  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 27, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) I dont agree at all, they paid him money to try out for other teams, he wont play enough this year to make a decent contribution and most likely wont remain with the team next season. On top of that 4 other teams took a look at his medical records and stopped pursuing him. The only good gamble would have been a minor league contract. I know we've heard this song before, but the last thing I read on Prior said he could be ready by June-ish. If he comes back in June and gets into decent game shape by say July, that's plenty of time to make contributions enough for the Padres to justify the move. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the Sox didn't pursue him because he never seems to be ready when they say he should, and can't stay healthy for very long, but as gambles go, I still think it's not a bad risk for the Padres to take on a guy with an 18-6 season on his resume.
  2. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Dec 26, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) I actually stumbled onto it on break.com. I am surprised to find out it has been around for about a year and this is the first day I have heard about it. I'm not so surprised to see Jimmy Hart is part of it. Yeah, Jimmy Hart is an enormous whore. He attaches himself to any half-assed project out there. Although this project is not half-assed, it appears to have many fully-formed asses.
  3. It's a decent gamble for the Padres. If he comes back and shows anything meriting another deal, I'd think the Padres would have the upper hand at keeping him, due to them taking a chance on him this season (plus being the "hometown team").
  4. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Dec 26, 2007 -> 07:34 PM) So...are any of you fans of the NWWL? I had to Google this - why do I suspect you didn't?
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 25, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) Critic, just spend the $17 and get the WSX DVD set. It's really entertaining. I just wish there was a better way to watch all of the WSX Xtra matches. Plus you can see our fellow Soxtalker Longshot 7 sitting in the front row wearing an AJ Pierzynski Sox T-shirt. Longshot, did you get paid for being there? (I don't remember the story.) I didn't enjoy WSX when it was on MTV, I won't be paying for the DVD. It just seemed like a weekly clusterf*** with no rhyme or reason.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 24, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) Don't care what anyone says, Skiles did NOT deserve to be fired. The team has gotten better every year he has been head coach. How about Hinrich? Gordon? These guys have all regressed and it isn't Skiles fault. Who are they going to get that is better? Include Phil Jackson in the Kobe deal? Like I said in the other thread, fair or not (and I don't think it is fair), this is what happens. You can't fire the team, so you fire the coach. The minute he was hired, the clock started on his firing.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 24, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) Yeah, Floyd. Every NBA check Floyd received was like a Christmas gift, though.

    Merry Christmas

Happy Ho Ho to all you Soxtalkers!!! I hope you all get what you want, and NOT what you deserve!
  9. So Skiles joins Billy Reay as Chicago coaches let go on or just before Christmas. That's too bad, but the Bulls aren't performing and that's what happens.
  10. Home now, but I worked last night. Same thing happens for New Year's Eve.
  11. Ahhhhh, Roger Clemens already told me about this on YouTube.
  12. Lost power at the house for 6 hours today. Couldn't ask for nicer weather for a power outage. Wearing a coat inside the house = AWESOME. The wife was worried about all the food we bought for Christmas dinner, I told her all we'd need to do to keep it cold is put it in the garage.
  13. Can't tell you what's coming next I don't know for sure It could be good, and it could be bad I don't know for sure I guess that I'll continue on from day to day The only way to answer that To answer that would be to be that way I wanted this, and I wanted that I don't know for sure And don't ask because I don't know I don't know for sure I never get confused 'cause I don't really know So I'm happy and so what So what means that I don't know It's too simple to explain I don't know for sure And words are never proper words I don't know for sure What is simple, what is hard Is harder to discern These feelings that are feeling Like the feelings that we learn
  14. QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 22, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) I'm back home for the next 3 weeks or so, and today I saw someone I went to high school with, and found out he goes to Iowa State. Since seeing him, I've just been wondering why the hell anyone would go there. The only reason I can suspect is that he got a scholarship for playing hockey, because I know he's on the team, but still.. if you're from New Jersey (like I am), why would you go to Iowa State of all schools? I thought my going to Minnesota was strange enough, but wow. My nephew went to Iowa State and did way more partying than studying until he lost his scholarship and had to pay for himself. He eventually got his degree and a really good job, so once he applied himself the school turned out to be good for him.
  15. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 22, 2007 -> 01:21 AM) Defenitly. When he showed us the drink menu, we figured we would take a shot, so when we we ordered the margaritas, he just brought a pitcher, and he just said "you guys are 21 right?" of course we said yeah, so he kept them coming. bastard... Hey, you wanna play, ya gotta pay, mah bruthah...adult life ain't cheap!
  16. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) No need for impure thoughts like that on this forum. I was speaking of her nice dress, I don't know how you can turn that into an impure thought. I guess we're getting a look inside your mind, and it ain't pretty.
  17. QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) These are going to be songs that were very pervasive in pop culture as opposed to an actual 100 greatest songs list. It's all fun. You can check your serious music fan card at the door. Or I can just pass on the 100 Steaming Piles. Which I'll do, because bad music's not fun to me, the Card-Carrying Serious Music Fan.
  18. Tonight's TNA holiday "special" is pretty horrible so far, with the EXTREMELY notable exception of Karen Angle. Her dress is very, very enjoyable.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) Which is the problem, at least IMO. It's nice that Buff is able to be used in a flexible fashion, but I think it would be best for all parties involved to settle on a spot for Dustin, let him develop his game. Dustin has less than 60 NHL games under his belt, and I think he would be best served focusing on one position, seeing as he has major flaws both as a forward and D man... Tony speaketh the truth.
  20. QUOTE(farmteam @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 01:33 AM) VH1 is debuting their top 100 songs of the 90s this week (at least, I think it's new). I remember a lot of good records in the 90s, and I'm not seeing many of them represented here.
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 08:01 AM) I can kind of relate to what Schilling is saying here. I want Giambi to give Frank his MVP award. I don't want Giambi to give his MVP award to Frank any more - it's got The Cream all over it now.
  22. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) **unsubstantiated rumor** Randy Savage supposedly deflowered Stephanie. **/unsubstantiated rumor** But really nobody knows for certain except for the way they conducted business in the early 90's which was fairly acrimonious after Macho left. **unsubstantiated rumor/urban legend bonus track** ...when Steph was 14 or 15... **/unsubstantiated rumor/urban legend bonus track** I'm always hesitant to believe these rumors, but it seems like Vince was able to mend fences with almost everyone, even (to a degree and for selfish reasons on both sides) Bret Hart, so for Vince to make flat statements like "I do not want to ever do business with that man again" there must be something pretty serious in play.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 11:05 AM) Your girlfriend and Critic are at 10000 'what' by now? Combined pounds, and she only weighs a buck and a quarter.
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) I thought shirley*, Critic was at 10,000 by now. *she's my gf .......(crickets)......... Dammit, one post closer to leaving Mike alone!!!!
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 09:50 AM) Once you get to 5 digits on your post totals, SS2K5 post total jokes are no longer allowed until he hits 6 figures. Given that we're coming into the holiday season and most people have time off work, I figure 2K5 will be at 100,000 posts by about January 4th. I can use the break from mocking him to think up new mockery!
