  1. Only one to blame here is Sosa himself. If a geezer like me sitting on a sofa knows the rules he has to. I’m not a fan of public humiliation but I’d have yanked him right there. Wondering if the Cubs let that drop on purpose to see if they could find a dope? But I love the way he goes back on a pop fly and the RF’s know it and defer to him. Sit him down next game.
  2. If Plesac put a sock in it once in a while he’d still be irritating. But less so.
  3. Houser throwing his nasty s%*#, offense clicking, irritating Plesac gone (not that Stone isn’t irritating). Feeling good.
  4. Damn fine post. You ought to be an in-game analyst.
  5. Cubs regulars are bad enough. Team's just fine though. They have captured my interest. Plesac's irritating and talks much too much. Stay away.
  6. Santiago’s was eventually converted to a changeup. But he was the last IIRC. Two seamer has a similar break.
  7. Which manager (Red Sox) would change his rotation if a curve baller was set for the day certain umpires were working home plate?
  8. Taylor will need more than that flat fastball over the long run, 100+ or not. They were all over it. Luckily he has other pitches and good ones.
  9. Got to love the nasty s%*# Houser throws. Someone will want him.
  10. Gonna be the best defense ever with no rim protector.
  11. The debate's over because I just disproved one of your key points. But I will add that he had a legit search for a new baseball GM going and called it off because he had the brilliant idea of hiring one of his "boys." I missed that first time. We agree on most of what JR is so let's be civil. But I can't blame him for his hirees' bad decisions.
  12. Who developed Jimmy? Who developed Joakim? Who developed Coby? I agree with you that he's unlikable and an easy target, but what do we know of the awful decisions that he's personally responsible for, except La Russa? And there have been enough awful drafts and trades over the years but he's not the one who made them. Can't give him all the blame for paying Zach, some of it yeah.
  13. What I saw in my morning paper was the most half-assed apology possible. Balanced but hardly fair. Figures.
  14. What's left of the Chicago Tribune is reduced to repeating stuff off the wire. Reporting? Maybe 30 years ago. And Augustine is my favorite Catholic theologian so it's a good day all around.
  15. You need to be ahead at some point to lose it.
  16. I'm the guy that keeps posting that most golf tournaments are lost, not won. Today was an exception. Woulda been right both ways if Justin had come through.
  17. Coach D could have had someone more athletic than Vuc in there for defense on that next-to-last play. Like a shot blocker.
  18. It's not the nuts and bolts that make someone a good writer. It's the way you phrase things. Like you did above. Incidentally, could've, etc. is a contraction of could have, not could of. But that's nuts and bolts, not phrasing. Good luck to you and a happy future.
  19. I'm with you on Whitlock (ugh) and most of your points. I don't do sports talk since this site poisoned my mind about it. Don't miss it a bit. Our poster? I was thinking editor at a book publisher or broadcaster. Or I just like his style.
  20. Not to get too personal, but you're a good writer. Betcha do something along that line when you're trying to make a living. Or you should. Also, I agree with almost all of what you say.
  21. There's your problem with a light bulb over its head. Too many pitches. Even Katz has a chance at fixing this.
