Sox wearing 1972 color uniforms this season
The Critic replied to SOXOBAMA's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 10:13 PM) Sign a couple more Cubans and replace "Sox" with "Cuba" on those bad boys! The Cubs already had jerseys that looked like they said Cuba. The Sox can't go around copying the Cubs! -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 08:47 AM) Meanwhile, Cristobal Huet has a .932 save % with a 1.99 GAA. In Switzerland. If he was playing poorly, it would be too easy to come up with a nickname for him.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 06:01 AM) Funny thing is, he was rumored to be going to Chicago earlier in the year and Stan backed off. Whoops.. I don't know if this one game makes it a "Whoops". Gagner had 5 goals and 17 assists on the year before last night. He's a good player, good for center depth at the right price.
-
Sam Gagner had a night, huh? 4 goals and 4 assists, tying the franchise record for points in one game (also held by a couple decent players...Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey). Amazing night for #89.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) Kings GM responds: It was his team on their home ice so he could just be full of s***, but it sounds like a legit excuse. That is the response when the clock aids his team. This is the response if the clock aided the opposition: "f***ING STUPID CLOCK!!!!"
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 09:58 AM) Columbus doesn't really matter in hockey, but last night in LA with the score tied at 2 and the 3rd period clock running down, the Kings were trying to score a game-winner. The clock suddenly stops for almost a second at 1.8, then keeps going, giving the Kings just enough time to score the winner with 0.5 seconds left. Nice "clock management" there!

Picked up tickets for a Monday night game in May against the Tigers. 5th row down the first base line, not bad for 20 bucks each. Hope the Prince doesn't block my view of their pitcher too much. Not sure how many more games I'll go to this year.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) I agree with Krush on the shootout. If a losing team deserves zero points, then you cant have a game come down to a shootout, which is just randomness for the most part. Then bring back the tie. Without OT. If you're going to reward a losing team, then there should be no winning team. If you can't get it done in 60, then each take a point and make the whole exercise meaningless. Just please, no 3-point wins. That's just idiotic.
-
QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) I dont think a team should be penalized for losing a shootout. That would be like allowing baseball game to be decided by a HR derby after 10 innings of a tie game. A loss is a loss. I cannot see any situation where a losing team deserves points. It diminishes the value of a win.

well, thanks for posting this too late to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ice Cube's Good Day!!!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 07:30 PM) I like the shootout better than the tie. I do wish they would go to the 3-2-1 point system with OTW's being worth less than a regulation W. I want fewer points awarded, not more. I see it like this: Regulation win = 2 points OT or shootout win = 1 point Loss = 0 points. I don't believe a team should ever be awarded points for a loss.

Reader Columnist: Season 2 A.D. Approaching for Sox

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 05:34 PM) LOL @ If Dunn sucks again this year, I may have to take this to One Hour Tees and get it printed on a t-shirt. -
Sox wearing 1972 color uniforms this season
The Critic replied to SOXOBAMA's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is the first Sox uniform I remember as a kid, so this makes me very happy. I remember getting the giveaway "jersey t-shirt" that had the pinstripes and logo on the front but was plain white with no pinstripes on the back. Ahhhh, that Bill Veeck! -
How did you become a fan of (insert team here).
The Critic replied to HeGone33's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Red Wings - as a kid they were on the network Game of the Week all the time and I got hooked. My dad was not a hockey fan, so there was no one to tell me that it was "wrong" to like both the Blackhawks and the Red Wings. (Although at that time I don't think it was nearly as big a deal as some people make it now) Packers - I don't care about football at all, and my wife is from Wisconsin and is a Packer fan, so I am too. Cardinals - again, liked them as a kid, and like the uniform. -

STAMFORD, Conn., January 17, 2012 – In accordance with its Talent Wellness Program, WWE (NYSE:WWE) has suspended Matthew Korklan (Evan Bourne®) for 60 days effective Tuesday, January 17 for his second violation of the company’s policy. As DJ would say, "....UH OHHHHH". -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) Is it me or has Leddy regressed as a player A nice comeback to tie and then schooled in ot Patrick Kane literally makes to attempt to play defense I think he's hit the wall a little bit. He'd benefit from fewer minutes, maybe even a healthy scratch. I'd bring up Dylan Olsen and sit Leddy for a game. Not a punishment, just a breather.

I finally finished Bob Mould's autobio, and I just picked up two books I'm excited to read: Dirty Deeds: My Life Inside/Outside of AC/DC by Mark Evans Surviving The Ramones by DeeDee Ramone As you can probably tell, I prefer biographies to fiction.

What are your 3 fav sports teams?

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) I happen to think the Red Wings have the ugliest unis in sports, next to the Green Bay Packers but that just may be the homer in me ....the Packers are the only NFL team I like....and I like their jersey, too....so you're wrong twice! -

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) How the heck can you like the Blackhawks and the Red Wings? When I was a kid, no Hawks home games were televised (many of us can relate). However, the Red Wings were on the national Game Of The Week all the time. I just fell in love with them. My dad couldn't care less about hockey, so there was no one to steer me to hate them (I'm very glad about that, for what it's worth). I love their white jersey (in my opinion, the Red Wings white jersey is the best-looking in any sport), so that was another reason. Semi-related: since I almost never saw the Hawks' white jersey, it became almost a mystical thing to me. I would get so excited when I got a hockey card of a Blackhawk in the white jersey. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) I'd like the WWE Hall of Fame more if their main attractions were out of the pic for a few years. Not excited about Edge at all. It's because of the career-ending injury, obviously. It bothers me a bit, only because Savage, Rude and Roberts are not in there yet. Those three deserve to be in before Edge is even considered, injury or no. The Four Horsemen is a genius call. The premier heel faction in the history of the business by a country mile. The nWo may have done more business for a period of time, and it was a really good angle until 78% of the wCw roster was in some form of the nWo, but The Horsemen were revolutionary. -
Stalberg is beginning to remind me of Brian Noonan. Bursts of offense followed by long stretches of invisibility.

The only reunion I was hoping for has happened, and I will be at Metro on February 11th to celebrate the WAY-OVERDUE return of The Darkness!

Sounds like they may as well keep Soriano and hope for the best. At least he'll hit his 20 or so homers and drive in around 75 runs.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) Read that the Cubs maybe on the verge of sending Soriano and money to Baltimore for Brian Roberts. But it is Phil Rogers suggesting it so take it for what its worth. Not sure how much Roberts has left (I don't pay any attention to the Orioles), but if Theo and Ricketts have proven one thing this offseason, it's that they will eat money now to build for later.
