Since Kim is basically taking a one-year deal if he turns out to be okay, one can surmise that he wants to hit free agency coming off a 5 WAR/162, rather than a 2.5 WAR/162. He's not going to break the bank, but if he signs a 5+ year contract, he might be adding $5M+ a season to that 5/60.

To me, this is the takeaway from the whole interview: I think C. Monty will stick at short at least for the duration of his first season in the bigs. He may even stick until Gonzo or Bonemer knock him to 3B/1B/LF.
