  2. I think it’s funnier that some people didn’t think the brothers would come as a package deal as far as running the team goes.
  3. Today

  4. "White Sox minority owner Mat Ishbia is backing a hard salary cap for baseball, paired with a minimum payroll requirement. He argues a floor would force teams to spend and help players, ***but says that as a minority owner he won't be making decisions in the labor fight***. Owners want a $245.3 million cap and a $171.2 million floor. Players strongly oppose the cap, saying it limits pay and hurts players across the sport. The proposed floor is higher than the current payrolls of 12 clubs, including the Brewers and Rays." different yahoo sports article
  5. See all the lessons Japan has learned having guys like Daisuke Matsuzaka throw 170+ pitches in the Koshien national high school baseball tournament in Osaka...
  6. https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/white-sox-owner-mat-ishbia-145421424.html Article asserts the brothers' ownership level of the team is now up to 40%. So it seems many of the minority shareholders sold out to the Reinsdorf family as well. So much for avoiding Ishbia Brothers involvement as previously speculsted that JR woulg willingly/happily play the villain role again, lol. "I do believe that it's been proven that having a salary cap does make sense for the business," Mat Ishbia told FOS's Dan Roberts. "But, also what people don't realize, people say, 'Oh, that's very owner-like to say.' But the other part that's not happening that's very fan-like— ***and once again, I'm maybe speaking out of turn because I don't have any say on this at all***— is in the NBA, there's also a minimum you have to pay. So in the NBA, even though the salary cap's, whatever, $180 million. I can't pay only $70 million to just sit there. I've actually got to pay 90-plus%, 95%. Therefore, it's really a pro-player thing. So I think there's probably a compromise." Ishbia's comments echo those of other MLB club owners. Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner, who is on MLB's labor policy committee, said Wednesday he supports management's labor proposals, including the salary cap and floor, "in their entirety."
  7. Because they only have to think about the kids’ health for 4 years max, then they get replaced with another fixed-price asset. They don’t spend 7 figures and 3 years on that arm just to get them their first start on the big stage, hoping for 6 good years. The college game has gotten more responsible with health, but that is the underlying reason.
  8. They might have to lower the mound or move the rubber back another 6 inches.
  9. What choice is there? Have you been watching all these playoff games closely? The Rays and Guardians have also run their bullpens ragged. We only have Burke, Martin and Kay... Luis Castillo should go 6-7 innings?
  10. Three factoids today: October 26, 1931 - Sox founder and owner Charles Comiskey died in his home in Eagle River, Wisconsin. He left his entire estate to his son J. Louis Comiskey including the White Sox. His estate was valued at over one and a half million dollars at the time. He died in his sleep. He was 72 years old and had been suffering from heart and kidney ailments that had kept him confined to his home for weeks. He was the last surviving owner from the formation of the American League who was still active in the game. (The Indians former owner Charles Somers was still alive but had been out of baseball for years.) October 26, 1994 - Even though his quest for the Triple Crown was cut short by the labor impasse shutting down baseball six weeks early, Frank Thomas still did enough to garner his second straight M.V.P. award from the Baseball Writers Association of America. Thomas outdistanced future Sox outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. and future teammate, Albert Belle and finished with 24 first place votes out of a possible 28. He ended up with 372 points to Griffey’s 233 and Belle’s 225. Thomas, in 113 games, hit .353 with 38 home runs, 101 RBI’s, 106 runs and 109 walks. With the award, Thomas became the first back-to-back A.L. winner since the Yankees' Roger Maris in 1960 and 1961. October 26, 2005 - On this night the Sox became World Series champions for the first time since 1917. Freddy Garcia and three relief pitchers shut out the Astros on five hits 1-0 sweeping the best of seven series four games to none. The Sox shut out Houston for the final 15 innings in series play. Outfielder Jermaine Dye drove in the game’s only run and was named the M.V.P. of the series. The South Side of Chicago exploded in an orgy of delight as fans celebrated all over the area. The Sox would go 11-1 in the post season concluding a 99-win regular season that saw them lead the division from wire to wire one of the most complete years in Major League Baseball history.
