Pedro Grifol, Charlie Montoyo, Eddie Rodriguez, & Mike Tosar Fired (Grady Sizemore interim manager)
... the guy said he didn't like the team he acquired, made a ton of changes and then fielded the worst team in mlb history. How is that a wash?

Zero BA T100 prospects traded at the 2024 TDL
I'll say this though, jazz balling out in New York.

Zero BA T100 prospects traded at the 2024 TDL
Yes, I frequently draw strong conclusions based on the outcome of one trade deadline where the two best players available weren't even dealt. Not like there were stars flying from one team to the next. Also, why would teams be more willing to move top 100 prospects at years end (which just happened this past off season) but not at deadline? This means nothing more than a lot of garbage was moved around.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
As I said in my initial post, I want to keep him and still would try that at all costs. I'm just not dumb enough to think that if they don't trade him today, they're keeping him. They've announced to the world they're trading him.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
Based on what I've read about Bannister, he wouldn't even want crochet to do that. They want to keep him throwing, just not a lot and at high stress (gtg there). Slowly Deload him without ever fully stopping. That means risk of injury and/or some arm fatigue and outcome regression. He's at the top right now, there's no where else for him to go. He can sustain it and continue to build value, but reality is he's gonna be innings capped ROY so not like he's going to establish himself as a work horse.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
There's only risk in keeping him, no reward. Crochet leads MLB Pitchers in WAR. I think he's an incredible arm, and believe in everything he's doing, but it's still very possible he'll never be the best pitcher in the world for four straight months again in his life. In fact, it's more likely than not.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
If they pay, grievances have a weird way of being forgotten. I'd love to keep Garrett. I just worry if they don't trade him it becomes a off-season best offer scenario and garrett will be worth less then.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
If you're trading crochet, today is the time. Waiting until the offseason will reduce his value regardless of what some say.

Since when did the Sox have to trade him today?

Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
A white sox comp for vargas with the bat is Magglio. I'd say that might be his ceiling but we can dream on it.
-
Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
Kind of a unfair comp since Baltimore is top six in both pitching and hitting WAR. The Mariners are 22nd in offensive WAR and 2nd in pitching. Mets on the other hand are 4th in offense and 29th in pitching.

Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
Just meant defensively regarding sosa.

Kikuchi to HOU
They're get two additional lotto tickets.

Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
No, but I didn't think he was one of the few (moncada to name one) who is actually capable of playing 3rd base while being a disaster at 2nd. Maybe he'll prove wrong, but given that law said no doubt he could handle second.... He makes Sosa look like Roberto alomar.

Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
If Vargas actually rakes, and not Michael Busch raking, then this trade can't be bad imo. Sox needed to fill at least 1 of 8. If Vargas actually does that, and not as a fringe big leaguer, this is a win. I'm smart enough to know I also have no absolute idea on how good a player can or will be, or whether a guy is a complete bust or not. Will he be Brandon wood or just another star who started a little slow? So all that said, go smash some baseballs miguel and make keith law look smarter than me and all of us.

Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
No offense to keith, but he's been the high man on vargas an wrote this just last year: (had him 23rd in baseball for prospects) now he’s a plus runner underway and there’s no doubt he could stay at third or handle second. Its very clear from actual mlb play that vargas cannot play 2nd or 3rd in the bigs.

Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
The problem with this is evaluations aren't stagnant, they're an evolving thing. Of course you'd have taken vargas for fedde 6 months ago. That's probably what Getz is thinking too lol. Thing is, in 6 months fedde has proven his success in Korea could translate to the US, and vargas showed he didn't have any versatility for a team that wanted it, and then his bat didn't play.

Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
Edit. Misread. I guess he's just calling one teenager a starter.

Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
No offense, but how do you "really" like a couple guys who have barely made it out of the Dominican Rookie ball? Based on what? They're lottery tickets. Plate discipline is the one stat that isn't even predictive as you move up levels either... with Vargas? Fine, I get his discipline and pitch selection is real. These kids strength right now isn't even a projectable skill at that level. I Remember Sox legend Benyamin Bailey with those great low level, hows he doin?

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
Oh, based on how he told the story I big time disagree. Jerry probably lit him up when the crochet news broke, he went and told Jerry he talked to garrett night before and was honest and heard nothing. He blamed garett to Jerry, then went to the media to show Jerry how true it was.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
Also, don't let the Sox spin the narrative that they called him right up right away for him. As always, Sox lacked depth and had to turn to a draft pick to support the bullpen during a playoff run.
