While I believe Maddux was a great pitcher and is still a very good one, he got a LOT of favors from home-plate umpires over the years. Never saw him complain that a called strike was actually 3 inches outside, so he really shouldn't complain now. I think Dan Plesac nailed it when he mentioned that Maddux losing a couple MPH off his fastball has lessened the difference between his fastball and his change, so if his location and movement aren't perfect he's very hittable.
