QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) It was game 6. Which means it was NO kid's dream, cuz no kid would dream of a Game 6-winning HR. So Carter's HR is useless.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) I think you mean best band of the late 80's. 'Appetite' came out in '87 and it was all down hill from there for them. 'Bleach' by Nirvana came out in '89 and thank God that was the beginning of the end for hair bands. Nirvana ( and I liked them A LOT ) get too much credit for the death of "hair metal". The thing is, hair metal was killed by the recording industry, the same way the industry kills every other musical trend. By signing every single hair band out there, no matter how terrible, they oversaturated the market and made everyone sick of the genre. (Let the record show, however, that I personally was never a fan of the "lighter" metal. While others were going to Bon Jovi and Poison shows, I was seeing Testament, Metallica and bands of that ilk.) Nirvana just happened to have the first really catchy song of the next trend. When Nevermind first came out, every metal and punk fan that I knew had the album and loved it. It's only in hindsight that this hatred gets put on Cobain by metalheads. and I must repeat, big hair or not, GnR was NOT a hair-metal band. Not in any way, shape or form.

I think the lesson here is: Everyone looks stupid when they're young. HEAR THAT, young posters????

Short answer = f*** the (female) friend til she shuts up. Or is it green? ....it IS, in fact, meant to be green....

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) I might be the only person out there that really doesn't care a whole hell of a lot about the announcers of a television broadcast and can tolerate almost anyone when it comes to a radio broadcast. During a baseball game usually I'm busy discussing the game with those around me and am not relying on the announcers to entertain me. At times I can go almost an entire game without really hearing anything that an announcer says that is not standard play by play. So YOU'RE that f***er who never shuts up!!!

Game Thread-White Sox vs. Angels(Fri., April 28)
The Critic replied to kman's topic in 2006 Season in Review
It could be a result of throwing a lot of innings over the years, but to drop that much velocity this suddenly makes me wonder if there's more to it than that. -

Freddy's bringin' the heat tonight, huh? Mid-80s on the gun. Ugh. Vlad took that slow-pitch softball pitch and crushed it. -
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) I never wore "spandex". I wore some stretch jeans (still have them actually), but they just looked like black jeans. Hell, those are still worn by many, and I would still wear them if I wasn't forced to change my looks...thanks balding head. Damn, you're a pain in the ass today. Subconsciously trying to get you slightly pissed at me so you're not mad if I no-show tomorrow, I'm guessin'.... And I'm sure you meant to have SOME green in there....maybe a light avocado green....or a faded pine.....
-
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) Oh I agree 100%, I'd go see them again, but for my own reasons. Another chance to break out the old spandex??? I know that would be Kid's reason..... :finger

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) I saw a cover band called 'Hairbanger's Ball' a few summers ago at some street fest. They went through all the hair band hits. We laughed our asses off the entire time at not only the band, but at the people really, really getting into it. That band does BIG business. It's cheesy as hell, but people seem to want to hear that stuff. I'm not one of those people, but whatever, good luck to 'em.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) Listening to Luka Bloom's Riverside right now. Another album I had forgotten how brilliant it is. Perfect balance of Celtic and just killer acoustic work. He's also got a great voice that hits perfect emotion on pretty much every track. Grabbing myself some Bothy Band now also. I'm feeling another Celtic kick coming on. Gotta go grab me acoustic and tear it up! Also just found a cool band called Hillbilly Moon Explosion! Great stuff! Hey, any of you kids ever read my blog? I'm especially keen on todays entry which takes a bit to push some Professor Longhair on the masses. I need the exposure for this stuff, so if you have a minute, give it a read! Thanks... Shameless blog whore....even 2k5 doesn't work that hard at it....

I also dislike the Red Cubs, but I don't like that the Injuns are whippin' them. Can't they BOTH lose???

Speculation, while fun, is a pretty futile thing. How would Barry and Frank gotten along? Would Barry have left the Sox like, as mentioned, he left Pittsburgh? I'm glad he was never here, though - I've never liked the guy one bit.

