  2. MLB generally older fans/57 was the average age of those who consider baseball their favorite sport that demographic doesn't spend as much, so lower advertising rates as well RSN implosion mlb national contracts only worth $550 million, which didn't even increase in last negotiations increasing inaccessibility for middle class due to travel ball costs for teens NBA much bigger international footprint rise of the WNBA, with 40% ownership stake by NBA GS Valkyries already $1 billion plus challenges with Chinese politics, lack of interest in India as well LeBron James close to end Curry as well, young people around world can't identify as much with Wembayana as a Leo Messi or Rick Brunson
  3. ”Still, it is not entirely a coincidence that clubs in European soccer leagues—which also lack a salary cap—have similarly lagged behind the NFL and the NBA with their revenue multiples and their appreciation. Investors are willing to pay a premium for cost certainty—the predictability that comes with a salary cap curbing how much they can expect to spend from year to year.”
  4. I have to believe the NBA is at risk here given how hard it is to find any NBA game in any given night. But I digress.
  5. Sure, but the chemistry was stoney was so bad it's obvious they didn't like each other.
  6. Today

  7. As of this we didn't get an email invite, but I hope whoever is able to go expresses the importance of fixing the gate entry issues.
  8. Yesterday

  9. Yes, but the game is tomorrow at 1 PM. a.) Wet/dipped. But not on the south side — Johnnies Beef in Elmwood Park. b.) Chicago style — onions, relish, sport peppers, mustard, and celery salt. c.) Lou Malnati’s for deep dish but usually prefer tavern style.
  10. 23 are we gonna win tonite? As a southsider I would love to know. a.) do u like Italian Beef sandwiches with the soggy bun? If so where is the best place to get 'em near Midway or Mt Greenwood. b.) do you like Chicago dogs? If so what do u put on 'em. c.) Deep dish vs. tavern. I love those Vince's commercials on the buffet near Midway. I may be in town in a week or so. I wonder if I should rent a car or do the uber thing.
  11. Why not bring back Bennetti? He has to be 'sick' of Detroit by now. Chicago meanwhile is everybody's kinda town. Or how bout one year of an encore for Hawkeroo?
  12. Good stuff. Has to be a hassle for Holcomb to get to Rice for school every day and back home after practice.
  13. Yea that's about the latest they can go without pushing the WS back, and they don't like doing that either.
  14. I hope I get an invite. I've been a Season Ticket Holder for years.
  15. Id rather get a CB than Mack to be honest
  16. Shirley had been here a long time and it was time for a change anyway (aside from his nonsense). Excited to see how this guy approaches the draft and scouting.
  17. If I may ask, which young pitchers are you referring to??
  18. 13th is essentially one game out of the playoffs. A lot better than the forecasted ratings for the Cubs and Padres. And talent wise, everyone had them 12th 11th 10th with the Guardians and Astros.
  19. The two sides are much more dug in on their issues right now than last time. I don’t see the early March end date of last time to be a good indicator. I think the earliest this lockout ends is April but probably will go much later than that. If one of the sides caves on the salary cap issue before then, I’ll be very surprised.
  20. Owners have already calculated labor cost certainly of a cap gets them each an additional $800 million boost in franchise variation... Is that a position the majority of baseball fans are going to be sympathetic towards? Maybe to the 20-22% of US households 50+ that have acculumulated net worths of $1-3 million over the last decade plus. Families under 35/40 or so are going to hate it...just like hearing there's going to be so much abundance due to AI in the future that you won't need to save or even work and you can pursue the best UBI version of yourself as a hobby lol. https://www.tradingview.com/symbols/EURONEXT-VWRL/?timeframe=120M For a decade, this ETF is close to doubling that ROI that "poor" MLB owners are getting. NFL and NBA owners both at 300-350% jumps in valuations. Greed is good???
  21. In the past, the neighborhoods (Bridgeport, Armour Square, Bronzeville) were always limited on what could be negotiated on the 35th and Shields site, because Reinsdorf had ultimate veto power. Jim Thomspon said so himself -- as he mentioned in his oral history, his plan was always to have mixed retail/housing on the old Sox Park site, but Reinsdorf had final say as the site's only tenant. And JR wanted parking revenues over development: https://johnowens711.substack.com/p/is-this-what-sox-park-was-supposed
  22. It ended March 10th last time and they missed no games
  23. The last one ended on 3/10 and they pushed back opening day. Greedy players won't allow it to end earlier. They don't care about fans who schedule vacations around spring training and opening day. Both sides have equal respect for the fans who make this possible. And those same fans just decided which side's s%*# smells better.
  24. Memorial Day weekend when the 60 game clauses in the national TV deals automatically kick in and the owners lose negotiating power regarding their desire to lock in new deals.
  25. Only reason I think it will be March 1st or so is because these greedy POS won't want the revenue loss of cancelled games. Doesn't matter how much it will screw over the players' schedules.
