  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) Kid are you the one that works in PR? We had a thread like this over the winter didn't we? Can we get the search fixed...??? I don't even think Kid has BEEN to Puerto Rico.... But I know for a fact that he doesn't work in public relations, either. However, he IS a Noted Glam Scholar (all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed) and has about a billion cool stories to tell. He's gonna make a HELLUVA grampa someday. "Grampa, who's Stiv Bators???"
  2. I'll always appreciate the bridge Dustin provided between Shingo and Jenks. Great work in 2005, Hermie!!
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:59 AM) He's only stolen like 3 bases this month, 0 in the last week. There's the concern I have with Scott. When he's not stealing bases, or at least distracting the opposing pitchers on the bases, it changes the way the Sox have to approach offense. It makes them more like the 2002-4 Sox, reliant on the bomb. I expect fair-to-subpar defense from Podsednik, so I'm not going to go apes*** when I see it.

    Lucky Louie

Do you mean an HBO show, or is Shawn Michaels a star on "Lucky Louie"? And no, I haven't seen the show - I got bored of HBO and cancelled it.
  5. YEAH! He's getting paid a LOT of money - how dare he be HUMAN and not make every single play we want him to??? I sure am glad I've never made any mistakes in my life, otherwise I might not have this moral high ground to stand upon and judge others!
  6. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 01:11 AM) Not over-emoting, but emoting. You can hear the emotion in a lot of the lyrics should be an 8, 9 or 10 but its stuck at a 2 or 3. Maybe I'm strange, but for me it all depends on the artist. A lot of bands I really like have singers who sounded "flat" or unemotional. Psychedelic Furs, Naked Raygun and even Johnny Cash come to mind right away. But not having heard the entire disc, I will take your word that Snow Patrol is missing that element. I still love "Hands Open", and I'm still not buying the CD.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) It is a black and white cats, and the angle with its ass in front of my face is what bothers me!@ Sorry, man, if it was a blue cat I could make it green, and if it was pointing toward the scoreboard I could angle it towards home plate. That's all I can do for ya - the black and white cat/ass-in-face situation is out of my control.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) Is that what they are paying people to go? Hmmm still not enough.
  9. I love the cheddarwurst, but the stand near my section doesn't put onions on the grill. And I too am a Ketchup Heathen, but I won't put any on the cheddarwurst. The cheddarwurst stands alone!!!
  10. My take, FWIW: Texas is tough, although I like the Sox' chances against Texas pitching. Both Cincy and St. Lou seem pretty beatable right now. Houston is picking it up a bit right now, and might get up for a "rematch" against the World Champs. I think the Sox will be all right.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) Can you do something about my cat that won't leave me alone during the game? Is it a green cat? At what angle does it bother you?
  12. This is such a tired discussion. If your neck can't take a few hours of turning slightly once in a while (if you want to, you do get to turn you head away from the plate between pitches, to view the scoreboard, vendors, others around you, and when the ball is hit into the field of play), then you should probably watch at home, where you can angle your chair to view your TV perfectly. And your chair at home can be green if you want, too...

