I think that's the first thing they teach in Baseball Journalism 101: "Whenever you do a story about a free agent, say that the Yankees are going to make a strong push for him. You will never appear to be wrong, or to NOT know what you're talking about."

I wouldn't throw Penny - he sucks on the road. Which makes me question why the Fish didn't throw Redman in Game 2 at Chicago, and throw Penny at home in Game 3 where he'd have a better chance to be successful. That would have put Penny in position to throw a Game 7, and if you can't get up for Game 7 of the NLCS, no matter where it's played, then you should reconsider your competitiveness.

I'm not talking about the runs he gave up. I'm saying that he seemed to be throwing a flat fastball. The Marlins didn't get the big hit, but it didn't seem to have the movement it has had. He was in trouble more than I've seen him this year, but they just couldn't get the big hit. Credit Prior for that, but the relatively straight FB gives me reason to think (hope?) that he's getting a bit of dead arm, and that it shows on Tuesday.

If they can get past Jesus ( and I really think he looked more hittable last time out ), I can ABSOLUTELY see Kid BB grabbing the throat in game 7. Do I think it'll happen? Not really. Is the thought laughable? Not at all. Remember, the Fish play smallball, which is MUCH more reliable than the bangers. ( Note to KW on that comment, BTW... ) If it did happen, this would make the 84 chokejob look TAME by comparison! GO FISH!!!!!! One game at a time, Marlins!!!

They're going to sign as many as their budget will allow, obviously, but they WILL lose players. They simply will not spend the money necessary to re-sign all of them. Koskie is a solid sign - quality 3B are hard to find. I'd love for the Sox to grab Hawkins or Guardado - either one could close when Gordon leaves. I'd prefer to get Hawkins for the left-right attack with Marte.

I'll say it again - just ignore it. Don't watch. Impose a media blackout. It's GREAT. When my Cub Cult friends try to engage in CubTalk, I just hit them with the fact that I've only watched about 6 innings TOTAL of their playoff run and they don't know what to say. I tell them "My team's season is over and I don't care about yours". There IS no reply for that. My boss said, "You're missing out on history". I told him that if you don't care about it, you don't miss it. The other comment that kills conversations - "That must be very exciting for you". I went grocery shopping and watched Comedy Central ( the Man Show is WAY meaner and dumber with the new hosts, by the way ). I didn't even hear the final score of the game until morning. It's beautiful. I would think that sCrub fans would want to lose in the WS - if they win, they'll have to take down that "Tribute To Failure" sign across the street from Chewing Gum Park.

Well, it must be frustrating to watch stupid athletes fail when he had everything figured out for them!!!

Or the return of Ribbie and Roobarb!!! nnnnNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo........

Well, it won't be Curtis Joseph - there's no WAY the Wings would deal with the Avalanche! The Avs would have to arrange a split-level trade with a third team to try and trick Detroit into dealing CuJo to the third team, then Colorado would acquire him from them. What other championship-calibre goalie is available, in your view?

I think that the things that are better are MUCH better, and the things that are worse are MUCH worse. For example, while you don't hear about Russia dropping an A bomb anymore, you now hear about countless countries attempting to develop or in fact developing nuclear weaponry. We seem to have many more enemies than in the past, when it was a focus on the USSR or Cuba or Japan. Now it seems there is another wildcat rebel group threatening our destruction every week or two. A lighter example: cellphones. They're a GREAT innovation for emergency purposes, but I think the damn things CAUSE more emergency situations by distracting people in everything they do. They walk distracted, they drive distracted, some people NEVER seem to get off those f***ing phones. There are WAY too many situations to be able to address them all, but I think that the world is far more unstable than it's ever been. ( Or at least that's how things are reported, anyway - I don't dig as deep as oh, let's say...APU does, so my knowledge base is not as full as others' may be. ) It gets frustrating at times, because there seem to be more questions than answers, and the answers seem to only pose more questions. You hope for the inherent good within people to come through, but I'm not so sure of it anymore.

Evander Holyfield vs. James Toney
The Critic replied to The Bones's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Holyfield was a shell of his former self in that fight. If you're interested, you should dig around for a few of his older fights. There was a time when he used to be virtually unbeatable. You could pound on him and pound on him, and he'd never fall. Unfortunately, he's now paying the price, since he can barely speak anymore. -
Pittsburgh really SHOULD be contracted. For them to give away every decent player they have because they're too poor to compete, then they should be put out of their misery. I don't really blame them for making the sCrubs better though, because I wasn't all that impressed with the guys they got. Lofton has never had much post-season success before, Ramirez was a butcher at 3B and Simon was a so-so player. Just happened to catch lightning in a bottle. I'm still not convinced that the sCrubs can beat NY - I think they could beat Boston. We'll see...unless FLA can pull off a miracle.

