Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
Rain outs have to be made up. They only have 3 off cays remaining. Using one of them creates another 21 game run without a day off. And a rain out isn't a day off. They still come to the park.

Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
They have 3 days off between now and the end of the season, I don’t think these guys want to jam one or both of the cubs games into one of those days off It’s pretty disappointing that even in this surprise season you can’t even really enjoy it and have to provide “don’t get swept” into a thread after they just swept a team that was nipping on their heels

I also thing these guys are just tired. Full college season, draft process, all those workouts, then the travel involved in the minors. A guy like Roch has lived in LA, has a comfie crash pad, continuity for three years, now he's on the road in the low minors, not an easy transition. I'm glad they decided to get it started this year, he could have just played bridge league and shut it down until the AFL, which I think he'll play anyways.

Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
Schweitzer can be sent down 5 times with no ramifications. On the 6th time, he has to be put through waivers.

Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
Rain outs could allow the Sox to adjust things so they can use guys like Burke, Kay and maybe Martin if he's off the IL, giving them better chances to win. Since the games would have to be made up later. Also because of the make up game Thursday they are playing 17 games in 17 days. They could use a day off. And who said anything about the season being over? But it is a fact the Sox starting pitching is shaky at best. When you have TBD listed for not one but two games against a team that's pretty good and happens to play in the same city, that to me is noteworthy.

Future of Positional Core
Seems like just a myth. He's built like a brick s%*# house regardless. I'd be much more worried about Noah, who at 22 apparently already has a chronic tendonitus issue in his knee.

Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
Why would you want a rain out? Why does every opponent scare you that the season is over?
-
Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
Maybe we can get a couple rain outs! Pitching match ups on paper favor the Cubs tremendously. Just don't get swept...win a game somehow.

Thanks for that research, particularly Lackey. It shows 2 things. 1. Pitching in minors > pitching in college, and 2. wood bats make a difference. Our boy Roch probably agrees.

Sucks for the Cubs.

Future of Positional Core
You think so? I feel like they don’t feel his body can handle the rigors of starting.

Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
Yes, and Fedde seems to have DFA written all over him if he has another poor performance vs Cubs this week. It seems like he gets an annual DFA.

Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
Cubs’ trade deadline additions potentially going against our emergency scrubs on Tuesday & Wednesday.

Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
Yeah can option him but still need to make the 40-man move.

Future of Positional Core
If under the current CBA I'm using every arb year I have on the young core before I lock any of them up long term. Too scorned from the Robert, Moncada and Eloy deals. Let Beni walk and rotate in Bonemer and Roch with a rotating DH until they hopefully prove they are every day players. Carlson is years away and needs to prove he can hit, should have traded him already IMO, but now they'll need to wait and let him try to raise his stock again. None of the FA hitters in 2027 are really attractive to me as an every day player. I don't think you really need to worry about it until 2028 at the earliest and that assumes Bonemer and Roch can hit at the ML level.

- Future of Positional Core
To me, the two biggest unknowns are Peters and Bonemer. I have no idea how good Peters might get. With an off season of hard-core workouts, he might get some real power next year and be more valuable. Bonemer has to find a position and hit. If Doyle doesn't hit by mid 2027, he probably won't.- Future of Positional Core
taylor will get a chance to start next year, that seems obvious imo. they want him around 80-90ip this year and 120-150 next.- Future of Positional Core
Yah, I'm not sure what those 2 guys want. I once thought Mune will go to Dodgers and pair up with his buddy Ohtani and replace Freeman, whose contract will expire at end of 2027. Vargas?? Probably just wants to test Free Agent waters one time.Today

Whether we like it or not I have a strong sense that Shane Smith is going to pitch Tuesday or wednesday. just a hunch!- Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
Fully agree…I just think they might wait until Sunday to call up Thorpe to both let him get fully stretched in a lower pressure situation and do one final evaluation on some of the arms on the fringe of the roster.- Future of Positional Core
trade frenzy is a mental illness from being a fan of a habitual losing organization. This seems more exclusive to baseball than any other sport. Applying the baseball model to the NFL and it wouldn't work very well. It doesn't take long for the knee jerk reactions when a player has a disappointing moment for one to use the word trade. We somehow think a GM doesn't see the same things we do. Baseball is the least predictable sport. Yet we don't treat it that way. You would think organizations would also realize the sport has become more injury prone. Working players at other positions would seem to be a good idea in the minors. I think it would sort out players who have a high baseball IQ. Most teams draft OF and SS since those are usually the mot athletic players. It wasn't long ago we bragged about the Sox being strong at catcher. What more evidence does one need to know this is the least predictable sport. I think any organization that is strong at catcher is more of a myth.- Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
Yes, this seems right. Fedde's last real start before they messed with him was a very nice outing, holding the Rays to 1 run in TB in a similar situation (tough road series with question marks up and down the pitching matchups). Let's hope he can recapture that.- Cubs/Sox - Who Makes the Starts?
That’s pretty much where we are at with everyone after Castillo and Burke, shortened workload and sic the bullpen on them. This is who this team is at this point, there is nobody out there who can rescue them from this starting pitching deficit. We are fully in piecemeal production and we have seen in implemented - Future of Positional Core
