Pereira spent so much time on the IL I think the risk of another injury forced Getz to find someone who could play CF. Hays wasn't ready and he really isn't the answer in CF. We were joking that Pereria tripped on the team plane and knocked himself out.

Plus now they'very added Bubic as well into the bullpen mix.

Castillo > Fedde Brazoban > Dominguez Bart > Quero Doyle < Pereira Not sure how the team is worse. They improved 3 roster spots, and maybe they trust Doyle's defense over Pereira's as a CF platoon. I want to say that play on Sunday, flyball to CF, Pereira didn't dive, or block the ball that dropped in front of him. Monty was backing him up, but that may have made the decision for them.

I give it a C-. After calming down, the only trade that really annoys me is Luis Castillo. What should have been a salary dump, Getz sends Seattle one of our more interesting prospects, and who plays a position in which he was the only interesting prospect. The best trade was the Bart trade. Otherwise, it shows that our farm still has a long way to go.

How many more innings does Schultz have in him? Seems like they will have to rely on Thorpe/Smith more.

Agreed. Home games at that park will help him as well with his flyball tendencies. He actually pitched pretty well over the past month. I won’t miss the walks however.

Getz got bent over and absolutely reamed. I think other GMs know he is a total chump. Only decent trade is for the reliever. I'd rather trade for rentals that are good than players who suck and are under control.

I thought they focused on SP, a reliever, and a RH OF bat. They need two starters, but I believe the asking prices turned them back to Thorpe and Schultz.

Pereira, hits double and homerun, next game DFA. Junior Perez, two run home run, next game demoted to AAA. The fringe outfielders better be careful with how well they play lol.

I expect him to be pretty helpful for the M's pen actually. Think this trade will do both arms some good mentally in getting away from situations where they were getting pushed out of the roles they were "supposed to" have coming into the season. Ser can go over there and be a fine 7th inning guy instead of a shaky closer, Castillo can come here and start normally instead of being put in uncomfortable piggyback spots.

B. I think both pitching additions will be beneficial, Doyle is excellent for his stellar defense but a work in progress on the offense side, another plus is he is not concussed. Bart is insurance. I don't care about the money or the players we flipped.

There is no universe where Brenton Doyle is the best return you can get for Mason Adams. Seems like a very poor return on prospect capital. I feel like there was a better option than Brazobán (who I don't mind personally). I also would have preferred to pick up the single best asset that the combined value of all the prospects we traded could have netted than spreading it out on mediocre upgrades. The way I judge the trade deadline is what would have been the cost to get these guys if they were free agents? The answer to that is not a lot, absolutely not the prospect value we have up.

Look, Seranthony had to go, and there was no easy way to off-load him and the money that remained on his Contract. I would have been fine with DFAing him. He's toast, and the M's will soon realize that.

C. Every trade seemed like an overpay for dudes they have to work on to build the value they traded for. But they did what they said they would do in the way they promised. Each of the 4 trades makes them better. I hate to lose Adams, Boston Smith and Gabe Davis, but the mere fact the Sox traded them shakes me out of my stan-hood. I don't like losing Pereira.

B. I think I would have liked one more starting pitcher. Bullpen is solid. Offense is completely fine as is. But we could potentially get some internal starting pitching reinforcement help later in the season so we'll see. Our guys are going to start getting gassed though from all these innings. Have to hope and pray for no major injuries. If they can pitch down the stretch like they have the last 5 games or so, if that is sustainable and not just a fluke, then this team can be real dangerous in late August into September and...wait for it...OCTOBER!!
