I do know there was chatter about Castillo being increasingly uncomfortable with his changing role/routine in Seattle as they played around with a 6 man rotation and throwing him out of the pen, so maybe there's a change of scenery benefit from that perspective at least.

It's my understanding that when there's a new agreement, the White Sox will be significantly under the salary cap floor. Along with many current players getting raises, Castillo $ might be needed as well at least in the short term. Just sayin...

6. The White SoxThey are trying to become the first team ever to make the postseason after three straight 100-loss seasons. Chicago has a dynamic offensive team, but by now it’s obvious the Sox need pitching and experience. I would target a veteran catcher, even after they are taking a flier on Eric Haase. The White Sox’ offense and ABS decision making from behind the plate have been awful.

The overreactions both on here and Twitter are insane and I am the king of overreactions here. The Sox gave up nothing in this trade besides Smith. The vast majority of this fanbase wanted Dominguez gone for awhile now. Castillo isn’t what he once was, but he clearly fills a need here and sending Dominguez’s contact the other way evens out the money a bit. They still need another starter. But I think the people saying the Sox got fleeced are crazy.

Castillo is basically Fedde that throws harder away from Seattle.

I’ll hold back judgement to see what other moves they make. If they get a legit 1 or 2 and Castillo becomes our 4 or 5 starter depending on where you rank him and Kay with Fedde being your long reliever then I’ll be fine with it

This year because of Seattle’s starting pitches riches. In his previous 7 years prior he has always been an innings eater with a sub 4 ERA and the metrics on his fastball have been improving in the last month.

Better get used to it. There have been numerous times over the past 40+ years I've been sick of hearing Reinsdorf's name so it evens out.

I am not a fan of this move. Nothing do with what the Sox gave up, I just hate the idea of trading for a guy who isn't all that much better than Fedde or Kay, and yet makes way more not only for this year, but next year and possibly 2028. Plus, 33 yr old pitchers rarely get better. Getz better not be done...

Castillo is 33 years old and all metrics are going backwards but velocity. Even if he’s somehow “fixed”, this is one of our big SP additions for next year. Getting rid of Dominguez’s $10M contract doesn’t make that worth it. Boston is simply the cherry on top of a perplexing trade. I hope I’m wrong, but this reeks of a GM first time buying and being raked over the coals.

Seriously doubt this. My concern is Castillo is 33 and the Sox are now on the hook for additional years. Maybe it won't matter if Ishbia takes over sooner rather than later.