  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) Forgive my dark clouds here, but I have a feeling that many of those things don't happen nearly as often as they lead people to believe. I am sure injuries occur, but I am also sure that many of the injuries seen on TV are no more real than the rest of what goes on. You can definitely tell which injuries are real and which are staged by the reaction of the opponent, referee, camera crew and announcers. When an injury is staged, the announcer will usually hype it up and the camera zooms in for pained reaction shots. The ref will step in and ask the "injured" wrestler if he can continue and the opponent will either gloat to the crowd or move in for more "damage". When it's real, there is usually confusion on the part of the cameramen and announcers, followed by either long camera shots or commercials. The ref looks to the back (where Vince or his TNA counterpart) control the backstage area for help, or calls the ringside doctor into the ring. The opponent stops what he's doing and is usually unsure how to continue. I'm sure there have been some "fake real" injuries (where the participants mimic the common response to real injuries) but you can tell the difference, because wrestlers aren't good actors (see the entire film history of Hulk Hogan as proof of this fact).
  15. Gordie Howe was a badass motherf***er. His toughness is underappreciated because of his scoring. He didn't fight much because no one wanted to fight him. They knew about him and showed the respect. Once in a while a rookie like Keith Magnuson would man up and test Howe, and get dismantled.
  16. I think they're both going to air, but I will avoid the Eastern Seaboard Propaganda Network for all I'm worth. ...actually, I have a softball game tonight, so I'll miss most or all of the game anyway...
  17. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) I know and that is the most frustrating part. This is another item in a long list of why I miss my father-in-law so much. He would crack me up and tell me to just let it go as no good can come of it and then let Brian and myself vent to him and we would all end up laughing and feeling better within a few minutes. Father's Day will be tough this year (it looks like it will be Brian's first visit to his dad's gravesite too). Oh s***, wish Brian luck for me. I don't care how bad-ass anyone is, the first visit to a parent's gravesite is HARD. I have only managed about 10 visits to my dad's gravesite since he died in 1980. I just think about going there and it starts to hit me. I prefer to think about the good times we had, rather than staring at his name on a plaque on the ground.
  18. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) [vent] I will never understand why my mother-in-law thinks she can talk s*** about Brian to me and think I will just smile and agree. I am so close to telling what I really think, that it isn't even funny. [/vent] Just don't pretend that speaking your mind will change anything about her, Queen. Telling her what you think will make you feel better, but it won't improve anything. I'm not saying you SHOULDN'T tell her what you think, but just understand what will result from it. I'm sure you already know this, though. I feel EXTREMELY lucky that both of our Moms stay out of our business and get along well with us and each other. It's a blessing, to be sure.
  19. QUOTE(Beauty35thStreet @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) What's wrong with Hangar's conspiracy theory? I tend to agree with him. I think what he says is a lot more interesting than what the great majority of soxtalk posters post That's the "beauty" of everyone having their own opinion. Give it a few thousand more views, and watch every thread get twisted into a media conspiracy, and see if it's still interesting. For me, at least, it's like shouting every morning "HEY, CHECK IT OUT, THE SUN CAME OUT!!!!"
  20. Dick, all we can do as Sox fans until the climate changes is fill USCF, watch the games to lift the ratings, buy the gear (more World Series gear, hopefully ) and patronize sponsors of White Sox baseball. The tide IS turning, albeit slowly. The White Sox's attention to families and children is now and will continue to gain new fans and young fans. As the Cub demographic grows older and the new Sox fans become the ones with expendable income, you'll see the shift exposed more in the media. Harping on about it ad infinitum does very little, IMO. Also, I have no problem seeing 2 positive Sox stories and 5 negative Cub stories. That's another "statistic" Hangar ignores - how many of the Cub articles would actually sway a fan to root for the Cubs? If I read yet another Kerry Wood DL story and another story detailing the mysterious litany of Mark Prior ailments, I am NOT thinking, "OOOOOH, I GOTTA go see Carlos Marmol pitch on Monday!!!!" As long as JR and KW stay the course, I see good things in the Sox's future, and the media will not be able to ignore it.
  21. Of course, Hangar will tell you that Google only catalogues negative Sox references....
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) I personally don't think his on field celebration was much. A lot of players do that thing when the cross home plate. He pointed at someone, but that easily could have been a friend or family member. I didn't see what he did in the dugout, but I have no problem with players celebrating in the dugout. White Sox players celebrate in the dugout. Fans asked them to come out and tip their caps. I think Farmio made a bigger deal out of this than what it was. I dunno, there was a LOT of Victor Martinez self-love going on in that dugout. I would suspect that it got pointed out on the Sox bench later, but I don't think it was the inspiration for the comeback. I think the inspiration for the comeback was the plate full of meatballs Fat Bob lobbed at the plate in the bottom of the 11th.
  23. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) I How the hell is he still healthy? That's all I wanna know. I had him done for the year, done for his career by May before the season, and he just keeps ticking along. I think we ask Sox fans all hope for 500 to come sometime next year. I'm glad he's still able to suit up for the A's, but he looks to be in obvious pain when he runs. That foot is still going to cost him some games, I think. I really hope he gets to 500 homers.
  24. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Luh Ame, Lame. I liked Hands Open enough to buy the album, but the song really bothers me now as does the rest of the album. The lyrics give the opportunity to convey a s*** ton of emotion, but everything is so controlled. The music is pretty tight, but this would be a better album if it wasn't so polished and the singer let loose. I need to hear his voice crack when he sings that his hands are open... He oughta be giving it everything. On the album it sounds like he can't be bothered to. Thanks for the heads-up, Rex. I think I'll avoid the disc, then. But the singer not letting loose doesn't bother me so much. If I want to hear bloated over-emoting, I'll listen to U2.
  25. Oh yeah??? Well, I'm tired of HIM, TOO!!! But seriously, wasn't this the guy who basically admitted that he's lost the confidence to pitch inside on hitters? If he himself says he's not doing the same things he did last year. why can't anyone else say the same thing? A few quality starts in a row would go a long way to quieting the critics, Jon.
