Common sense/logic. Those two franchises really have NO CHOICE, especially with the end of Clayton Kershaw Era nearing, but certainly not his contract. The Yankees, with the Red Sox spinning their wheels for at least one more year and Rays not having the financial resources to compete for the biggest prize...their fans are going to expect even more for the highest priced ticket in baseball.

So for the last couple months I feel like I've done a lot of damage to my reputation as a poster. I've put a lot of things out there that I wish I didn't, and it took me until this weekend to realize what was going on. I'm pretty messed up right now. Not only am I dealing with being on the autistic spectrum, I've been dealing with chronic pain for the better part of 20 years. About two years ago, it started to get really bad and it got so bad by the end of 2018 that I couldn't do anything anymore other than sit at home. I tried to fight through it as much as I could but it just kept getting worse. In April, I decided to have surgery to hopefully correct my issues. I've been dealing with the after effects of it(Physical therapy and another surgery) for the better part of the last 6 months. I'm not handling it well. I haven't been able to do much of anything for 6 months. Even so, the PT isn't far enough along that I can work or go do things I enjoy yet. Please forgive me for being an uber grouch for the last 3 months or so because I'm pretty pissed off about how long this is taking and the rate of progress. I'm going to try not to post angry anymore and sit on them for 30 mins before submitting. I'm a lot more testy and assholish than normal right now. I have just started to realize I've been posting angry way too much. Please be kind. Cheers, Parkman.

We have six. I didn’t round 1.9 up for all the other teams, either...because it’s 1.9, not 2.0. Then I would have counted the Twins at 13. Nova is one. Jimenez and Abreu at 1.9. So sure, if we can add at least five more 2 fWAR contributors...and not get truly abysmal numbers like we did from Alonso, Castillo, Palka, Cordell, etc. If we’re going to count on McCann repeating and Kopech/Cease/Lopez and signing at least 4 “good to very good” free agents and at least THREE of them succeeding. But, even then, we’re still a long ways behind the Astros, Yankees, Dodgers, etc.

We have 7 2 fWar players not including Nova and round Eloy and Abreu from 1.9 to 2. Robert's floor is probably 2. So theres 8. And if they are spending 150-175 million in FA that's another 3 players above 2 fWar, which is 11. I don't know what Madrigal,Cease, or Kopech are going to do next year but there's a good chance 1 or 2 of those guys are above 2 fWar.

Let’s go by the definition of 2+ fWAR players. We have six. You can basically flip Nova and Abreu for the purposes of argument. Twins have 12 and Pérez at 1.9. Astros have 11. Yankees have 11. Cubs have 11. Dodgers have 10. Then you have to consider how many have the potential to be true studs...and that’s Moncada, Giolito and Robert. Jimenez will always be suppressed by defense/position and we have no earthly idea what Kopech and Cease are going to do. If the White Sox aren’t willing to spend $150-175 million, then a Cole contract blowing up in their faces is devastating. Just like the Kopech injury was to the 2018/19 seasons to those forecasting an earlier push to competitiveness/respectability.

Count them...we already have 10-15 high quality players. For the most part playoff winners have two or three stud pitchers. Fourth and fifth starter are needed to get into the playoffs...the stud top of rotation guys are needed to win playoff series and ultimately the WS.

If the asking price for Cole is 35 million for 6 years...I'd offer it right out of the box. Then I go after Wheeler while Cole thinks over our offer. Don't fool around with clever incentives. If Cole counters with 7 years at 245 I give it to him. If we by some chance we get both of them...get Grandal and Calhoun/Pederson and print the WS tickets. No more fooling around Rick. Lets get er done.

I love that lineup. I've always said that Anderson will be batting around 7th or 8th when we are really competitive. Trivia question: How many teams in the history of MLB have had the first and second place finisher in the batting title race on the same team, and they were batting 8th and 9th? Answer: One...the 2021 White Sox

Dream for a realistic / won’t break the bank option. I honestly don’t think we can do much better than him via trade. After him, you’re looking highly flawed but talented guys like Mazara & Polanco and one year rental types like Joc. We simply don’t have the assets to acquire a more impactful player unless we’re prepared to trade from the Cease, Madrigal, Vaughn talent pool which we shouldn’t. While Mookie would be the absolute dream, his acquisition cost and lack of control don’t make sense for us. We aren’t far enough into the rebuild to take chances like that IMO.

Absolutely starting pitching has to be priority #1. Make a strong offer early and land a starter in November. Waiting around for the market to dictate things needs to not happen this year. Target who you want (outside of Cole and Strasburg because they will not pay that amount of $) and sign them quickly.

The plan should be to quickly do the following: Land one of Wheeler or Bumgarner Land one of Grandal or Martinez We should then evaluate trade options for RF. If there’s something worthwhile at a reasonable price (Nimmo being the dream), go ahead and pull the trigger. If not, sign Dickerson or Kalhoun to be a stop-gap. Doing so buys you a year on your OF prospects and if none of them take a major step forward you look at being serious players for Betts, Springer, & Pederson in 2021. After those critical needs are filled, it’s primarily about pitching depth. We definitely need another starter type (there are plenty or options) and at least one established bullpen arm to add to the mix. Maybe look at a bench piece as well, but only if you can land said player on your own terms.

It was a trash idea when you "jokingly" suggested it the first time, and it's a trash idea now.

This is exactly why so many of us were clamoring for them to land a whale last off-season. It was a perfect storm of premium talent being available, payroll flexibility, and lack of big spenders to compete with. Not the case this year!

The White Sox have slashed payroll the previous years so they could spend big on free agents when the time comes. They can still land big names players while having a middle of the pack payroll. No excuses. The typical "we tried" isn't going to fly this offseason.

So teams are only interested in the guy they draft? Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?
