let's talk about this horrid radio tandem
The Critic replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'll say that while Singleton may very well become a decent radio guy someday, today's not that day, and that day won't come soon. He is quite brutal right now. Stumbles on his words A LOT, tries to stretch a point and winds up confusing himself, and is particularly awful when allowed to do PBP. He'll probably grow into a perfectly fine color analyst given the time to hone the craft, but he really should have been assigned to a minor-league team to do his apprenticeship. -
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Well, if you found some remains (scale chunks) then it makes more sense that she could have been killed and then pulled apart. Maybe some of her ended up in the filter and some in a betta's belly. It's an impossibility, however that the jaw morphology of a betta won't accomodate eating a goldfish. In the wild, B. splendens feeds on zooplankton mosquito larvae and the like - they are not piscivores. Well, then maybe the betta sold the goldfish on eBay.... Whatever happened, it's just REAL weird - I never had a fish disappear overnight like that! If I ever find any remains, I'll post a followup.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) No way, Critic. A betta CAN'T eat a goldfish unless it a fry. Not possible. It could harass and beat it to death, but not eat it. If you didn't have a lid on that bowl, then Goldy jumped (yes, she could have been spooked by Ruby and that made her jump). She may have flopped around and under a table or something, but I'm pretty sure you're gonna find a dried up ex goldfish lying on the floor in the next week or so. Full steel mesh lid across the entire top of the tank. I scoured the gravel, looked in the pump intake, looked at every square inch of the tank. There would be no place to go for Goldy if she got out of the tank anyway - it's on a countertop and there are no gaps or cracks or anything. We've looked all over the floor a bunch of times. There were fairly large chunks of scales on the gravel, which Jack Ruby was picking at in the morning. And I'm certain they were scales - they looked nothing like the fish food, which we put in the tank 12 hours previously. I have no other possible explanation for Goldy's complete disappearance. I hope you're right, because that would make more sense than Jack Ruby eating her, but I see no remains of any kind.

Sit down, kids - I have a NEW fish story to share with you!!!! So we went to the pet store to get a replacement for Fishy, the dead betta. So we get a nice reddish betta, and we're asking the TRAINEE at the pet store what fish, if any, can live with a betta........ ( can ya feel what's comin'? ) ......so the TRAINEE tells us that bettas get along with Goldfish pretty well..... ( how 'bout now? any guesses what's comin' yet??? ) so we buy Ruby ( the red betta ) and Goldy ( the goldfish ) and we put them in the same tank..... ( oh, I KNOW you can tell what's about to happen ) ....we go to sleep, there are two fish in the tank, swimming around, looking to all the world to be the BEST of friends.... ....we wake up.....there is ONE fish in the tank. Ruby has EATEN Goldy. So now we have to explain the damn FOOD CHAIN to my daughter!!! She took it pretty well, actually - we're moving (Jack) Ruby, the Goldfish Murderer, to the old small tank and getting her two goldfish for the bigger tank. And I'm putting the tanks RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER so that murderous betta can LOOK at the two goldfish every day and salivate!!!! Never trust a trainee, is the moral of this story.....

Hey, did anyone ever buy anything from the Soxtalk store on cafepress? Or was that like Core of the Core, where people talk about buying a ticket and no one actually does?

Oh MAN, what a festival of self-love THIS show is. If Bonds did this show to try to "humanize" himself to non-fans.....it's not working. Arrogance is basically a reflex for him, an instinct. I realize that many great players have a certain level of arrogance, but this guy is SO over-the-top. ...I gotta say, though, that I'll be watching this show every week. And I'll wonder why I watch it every week. But I'll keep watching.

I'm about 106% certain that Anderson would have caught the ball that went for a double off of Logan. I thought he did quite well today. Unlike Freddy.

QUOTE(G&T @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) I really missed him last night when I was listening to the game trying to fall asleep. The other guys in the booth aren't real good, IMO. Rooney's used to working with subpar boothmates.

Wrigley sells out bleacher naming rights

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 09:09 AM) I love what the money from US Cellular allowed them to do to the ballpark. That was one 'sellout' that was worth it. As an added bonus, it eliminated the name of a skinflint that sent the franchise into an 88 year funk. Personally, I liked it best been old Comisky was called 'White Sox Park'. I don't really care either way about Comiskey's name being off the park (although I understand your point and I know a lot of people share the opinion), but I agree that the US Cellular money corrected all the mistakes that were made when the park was built. The awful roof, the tragic color scheme, the dreaded blue seats....all have been addressed with US Cellular cash. Add to that the Fundamentals and Fan Deck and it was a very effective "sellout" indeed. The "Bud Light Bleachers" is nothing but a cash grab, and that's what makes me dislike it. -
So we've forgiven him for being a Cub fan, then?

I wonder if Mysterio's gonna wear a kid-sized replica belt, cuz that old wCw belt is gonna swallow him up! It's gonna be mask, belt, feet.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) Who said kayfabe was dead? The 7,436 books written by wrestlers over the past few years.

I still believe the WWE guys were "protecting" the business, but if in fact they now hide the results of their matches from the wrestlers, it would help to explain why the product has gone to s*** in the past few years.

Working. Dammit.

The phrase "through the ages" made me laugh. Ahhhh, I remember when Soxtalk was etched on a wall, and posters would walk up to the wall and etch their messages into it. Of course, ss2k5bc had the most etchings on the wall. "Mike, don't you have dinner to hunt for your family? Why are you always at the wall??"

In fact, the guys not only know the finish to the match days in advance, they also know who their next feud will be against, and if the next opponent will have any hand in the match. While they don't rehearse their matches per se, they often get together pre-match to talk about "spots" ( a spot is a short series of moves ) and how the spots will line up to make a match as interesting as it can be.

QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) yup there will be alot of "sick" days for me in the future I schedule a pretty large amount of my vacation days around baseball. 5 vacation days dedicated to baseball games so far this summer. Can't beat it!

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) It was alot worse outside for Game 2, and everything seemed to work out fine......... True, but I wonder if MLB will be as patient with game 1 of 162 as they were with the World Series? I know the other side of that debate (more on the line in the WS), but I'm just curious how long they'll wait with an off-day tomorrow (not to mention that Monday was the original date for the opener)? My guess is it'll be played.

So, yeah, it's raining right now. Decent rain, harder than a drizzle but not a storm by any means. Hope it blows through before people get out to the park.