I don't know what the BBB will do to follow up your complaint, but I thought the complaint itself was excellent. Nicely worded, specific examples of recurring problems ( exact dates would have been helpful, I'm sure, but I'm not sure if they're necessary ), not an out-of-control rant. This kind of complaint should be much more effective than a more emotionally charged one.

QUOTE(Cali @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 02:48 AM) I can't believe this thread is still going after almost 2 years.... Anyway I've been listening to a lot of Alkaline Trio, and the Head Automatica "Pop Rocks" EP (Can't wait for "Popaganda" to come out) I just dumped all my Alk3 discs onto the computer and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy them. "Maybe I'll Catch Fire" is one SOLID disc - I like every song on that record! All three shows at the Metro next week are sold out.

I enjoy making fun of the dumb things the Cubs do, and I LOVE giving the Cub fans in my life some good-natured taunting ( a certain trophy makes this MUCH easier than it had been before ), but I don't hate the Cubs or even MOST of their fans. I THOUGHT I hated their fans until I noticed that a lot of ANY team's fans do the same annoying s*** that the stereotypical "Cubbie fans" do. SOME White Sox fans do the exact same s***......GASP!!!! Talking incessantly on cellphones, waving at the camera like a f***head WHILE talking to some equally retarded friend/family member at home ("THEY'RE SHOWING YOU NOW!!! AND NOW!!!! AND NOW!!!!" ), cussing like maniacs around little kids and then getting angry at the kids' parents for asking them to tone it down, fighting in the bleachers, hitting on or verbally taunting women, getting blind-drunk and ignoring the game - I've seen ALL of that s*** on a regular basis at USCF, and NOT just this season. It happens everywhere, at any sporting event of any team in any sport.....because some people are simply s***heads. My wife is a Cub fan, my best friend/favorite cousin is a Cub fan, and some of the most knowledgable baseball fans I know are Cub fans. They do not exhibit the f***headed behavior listed above. They just enjoy baseball and choose to cheer for the Cubs ( or were born into Cub-fan families ). It's just entertainment when you really think about it. I don't really care who cheers for whom....of course, I like the Packers AND the Red Wings, so OF COURSE I'd feel this way, right?

If the hippies got dumb-looking trendy haircuts, that could be Leroy Settle's crew.

Anything the Sox get out of Hermanson at all this year will be a bonus.

Random (but interesting) White Sox Fact

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) Of course. Guess which game I was at? Coincidence??? That was actually the only game I've been to so far this year, too. -
QUOTE(BlizzardOfOzzie @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) Okay - so it was the identical spelling except the first frickin' letter that threw me off. Alright, thanks for clearing up that not-so-important tidbit of information! A couple more tidbits for you: That's not Hulk Hogan pitching middle relief, and it's not a loaf of Rye bread in right field. You're welcome.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:02 AM) I don't think so, but I could be wrong. I think they didn't sell the naming rights because of the flack they would have gotten for taking the "soldier" name off the stadum. Direspecting the soldiers aftall. Soldier Field at Haliburton Yards?? -

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 07:43 AM) Sorry kiddo, but make up wearing fake bake 17 year olds with bubble gum machine earrings and extra long tube socks in thier panties do nothing for me. Why you gotta playa hate??? If done right, this kid has potential to be my favorite Soxtalk "personality", but I can easily see it go wrong quickly, too. -

Official NHL Playoffs Thread
The Critic replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
While I'm rooting for the Red Wings, I wouldn't be surprised if Edmonton wins this series. Detroit looks SLOOOOOW compared to the Oilers, and if not for a break or two Edmonton could easily be up 2 games to zip right now. The Wings are going to need Legace to be huge in Edmonton. -
Nahh, if I want to spend 63 bucks (plus tax and price of the papers) on a souvenir, I'll get something that looks better than that.
