Brennaman's probably half-serious and half-trying to create a rivalry. I think he started off with a valid point and then got carried away and took the point to an exaggerated level. I think every fanbase of every team in every sport has a percentage of douchebag fans. Even the Cardinals fans, who Brennaman is apparently in love with, have their own percentage of douchebag fans. That said, I think anyone who throws anything on a baseball field during a game should at least be ejected from the park, and that includes opposing team's homeruns. It's by far the dumbest sports "tradition" I can think of.

4/18 Gamethread: Sox (9-6) at Rays (7-9); 6:10; CSN

I wish I had the time and patience to watch every game because a "GIT UP! STRETCH!!"-O-Meter would make a great sig. It could be in the high tens of thousands by the end of the season. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) And what would be your reaction if we made that deal and won the World Series this year? Different kind of crying. -
Neither is wrong. It's just sports. I like the Packers, because my wife is a Packers fan. In fact, the Packers are the only NFL team I follow in the slightest. I cheer for the Cubs when they don't play the Sox, because my wife and most of the best people in my life are Cubs fans. I've always loved the Red Wings, too - now almost as much as (and until $Bill died, MORE THAN) the Blackhawks. I don't feel bad about any of it. You know why? It's just sports.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) That made me laugh out loud at work and everybody turned around and started looking at me. BTW am I the only one on this board that likes the Bears better than the Sox, or otherwise doesn't have the Sox as his #1 team? I have the Blackhawks at number 1, followed by the Sox. -

Wait til you see the picture of the guy who pretended to be the Rock. I hope for everyone's sake that he was scamming blind people. http://www.thestar.co.uk/doncaster/Psychia...o-be.3982370.jp He does have the eyebrow thing going on in the picture, though..... -

Local teams, in order of interest to me: Hawks (vaulted back to #1 since Rocky took over) Sox Wolves Fire Cubs Bulls Bears Outside of Chicago, there are about 6 NHL teams between the Sox and Wolves (Red Wings, Bruins, Flyers, Penguins, Blues and Senators), then the Packers fall in between the Fire and the Cubs, followed by 4 MLB teams before the Cubs as well (Cardinals, Brewers, Pirates, Diamondbacks). No college team in any sport makes my list. I couldn't possibly care less about college sports, until my nephew signs on somewhere to play collegiate soccer. -
Michael Sweet from Stryper is singing for Boston on this tour. I've heard him try to sing Boston songs, and it ain't good. I had a friend who would go to that fest every year, but I never went so I can't tell you if it's worth it or not.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) Yeah, but I would have him as the LAST choice doing the show. It's gotten pretty enjoyable as of late. I agree. Adamle is horrible. He's just a huge waste of money, and now giving Adamle something to do moves Styles out of what he does best. I wish some other promotion would be enough of a threat to occupy Vince's time - when he's bored he does some goofy s***. -
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...0&start=150 I'm glad this was posted in its own thread. I doubt I'd have seen it if it was buried in a 12-or-13 page general thread about opinions on umpiring. It's good to see that Port responded, and while I disagree on the first disputed call, I can also appreciate his point of view (slanted though it's bound to be) defending the calls on the field. Umpiring is always easier at home with the benefit of replays and slow and stop motion. It was just frustrating to have that many calls go against the Sox in such a short period of time.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) per the Observer. WTF? Styles isn't even gone, they're just reassigning him to some other job in the company. I guess they have to justify Adamle's contract? He's not good. -

QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 06:14 AM) 2008 and you still want to simulcast? Common. Personally, I want to hear Foley call this team. I think he'd be off the charts calling games that actually mean something again. For me he was one was of the few reasons to watch Hawks games the past decade or so. I loved his rant on Karpotsev a few years ago, but now I wanna hear him screaming when Kane scores a big goal or Big Buff lays into someone. A radio guy simulcasting would be just fine - he's already calling it for radio, so the descriptions would be there. A TV guy calling it might leave something out, since he relies on the video to show the play developing. I just really don't care if Foley comes back to the Hawks or not. He's a very good PBP guy, I just think he's been lifted to legendary status when IMO he's a notch or two below that. Same with Messmer - I think people romanticize these guys because they remind them of a better time. -

I'd be fine with Foley coming back (especially if they bring Gardner back with him), but I'd be just as fine with simulcasting Wiederman. To me he's every bit as good, if not better, than Foley. Foley is reaching Aaron Rowand levels of mythical worship in this city. -

QUOTE (max power @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) Thome is usually a slow starter. '06 was an anomaly. I think he'll be fine come sometime in may. I don't doubt that, but Ozzie's gotta sit him against lefties until he comes around. -

QUOTE (CWSGuy406 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) Ick -- you're actually rooting for Nashville? It's like asking me if I'd like to have my left eye poked out or my right eye poked out... I can't actively cheer for either of those teams. I understand that 100%, but the Red Wings have always been my second favorite team (I'm old enough to have seen late-prime Gordie Howe), so I'm for them all the way since the Hawks are gone. -
