So they can compete with any team, but also lose to any team. Its a major improvement over the past few years. They will be a touchdown favorite in the next 2 games, win those and you are 5-3 halfway through and a half game back at most in the division, with 5 divisional games left. While I bet they fall short, they can easily improve, beat their rivals, and host a playoff game.1 point

This was not a good game for Trubisky and we still put up 31 points against a team that was getting pretty good pressure on him. The offense has only gotten better. I believe the defense will improve once Mack gets healthy and the weather worsens1 point

But is anyone actually saying the Bears should make the playoffs this year? I think even the most optimistic fans have said Mitch would have to take big step forward and they’d have to have some good luck. IIRC, your intial take was this was a six win team. Clearly they are a better team than that and that’s all that people are really arguing.1 point

This team is not mediocre. The defense is still top notch IMO despite the last couple games and the offense has a ton of interesting weapons. There is a lot to be optimistic about here. The problem is you can’t accept that Mitch is a work in progress and that he will have mediocre performances like today. If/when it clicks, this team will have the potential to be extremely dangerous. Whether that happens this season or not remains to be seen, but I’m certainly glad the necessary pieces are already in place in the event he does take that next step. There was absolutely nothing fun about last year no matter how you want to spin it.1 point

The other guy suggested what 3/30 that really is nothing inregards to starting pitching and is a good bet to take. Also the likelyhood is at least two of those five guys you mentioned either doesn't make it or gets injured. Kopech is already coming back from TJS and will likely be on an innings limit. I don't get your stance at all when there is a good value bet to make I want this FO to pounce on that. I'm not buying this pie in the sky thinking that all five of our current bets and that is all they are at this point all (even Rodon is one from a health standpoint) are going to come up aces. Projecting that to happen in the future seems almost negligent to me. I mean it's fine to do as a fan but as a GM? I want to have some f'n contingencies and options incase of injuries, MLB regressions, and guys in the minors not turning out.1 point

Every D looks bad when there is no QB pressure and it’s understandable that Mack & Hicks can’t be superheroes every Sunday. It’s time for the almighty Fangio to fix it.1 point

This post is odd. You said it’s easier to digest when you have no expectations but now you’re saying you’re disappointed. The Bears are probably going to win 8 or 9 games with a ton of talented players under 27 years old. I’m not sure what the Mack trade did to you but this offense is going to be a work in progress all year. Deal with it.1 point

Look we can Trubisky this or Fangio that, but the bottom line is if you give up 2 special teams TD’s, you’re not going to win. Combine that with not picking up Edelman’s punt and you have a trio of turds. They lost to NE by 7, and I figured that would be the case, if not 11-14. Beat NY and Buffalo & come home 5-3 for a division game.1 point

The Manny Machado saga continues and I like this jerk less, every day. I will be disappointed if the Sox even offer him the kind of contract, which has been speculated. This guy seems to have a questionable character: Putting aside the controversial hard slides, in an effort to break up double plays, which after all, used to always be part of baseball, there are plenty of instances where this creep is revealing his character. First, he says he's not the kind of guy who runs hard on ground outs, insisting that he's not the "Johnny Hustle" type, as though to disparage guys who do hustle. He might have done himself a favor by admitting that it's one of his faults and that he hopes to improve that part of his game, in the future. It's as though he is saying; "Hey, I'm great and that's who I am, so take it, or leave it, I'm not going to change". I still have trouble seeing how Renteria would reconcile the team spending a fortune, to bring in a guy who shamelessly proclaims that he does not intend to ever be a guy who runs hard on ground outs, with the team's philosophy of demanding that everyone do precisely that. Then, he kicks Aguilar and doesn't seems to be sorry. He certainly didn't' demonstrate any contrition. He could have simply said; "It was an accident, and I'm just glad that no one was hurt". Instead, he says; "call it what you want". What the Hell is that supposed to mean? Ok, the League called it and slapped him with a fine. And most recently, when the Milwaukee fans booed him, he turns to them and grabs his genitals. Real classy. This guy is a real heel, in the tradition of Pro Wrestling. No thanks, I don't want to have to root for a player like that. I hope the front office will use the franchise's vast financial resources to acquire a little more likable person. You know, it's already inherently difficult to relate to players who make the kind of money they do, playing a game, that most guys would play for nothing, if they just had the chance. Trying to relate to a player, with Machado's attitude, just makes it all that much more difficult. I understand that for some, the only thing that matters is winning. "Who cares what kind of people the players are, as long as they are the champions"? The problem with that approach is that fans have to live with many seasons, in which their favorite team is not the World Champion. How do we deal with those seasons, if the players are not likable people?1 point

FWIW Luis said he feels good. Fingers ‘ crossed that he’s in the lineup sooner rather than later.1 point

I think you guys are being way optimistic here. Right now we have one guy who we can pencil in Fry who may or not even be good. Are we really going to be able to find 6-7 guys who can hold it together for the whole season in the minor league because I could easily see us going through at least ten to twelve guys after accounting for injuries and people just not getting the job done. Also one of main draws we have over other clubs is we can offer a player like say Cody Allen the closer job and a chance to rebuild their value. Why not take advantage of that?1 point

I hadn't thought about it but I think I'm going to eliminate kickers from my league. There is much more strategy with def than there is with K.1 point

I would be interested in Gray. Younger and more upside than Shields. Potential flip candidate.1 point