  11. Another reason for more bodies. Remember when only a couple guys could throw 100+ mph and that would be a knock out pitch in the 9th. Now it's routine and with spin. It's amazing these guys can pitch 5 innings. You are right, we probably will see a lot more openers and middle relief guys. I am excited to see how it works out for a full season. I wish we could expand rosters and platoon guys. Or allow pitchers to reenter games. Open and close.
  12. You already know the answer. Unlike college lineups, there are no easy outs in MLB. Scouting is more advanced, so getting through a line up a third time is difficult and unnecessary. The bullpens are filled with guys who can play. Also, guys at the MLB level have to throw at maximum velocity to earn and keep a position at the MLB level. It's also why you drive a Toyota to work and keep the sweet Corvette in the garage. Some are just work horses, others are thoroughbreds.
  13. Horrible. Don’t even know how she has a job.
  14. This story about another Marist HS in Oregon is hilarious… https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BWXfGejVP/?mibextid=wwXIfr The story is that it was a backup kicker practicing the onside kick but probably not very good timing in a blowout. 🤣
  15. Yeah, he loves it. He’s still in his knee brace after surgery but is walking around fine already. They just pulled out a big win against Aurora University yesterday. https://www.instagram.com/reel/De5sCUUpEWt/?xtok=MWFoZGhtM2V2eHFlZQ==
  16. How's your son doing at St. Norb? Does he like it?
  17. Good post Tex. How come college basketball coaches leave their starters in for seven, eight, nine innings good for 170 pitches, etc? Then at the highest level they baby these pitchers. Give me Bob Gibson, LaMarr Hoyt, Mark Buehrle, Fergie Jenkins, Dennis Leonard, Joe Horlen, Greg Maddux, etc. A complete game was a masterpiece in action to watch.
  18. Marist was 6-4 but 0-3 in the conference. Marist just beat Neuqua Valley of Naperville this weekend in these new expanded joke of a playoffs, but now they get to face Mt. Carmel next Friday night. Good luck to them. Brother Rice plays St. Charles North on Friday night whom they beat last November in the playoffs 42-18. They are definitely better than an 8 seed, as you can see by some of the teams that are ranked higher. This is the best QB they have had in years with three good RBs and they still have Kam McGee and Brayden Parks. https://www.ihsa.org/sports/football/state-series/brackets/7A
  19. I turned on the world series watched 1.5 innings couldn't take any more. Lot of foul balls and strikeouts. Sickening what the analysts did to my great game of baseball. HR or WHIFF with a walk thrown in too.
  20. Tex what is an ace nowadays? A five inning guy who whiffs 10 batters then gets pulled? Does pitching even matter? There are plenty of bodies in our organization who can work an inning or two. Our skipper is always gonna use 5-7 pitchers a game.
  21. Is Marist rebuilding? Did they have a down year? Rice pounded them. So what is Rice's playoff outlook. Can they win again? Are they better than an 8 seed?
  22. Yesterday

  23. I think you’re taking what I said out of context. I clearly stated we wouldn’t be able to get a true ace for a package of those players. But you’re telling me Getz laughed off for offering Carlson/Schultz/Sandlin/Wolkow for Alcantara/Rasmussen/Gilbert type of arm?
  24. I'll take quotes never heard from Colson Montgomery for $500, Alex.

  26. Bonemer finished slashing .286/.364/.633 in 13 games, tied for first in XBH (9) with 3 HR in 55 PA. He played OF exclusively (8 games in CF, 3 in LF, 1 in RF). He said the OF reps were the main goal of his AFL stint. His contact rate was up to 77.3% in AFL after being 73.6% in Birmingham (and 67.8% in WS). Like some speculated here, being challenged more by higher level pitching led to productive adjustments: More: https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/white-sox-caleb-bonemer-2026-arizona-fall-league-recap
