in MLB's Las Vegas Athletics and uses predictive analytics to size up a team's ticket prices, sponsorships and local demand: the "Sports 2.0" playbook he ran in Dallas, now sold to investors. yahoo.com/sports - 2026 NFL thread
