Next Player you think the Sox will get
Gene Honda Civic replied to Cubs Suck23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This poll is two different questions -- In the title it asks "who do you think the sox will get" then on the poll it asks "Who would like to see the Sox get" -- Those two questions have radically different answers -
Jas, it's mainly a salary dump -- They have to move either Polanco or Rollins. Rollins may have more upside, Polanco is probably the safer bet to put up solid numbers, but Polanco caries a heftier price tag $$$. Rolins would probably take more to get, in terms of players.

I was thinking of the CF -- Byrd -- I'm out of it

We have no need for him.

not a good candidate because he can only play one defensive position --- I think he's conteplating retirement after not generating as much interest as he had hoped as a FA

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Waittt, PA got banned? PA's not banned, just trying to be a martyr. I'm gonna start the manchicken contest to appease PA.

Report: Mets, Beltran finalizing deal
Gene Honda Civic replied to Scwible's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Astro fans are (rightfully) furious over this midnight decision from Boras. MLB boards are full of disgruntled messages towards Boras and New York. Another fanbase irked, another example of baseball economics gone awry. It must be frustrating to hear Beltran compliment every fascet of the Houston organization, yet let Boras knowingly prostitute him. That midnight deadline was not a measure of Boras... It's MLB rule -- as a FA who was offered arbitration, and declined, MLB rules state that both sides had to have a deal in place by last night. -
QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) I would change the order of that line-up to. 1. Harrislf 2. Crede cf 3. spods-ic dh (thomas when he gets back maybe start of year - sounds doubtful) 4. Uribe 1b 5. aj c 6. dye rf 7. Konerko ss 8. Rowand 3b 9. harris Much better Yeah that's a good one -- Any line-up that can allow Willie harris to play two positions and concieveably recieve twice as many PA's as anyone else on the team is a sure trip to the playoffs.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 12:35 AM) go for it Maggs. Let's see what kind of power numbers you put up in Comerica With one good wheel.

Othella was a beast tonight -- It's nice to see the bulls can win when Gordon doesn't have a good night -- He only played 15 minutes 7 pts

Dugoutdollars isn't wrong, and it doesn't list his 2005 salary at 6.78M -- Read the FAQ, learn how to read it -- That's his cap #

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Hey... I just got an e-mail about Sox Fest, and there's a picture of some Sox wristband they're selling. Would it be possible to for someone to purchase a couple of those for me, and for me to pay you back? I'm big on those wristband type things, and having a Sox one would be kick ass. Thanks. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...styleuschildren

Valdez remains a solid platoon option... I don't know enough about the guy, and haven't seen him play enough to have formed a solid opinion on him, but his minor league stats seem to indicate that the kid can hit. I don't have access to his minor league splits, and his major league one's lack any significance due to ridiculously small sample size, but I would expect him to be a better hitter vs. LHP than RHP. I would expect a platoon of WH/WV to put up at least a .725 OPS, which is essentially league average for a second baseman. And their defense would be much more than adequate -- I think that 2B could end up being quite a nice surprise this season.

Score just reported Sox sign AJ
Gene Honda Civic replied to 103 mph screwball's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ugh -- I just read through some of this :headshake less is more sometimes Juggs... There's no need to arbitrarily break down everyone's performance by month... Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. ------ So here's some broader numbers that help illustrate why this is a good signing. G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG 2004 162 543 76 145 28 2 14 67 37 90 .267 .316 .403 2003 162 529 58 134 30 1 11 55 26 99 .253 .292 .376 2002 162 543 65 129 22 2 13 59 46 90 .238 .301 .352 ============================================================ 3yr 486 1615 199 408 80 5 37 181 109 279 .252 .303 .377 ------------------------------------------------------------ AJ 398 1398 162 412 94 11 28 200 56 143 .295 .338 .438 The first three rows are the collective numbers of the White Sox catchers the last three seasons... Then the their 3yr total of those catchers, and finally those #'s compared to AJ's 3yr numbers Defense E PB SB CS CERA lgCERA tmERA 2001 10 4 44 21 4.50 4.53 4.51 2002 3 2 45 19 4.10 4.42 4.18 2003 6 5 46 20 4.15 4.62 4.41 2004 1 9 51 15 4.23 4.44 4.28 Finally, here are AJ's Defensive numbers for the past 4 seasons, while he was recieving significant playing time (avg. 1000 innings caught)... CERA is catchers ERA, lgCERA is stolen from BR's lgERA and is an approximation of what a league average pitcher would be expected to in each of AJ's home parks during that season. tmERA is the collective ERA for the team he caught for(non park adjusted) As you can see, AJ's CERA is better than both his team's ERA, and league average(park adjusted) CERA in every year. In short, he's a good catcher -- a good game caller. -
I haven't explored it fully, but it's essentially a replacement for your incredibly crappy MS paint program, and has a lot of features that you'll find in much more expensive software --- All for the low, low, introductory price of FREE http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/ It's a work in progress, but it's better than nothing. or Paint.

Just read on the bottom line that New Mexico BBall coach Lou "the do" Henson was hospitalized with pnemonia. I just heard him on Mac, Jurko and Harry yesterday or the day before. He sounded fine.
