Or JR didn't allow him to? Fegan with some interesting notes, comments on Martin: "Discussion around Davis Martin still sounds like a pitcher trying to manage a physical issue of some stripe. "Your mechanics, the way you feel physically, the way they feel mentally is going to change throughout the year and you have to figure out how to find the best version of yourself, and some of these guys are being challenged to do that for the first time, or being challenged in ways that they haven't had to find solutions for before," Venable said. "There's some mechanical stuff that he's working on, some things just as far as whether it's grips, tapping into some shapes. Also just physically, this guy has pitched so much this year and he's done so well and really carried a load. That's going to take a toll, and he's got to figure out as his body changes how to make sure that he can keep his mechanics and every thing in line." Martin has a 6.83 ERA with a 14.4 percent strikeout rate since June 1, and the White Sox have gone 4-8 in those 12 outings." Like Southside posted the pitching staff may have reached their limits overall.

Was the price too high for a rental though??

I don't think it's that comparable. this team at least addressed its issues

Probably should be letting these young pitchers continue to work as starters in the minors

Would have been nice if the Reds would have traded Stephenson and not even to us just anywhere else....he killed us in the two losses.
-
Kyle Teel ankle injury
Nah, the real question is where is Kyle Teel going to play
-
8/13 Reds at Sox 12:10 PM
Yep, bad look to be short on pitching 10 days after the deadline.

Like I said then, Chris Getz is not playing for 2026.

Price was high. I get not going for it. Also sucks to be going through this right now down the stretch.

That was crazy that they had like no one to start game 3
-
8/13 Reds at Sox 12:10 PM
Feels like a team that needed to add another SP at the deadline.

Shane Smith pitched (well) today. So there's one viable option to cover tomorrow's game not available. Of course, I'm not sure that the Sox would have felt comfortable bringing him up even for a quasi-emergency start with how his last couple times out looked. Noah and Sandlin can't be called up without a major league injury. Thorpe pitched yesterday. Urquidy will have 4 days rest tomorrow off of a 2 inning start (don't think he was pulled for performance reasons). Cannon has been pitching surprisingly well but he pitched on Tuesday, so not an option for immediate help. Not sure if there might be someone else I'm not thinking of or if they might try to cobble together another bullpen game. Urquidy seems like the guy if they are going to bring up a starter. And you'd probably send Tanner down.

Two of the worst losses of the year. Starting to feel like a young team that doesn't have enough pitching or composure.

Great post. Was just going to post that this is reminding me of the 2020 team that ran out of starters for the playoffs even in the shortened season.

I'm not blaming the offense but they had chances to score more....bad bit of situational hitting by Mune with no outs and a pitcher not throwing strikes.

Like I said, I really not worried long term about them in general. The big thing I worry about with Colson is if he is healthy. I do have flash backs to last year when he completely cratered, and we never really got told why, I guess subconsciously I just attributed it to his back, but I guess who knows.

He should've gotten yanked as soon as he walked his third batter, like you said, nothing close to strikes. Then he hits the batter to force in the 9th run which ultimately killed us.

I would guess MacDougal is sent down after that debut?

I was so hoping for Vargas to be a core member on this team, same with Colson. I never believed in Peters being a long term piece.

Sure, but when 2 of your best hitters give you nothing, it's a lot harder to win.

“The 78” is alive and well for the Sox, Bears are 'advancing' Hammond development
Ah, I missed that.

After today he's got a 6.94 ERA since June 1.

Our pitching was bad today. Too many gopher balls and walks. Bullpen management was not the best. Left MacDougal in one batter too long. IMO.

True. Amazing how the AL is mostly a pile of s%*# outside of the frugal Rays.

I mentioned it around the deadline, but this has kind of a 2020/2012 vibe where the pitching was extended past where their talents and abilities were, and it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of these guys had struggles. The offense I am not as worried about, as there are some definite boom and bust guys in a bust cycle. The pitching just has so many guys either at their limits, or regressing to their historic norms that this shouldn't be a surprise.
