  1. Joe's drop of that tough play in foul ground could hurt right here. C'mon, Jon, go get 'em!
  2. On today's pre-game show, Ed Farmer shared his belief that Jon Garland is the best pure athlete on the White Sox right now. I laughed at first, but then thought about it a little more. My opinion is that Jermaine Dye is the best athlete on the Sox, but I'm curious to get your opinions. So, whattya think?
  3. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) hot from far, but far from hot. That's very close to the way I say it: Good From Far, Far From Good
  4. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) Due to this thread, I now need to make a beer run. Assholes. Also, my favorite cheap beer is Baltika No. 9 from Russia. I got a case of 20 pint bottles from a Polish neighborhood in Chicago for $22. 8% ABV and it tastes very good. As my friend commented, "Wow, I didn't know they bottled God's nutsack sweat." Sorry, man, but NO reference to nutsack sweat would make me thirsty. Not even God's....
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) You can cut the condescending s*** out right now. The "majority".. that means that there are some that DID find it rude, offensive, and embarrassing. Why are people in an uproar... because it was rude, offensive, and embarrassing to them. I understand just fine that the gay community made this a big deal because THEY WERE OFFENDED. Why is that so hard for YOU to understand? The term is OFFENSIVE to THEM. Why do you have such a problem with that? It's their right. And also their right to make noise about it. You seem to think - at least you are implying it - that the only reason they, and others are offended, is because some media member told them to be. That is just plain asanine. Of course it's happening. It happens all the time. Read more than the sports section and you will see that people protest all types of things all the time. I would add to this that it was the majority of the people polled who didn't find it offensive, and if we've learned nothing else, polls can be skewed to prove or disprove whatever you want. I can certainly understand how people could be offended at what Ozzie said. It was right for him to apologize, and I'm glad he did.
  6. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) Hopefully he'll be the same guy, but just learn some new words to use. He's already said (jokingly) that he was learning new words to use. I bet his sensitivity trainer comes away throwing F-bombs after meeting Ozzie. Ozzie's going to remain who he is. He'll probably think a little more before he speaks, but that's a good thing. I doubt he'll ever turn into a cliche-spewing zombie - that's not him. That's Jerry Manuel. Like he said, he'll be on his boat in Venezuela before that happens.
  7. I'm still waiting for Mariotti's sensitivity training and apology to Frank Thomas for inferring that he was a cross-dresser by calling him The Big Skirt.
  8. QUOTE(gar102 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 07:01 AM) I believe the gates open 2 hours before gametime this year. That would get you in to see the visitor's BP. The gates opened at 5:30 last night. BP was scuttled because of the tarp being on the field.
  9. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) BTW...who else will be there tonight besides me? Weather permitting, I'm there tonight as well.
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 04:47 AM) Dennis DeYoung and the Panozzo brothers from Styx at the Arena Bowl on 103rd & Cicero in Oak Lawn back when Styx was still on the the Wooden Nickel label. They hadn't hit it big nationally at that time, but "Lady" was a local hit and I had seen Styx perform a few times. I also met Mark Farner from Grand Funk Railroad in a bar he was playing at in Paducah KY after GFR ended. And Hank Williams, Jr. fwiw. Styx played my sister's high school homecoming back when they were just starting out. The only famous musicians I've ever met are Pat DiNizio and Dennis Diken of The Smithereens. Nice enough guys, kinda quiet though.
  11. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) 10-0 Detroit...Milwaukee..quality team. Get used to it, it's probably going to be like this all year.
  12. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) So is Mulder hurt? Probably, he took quite a beating tonight.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) ...that's cuz Jack Black is NOT funny, in anything. I just realized that I don't find Jack Black, Lewis Black or Michael Ian Black funny at all. But I do enjoy the music of Frank Black, so there's that at least.....
  14. What a gorgeous f***ing inning this is. Wow.
  15. I'm glad you said "second favorite" because no one will ever dethrone the Brazilian women's soccer team.
  16. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) Oh, you were THAT kid. Yep, and now I'm dreading the fact that MY kid is 100% certain to be "that kid". You really do reap what you sow, unfortunately.....
  17. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Wow I'm going to see The Who this weekend. I can't believe it! It has all worked out perfectly. My 14 year old daughter has been giving me major grief of late because I won't let her go to gigs at night, recent requests have included Ramstein and Silverstein so any of you who are up on your Emo will understand where I'm coming from. Well I saw an advert for a festival containing a number of her favourites including the Zutons, The Flaming Lips and The Super Furry Animals, Headlined by The Who. Job done, she can get lost all day with her mates and I can mix with mine, only a mobile phone call away. Best thing is the festivals only 10 minutes from my house. Peace has been restored to the Deploderer house. Well, to be fair, even if she went to see Rammstein or Silverstein (or Einstein or Frankenstein or Springstein) , she'd still be only a mobile phone call away....the call would just come from a further distance.
  18. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) at least you're consistent It may be inconsistent, but he's right on the money. Any non-AL Central team > any AL Central team except and ONLY except when the non-AL Central team is in a Wild Card hunt with the Sox. ...which could happen if those goddamn Tiggers don't fade away already...
  19. Nice, I'm one step closer to my goal of being the only non-mod or admin member of Soxtalk. Congrats, Balta, now GET TO WORK!!!!
  20. Leave him doing what he's doing. Sometimes removing someone from their comfort zone minimizes their effectiveness, or at the very least causes a learning/adjustment period where the player is less successful. B-Mac in the pen and Iguchi in the 6 or 7 spot come to mind.
  21. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) That might be, it does seem to be a very "hip" word to use, however, I do think 5 tool can also be interchanged with "game-changing" ability ............. Yeah, it seems to be the easy tag to stick on a "can't-miss" prospect. Much easier to say 5-tools than to describe what the kid does well.
  22. I think the "5-tool" thing is over-rated. Give me a ballplayer with good skills and above-average baseball instincts. Obviously, tools are important to a degree, but most players don't have "5 tools" and you see a lot of hyped 5-tool guys who never pan out. If anything, the 5-tool tag is extra pressure for a kid to try to live up to.