If you were brain-dead, you could celebrate THIS YEAR! ...if ya know what I'm sayin...

Cubs vs. anyone = unwatchable. That's why I haven't been watching. All I see or hear is what I cannot avoid through the overblown media. The thing that makes me laugh the most is the idea that all the people who cry about wanting to see a Cubs WS appearance "before I die" will now be able to drop dead. Kidding....sort of.... The worst thing about a Cubs WS appearance is the fear that this team will become the next 85 Bears. We'll have to put up with Sofa's ass butchering the English language forever, adding imaginary stats to his record. "AY heet sebunteem hon ron een dot Whirl Seeree..."

and it's also an attempt to swing the Pity Pendulum over to himself. "I'm getting help, doesn't that count for SOMETHING???"
-
Oh NOOOOOO!!!!! PLEASE don't re-open that wound!!!! They really should re-think that policy, though - it is kind of s***ty to make the lower level much cooler and then refuse the upper deck people admittance, as if they're watching the game in another park. I think that rule will be erased before too long, IF people write or email to them to request it. People need to direct the complaint directly to the Sox, instead of starting threads about it here. ( that was NOT directed at you, wsf56789, there were multiple polls/threads during the season that got WAY too whiny and pissy about the debate )

The Chicagoland area has a LARGE Eastern European and Hispanic community, and soccer is NUMBER ONE for a lot of people here. I'm not surprised that soccer draws well around here, and it's actually kind of unfair to compare attendance from different sports. Is it far to complain that the Bears draw 50,000+ every home game and the Sox don't? No. If there were two soccer teams in town ( which there once were ), or two NFL teams ( which there once were ), the comparisons could be more valid, but the Sox are in the position of being second in a two-team town. That's not going to change anytime soon, so there's no point in crying about it. I prefer to cry about the fact that the Cubs were not ALWAYS number one, and the Sox ownership is not aggressive enough in trying to close the gap. For every good move the Sox make, they make 2 or 3 bonehead moves.

If they could build a cool, old-fashioned looking HR porch, along with the Bullpen Bar area and the Fan Deck, USCF could become the Place To Be in a few years...assuming two things, of course: 1. Cellville begins to take shape, with some new/upscale dining and drinking establishments opening in the area, and 2. The Sox decide to NOT go cheap and actually try to make more acquisitions to improve the ballclub. ( This SHOULD be #1, but as the sCrUBS have historically proven - this year's accidental success notwithstanding - that you can throw ANYONE on the field if the park and neighborhood are considered "cool" ) It CAN happen....but I really doubt that it will...the "casual Chicago sports fan" ( which really means "borderline retard" ) will NEVER give USCF a second chance, assuming they've ever given the park a first chance. People believe whatever they're told, and it's hard to change peoples' minds.
-
Yeah, but that's like saying that the cross-eyed chick looks better than the one with the hump! Neither is good, one might be less bad.
-
I really liked what they did last year. If they can successfully improve the upper deck, which is the only legit argument against the place, then USCF becomes one of the better places to see a game in ALL of MLB. ...NEVER thought I'd say THAT.....
-
No likey! Very plain, kinda drab, weird lettering and that awful new logo. You'd think that you could do a pretty cool logo for the Rockets, but so far I haven't liked any of their uniforms.

My giving him credit depends on two things: 1. Did he ever mention his other two rehab attempts to his audience? ( I don't listen to him if I can help it, so I don't really know if he did or not. ) 2. He didn't seem so forthcoming until AFTER the report of his housekeeper getting him MASSIVE amounts of pills got out through the media. Did he plan to tell his audience about the rehab stint all along, or did the story give him the little nudge he needed? By the way, I think the only reason the story was released was because the media is "desirous to see a white Conservative talk show host go to rehab"...

NOT a good start. Avalanche up 2-zip 8 minutes into the 1st period. Leighton in the nets for the Hawks ( for now ).

You'd think that the man with ALL the answers would know that Drugs Are Bad, MMMMKAY?? Especially after two attempts to kick the s***. I've always found that type of know-it-all radio cheap and stupid. Whether it's him, Jim Rome, or any other f***face who portrays himself as somehow better or smarter than everyone else, it's always kinda fun to watch them fall.

It's harder for some owners than others....just ask Tightwad Bill Worst!!!
