Yes, a lot of words! Awesome summary, so much information. With Montgomery and Griffin signing today, do you have any personal regrets on Sox not taking them over Smith after seeing what they signed for? I think Smith will work out well, but just interested in your point of view since you are locked in on the inner workings. thank you.

I don't post too often , but am on here many times a day celebrating and suffering with all of you. This topic is one I have thought often to bring to the group to hear some of your 'stories" of how the Sox have effected our lives. My dad was a moderate Sox fan, but his best friend seemingly had an Encyclopedic knowledge of Sox and baseball history. He took me on as an apt pupil and I have never looked back. Going to games in the 1980s and 90s with him meant hearing tales of Minoso and Allen. He passed away in 2002, I hated that he did not live to see the World Series year as so many of our older loved ones deserved that. I went straight from being a pall bearer at his funeral to a tattoo parlor to get a Sox tattoo with his name encompassed on it. I look forward to hearing some of your Sox stories.

White Sox select Hagen Smith, 2 preps on day 1
Backwash07 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think he will be good. He seemed to have a wide range of outcomes from the experts. He at least has high upside if it all pans out. he was not talked about too much in our draft thread. Kiley Mcdaniel must have had intel late that the Sox were in on him. His write ups for some reason made me think of Dan Uggla. I looked up his reference page, we should only be so lucky apparently. 235 homers and four all star games for Uggla. -
2024 Official Draft Thread - Day 2
Backwash07 replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in FutureSox Board
First of all thanks to the die hards that have kept this thread going for the past year. It has informed and entertained me. I like many am underwhelmed with this draft and not real confident for day 3 today for any nice surprises. I have a couple takes. the Sox being so conservative over the the past few years hurts them so bad to get top possible talent. They seem to be playing checkers while other teams are playing chess with how to use their money pool. Through day 2 of the draft many will say Cle, Cin, and Pitt have had three of the better drafts. The first two got lucky with the lottery and how this draft played out, really show what an advantage that is throughout the first ten rounds not just round one. Pittsburgh though had less money to spend, less early picks, and slightly later picks and seem to have prospered. In a vacuum, Hagen Smith was a very good pick that I can get behind. However, if he is getting slot, it really hurt the rest of the draft so far. Maybe Griffen was the pick under slot even with Smith available. Then I can picture instead of Bonemer, Sloan would have been in play at 43 with the savings. then instead of the high upside Larsen who sounds to be over slot you could have picked a college pitcher like Hurd/Beem/Holman. In this somewhat realistic situation instead of Smith, Bonemer, Larson we would have received Griffen, Sloan, Hurd and probably would have been at similar money overall going into day 2. Personally by a small amount, i would have liked the second scenario. Thoughts? -
There was mention in the pregame tweets that Grant Taylor has a right lat strain. I had not seen anybody on the site discuss this hopefully minor injury. Anyone know how severe this would be for a pitcher or how long in theory it would keep him out? thanks.

Timing is everything. Do you think if the Sox receive fair trade offers for say Robert, Crochet, Fedde, Kopech, that it would be better to do it before the draft, after the draft at the trade deadline, or it really does not matter? Sox execs probably have a good idea of what they plan to do demographics wise for the draft, obviously things can change on the fly. They can control what they want slightly easier in trades. I am really not sure what makes best sense, but it would be nice build quality depth in the system. Thoughts?

After Schultz, how would you rank a rest of top 5 pitchers in our minor leagues two months into the season?
-
Did Eder pitch poorly last night or get hurt or both?
-
Robert back from paternity. Martin sent down.
-
Can’t padres just dfa him? Nats can’t want him that much.

White Sox among 'most agressive' teams in pitching market
Backwash07 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Two pitchers deals: Q And bednar, montas and Trevino, free land and bard, Hendricks and Robertson, skubal and fulmer……. Any other package starter/reliever tandems make sense? -
I am like many of you that don’t want to trade top prospects for rentals. I also think this team hasn’t played well enough to earn that trust of going all in. However a report today Oakland is willing to trade Sean Murphy. He could help us present but also for next three years. He shouldn’t be cheap prospect wise but think he could help shave down Grandals games behind the plate this year and next. Thoughts on if this makes sense and thoughts on what it’d take to acquire?

What’s the deadline date for signing players from this draft?
-
Thanks for some catcher names and info.
-
My fault.
-
Anyone have any insight on university of Texas catcher? I heard he’s great defensively. I agree with you guys a college catcher is necessary.
-
Has anything you guys seen yet made you think any differently about upcoming Sox picks tonight?

Grade Offseason Acquisitions at ASB
Backwash07 replied to JUSTgottaBELIEVE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is a fun thread at this close to halfway point. I still think two biggest errors which have been said often is picking up Kimbrel option and not at minimum giving Rodon qualifying offer. I think Rodon even stays with a decent offer. Not giving QO will look even worse tomorrow night at draft. -
We should not be playing a man short for any of these games. I think IL stint should be in the offing.

If you are above row 20 and past the dugout on first base side you’ll be in shade Majority of game. The rows in the 30s at about section 110 are almost always open. My kids are 8 and 11 now, but I did similar things as you are thinking a few years ago. Southpaw is generally up in kids area about the second or third inning. That’s generally best/only time to get a picture unless you are going early.

They took Gonzalez and basabe from us recently as well. Win some, lose some

I got into mlb draft projections much deeper when the Sox were in rebuild mode and have followed the last couple years best I can. I really appreciate so many of you in these long term draft threads giving your thoughts and opinions. Anyway with just over a month before the draft I would love to see what your fav first pick would be in each of the four demographic groups while assuming being available for Sox: 1. High school pitcher 2. High school hitter 3. College pitcher 4. College hitter

Been to three and have tickets bought for three more , but I can’t do any more other than what I’m committed already. I’ve got young kids who enjoy baseball and the white Sox thankfully, so I’m trying to teach them all the traditions while I grit my teeth half the time. I just feel like we are all being ripped off of a season. I am truly sad for all levels of short and long time season ticket holders. We all deserve better.

That makes sense. I was thinking also Miguel andujar for sheets.
